Warmaster

The Elements Council is looking to hire 2-3 new Warmasters. Warmasters are the organizers of the major PvP event War (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/war/). These are the main tasks:

• Setting up rules prior to the event, and enforcing them during the event.
• Updating standings and creating threads each round.
• Providing support to the community, in the form of questions via forum or chat PM, chat discussion, or in the War threads.
• Resolving conflicts between participants, potentially ranging from desynchs to accusations of cheating, and maintaining a cool and level head in order to make decisions objectively.
• Communicating with other Warmasters in the event a ruling is needed.

Requirements:

• Full Member or above.
• Being very active on the forum in the weeks leading up to War to set up rules, and during War to ensure the event runs smoothly.
• Maturity and reliability are essential.
• Ability to communicate effectively.
• Experience with Google Docs is a huge plus, but not required.

Your application will be shared with the rest of the Council, and we will discuss the applications. Don't forget to read about what the Council looks for in an applicant (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,38397.0.html) if you haven't.

It always saddens me when I see major events staff hirings like this need extensions as it probably means no one is applying for the position.

Rather than see a great event have the potential to not be run because of no staff, I thought I'd apply even though I know I might be slightly lower on activity level than what is needed.


So for those who are interested in joining me, come drink and lets make outlandishly drunk rules for the event!  :P

I think the main issue is that most people want to play rather than host. Plus, this job is known for its drama, since you bear so much responsabilty and everyone hates you for your mistakes.

The only (main?) way I see this working is if said new WM would be so until War actually starts, but is able to make changes to market, set up the rounds and ECs, organise drafting phase, and would perhaps be able to make public decisions, but would not have access to any vaults, nor anything else as soon as war starts.

Would hopefully share the bulk of the work, but still be able to play.

Of course this can't happen for all WMs, and at some point you need to think about if it would be fair to the other WMs to do this

We need at least 1 WM that checks deck legality (and has access to all vaults), randomizes matchups and makes rulings. None of those can be done before war, vault access (other than your own) is a definitive nono for any participant. Event cards could be made before war (just gotta come up with 15 ecs and 5 super-ecs before you even start), I suppose market prizes is ok for a 'participating wm' to make so long as they have no idea in which team they end up (cant be masters), same for rule changes before the event.

Note that I havent talked to anyone about this, so 'participating wms' are not a thing yet, even though I'm the one accepting all the applications (and musing the thought). I of course want as many as possible to apply, but I think we need at least 2 wms without any conflict of interest.
