Happy 7th Birthday Elements!

On this day Elements the Game has been open to the public for 7 years!

7 is a bit of a special number for me. My little sibling is 7 years younger, but more importantly I was 7 when I got my first video game console, a Sega Mega Drive (or Genesis for you Americans). It's been a long road from Sonic & Knuckles, James Pond III and Shining in the Darkness to Elements the Game, and yet the connection is pretty much instant.

Back then I was mostly alone in my gaming world, apart from the occasional visit to my bestie's SNES and the likes of Secret of Mana, Mario Kart and Clay Fighters. Now? Nowadays gaming has become so much of a social thing that it's almost unheard of to play anything on your own. Even during a single-player romp you'll often have friends watching or playing their own game in the same room or house.

However, there's a difference between that and this community. This community is held up by having something in common, and that's a love for a well designed game that fills an otherwise empty space. It's clear to many of us that Elements is something quite irreplaceable despite and partially thanks to all its little flaws.

As usual I'll do a shameless promotion of the option to donate to both the game (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/tutorials/how-to-make-a-donation-to-elements/) and the forums (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/forum-news-and-announcements/forum-hosting-status), but we all know the real reason I post this is because I love to. and for the cake


This year we have a lot of active new members, so I'll repeat my request from last year. Plus it seems like it could be a classic. Why do YOU love Elements the Game? A reply for cake seems like a good trade to me.

Happy Birthday EtG. I love this game the most cause it's so balanced as well as complex. I've been playing Elements for 4 and a half years and I still don't know everything about the game. Also the community is one of the best I have ever been part of. Here's to 7 more  ;D

Why I love it?  The game and community satisfy so many of my desires and personal aspirations -- not that a "game is my life" but in the sense that I desire competition, improvement, strategy, fun, banter, camaraderie, worldwide contact or 'influence' from worldwide sources, contact and exposure to viewpoints that may be similar or dissimilar to my own where ideas and opinions interact most freely, etc etc.

Happy 7th Birthday Elements!

This is now my 4th Elements birthday and, although I don't play as much as I used to, I still sign in for the Oracle and False God nearly every day and I still enjoy playing and deckbuilding. The fact that we're all still playing this game after 7 years despite the drop off in development is a testament to the game and the community.

So, we reached the magical 7!

It is still amazing to see a game so active, while there haven't been any changes on the game itself for 3 years. It is clearly the community to hold this up. I want to thank the staff for keeping important stuff running, and for all members for taking their time by taking part in PvP Events, Competitions, Forum Games and friendly chatting.

So, what makes me stick to this community are all the members you can always have a good talk to, the passion of many people to come up with new ideas and the endurance to keep many events active, while still providing a few changes in them to keep the interest high.

Oh man, one of very few animated series that is actually hilarious in dubbed Swedish, the live action movies included. The Twelve Tasks of Asterix was epic, confusing and so very trippy as a kid.

Edit: Just realized I had to give a response. To be honest, ETG is the game i found years back, yet never gave a passing glance. Now it feels like home, thanks to the people that make it feel like one.

For starters, this was my first online TCG. Second, this is the only true card game that I have put so much time into to go in depth into a whole lot of things (other than just putting a bunch of random good cards into a deck). This is just a fantastic game with a fantastic community to follow it.

Well, because this is the 7th birthday, I will give 7 reasons why I love this game. I won't list using numbers or bullets, though, instead I will use the element icons which represents 7 common elements (usually I count 9, but here I remove :light and :darkness): Fire, Water, Air, Earth, Wood (represented by :life), Lightning (represented by :aether), and Metal (represented by :gravity).
 :fire - All players are encouraged to put their own ideas to cards, and if they are lucky, the cards will be released to the game.
 :water - My all-favorite element here is so versatile. It even has access to all three types of damage (Physical, Spell, and Poison).
 :air - It is free. No cards which can only be obtained by purchase.
 :earth - I like classifying things based on their elements. In fact, I was really lucky when I Googled about element and this game appeared right in the first entry. As a TCG lover, I was overjoyed at the time.
 :life - Players can discuss which cards are too strong and which cards are too weak so that the developer can buff or nerf them. It can avoid issues like BlackLuster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning in Yu-Gi-Oh! or Coral Snake, the 2nd in Animal Kaiser.
 :aether - This game introduces me to Aether and Entropy. Ever since then I didn't get confused anymore anytime someone in a science forum I join mentioned one of those two words.
 :gravity - The spins. It can give any cards, well, except Nymphs, but they can be obtained via Oracle, anyway. Brings me back memories from 11 years ago when I was still playing Yu-Gi-Oh! Duelist of the Rose on PS2. It also give cards via spins after winning.

I like EtG mostly because of the rather tiny but vibrant community and Brawl and the fact that there's a lot of stuff to do even after you've gotten tired of the game.

I love ETG first and foremost because it was the first CCG I ever learned to play at any sort of competitive level, and it taught me so many key principles.

It still has one of the greatest communities of any game I've ever been a part of, and I'm so grateful to know all of you!

(I also hope we haven't run out of cake, because cake is great!)

Well, I still love ETG since I played it a few years ago. First CCG online actually. Still play it off and on casually.  I do enjoy chatting with the community despite me being off and on. Had some good times with you all. Wish I could be more active in the community though =(.

No idea, I just do. I tried countless other CCG/TCG games and this is the only one that ever stuck, just as the "community" seems to stick to me, I actually care for this game and this place.

I love EtG because of it's magic. It's one of these games, that is designed with heart and passion and you can feel it by playing it, even after many years and without updates it's playable and enjoyable. You can also feel it by looking at it's community. It's amazing how kind and helpful you all are (yes, you too, who are reading it!). I'm not an active member of this community, but I keep playing EtG from time to time (also, I really want those Nymphs so I keep poking Oracle every day ;)) and I keep watching what's going on on the forums (so much creativity and space for it, like tournaments, card challenges, trials, war). Also, I witnessed how community (and even inactive for a loong time Zanz) reacted when servers broke down and many of us lost A LOT cards, points and electrum (and maybe most important - time that is put into collecting all this). Joint effort to make it all work somehow, by those with higher levels helping those with lower - it was really amazing and it's one of those special things that I will keep in heart for a long time. That kindness, helpfulness. It's really rare not only around on line world, but in real world too. So keep being awesome :)

I'm here, I promise! ...even if the party started and probably ended a while ago. (Also I didn't know this topic existed before today.) Happy belated birthday!
I digress; there was a question posed to all, especially the recently arrived, and I'd be remiss to not answer it. And maybe plate cake from the fridge since before today I didn't know it was located here either.

I'm drawn to EtG because it's a door and a hope for something besides the mundane. Despite not being the most consistent player, I never really leave - a certain memory of the elements remains with me since long ago when I began writing and integrated these twelve (plus a few others) into a grand tale. It wasn't actually constructed well and was never actually finished...but since then there has rarely been a story I've penned which has involved magic without some reference to the elemental set I first encountered in EtG in time far since past. It has deep roots in a desire for adventure and perhaps for magic in reality.

Further, though I tend to be highly wary of CCGs/TCGs for blatant attempts to sell a product, I have had the pleasure of respecting EtG, and by extension Zanz (despite having never met him) for having never done so. On another practical note, for an interest in game design several elements (pun intended, of course) have come from this game in respect to division and balance.

Then there's the community. Even though by many standards I'm still fairly new, I know I have friends here and that's reason enough to be grateful.

Im a newcomer to the forums, but i have been playing the game since 2012. Despite a really long hiatus (2 years or even more) without farming and only playing 1 or 2 games a week during that time, i have always loved this game due to how much you have to learn, the different card combos, the huge amount of decks you can build and, after this amout of years, i find out that there are tournaments and a lot of people playing this game.

PS: i wasnt in the forums at that moment, but im sure that the sentence "The shards have been moved to their respective elements" shook all the community.
