Happy 10th Birthday Elements!!

One full decade ago on May 10th 2009 Elements the game was created by the lead developer Zanzarino! While the game may no longer have constant updates, the community here lives on and continues to thrive with amazing people that have been brought together by this awesome game! Today marks the 10 year milestone of this game and we should all share in each others company and thank all those that have helped to create, advertise, maintain, and help this game and community grow into what it currently is.

May you continue to bring joy and happiness to our small corner of the internet, even if the community slowly disperses else where among the ashes. While speaking of the community a short shameless promotion that the forum needs donations (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/forum-news-and-announcements/forum-hosting-status) if we want to keep it running and out of debt to the admins who have started paying out of their own pockets to keep this place up and running.

The classic question that is always asked on this day is, "Why do you love elements?".
Today if you want a piece of cake I will ask instead to please share a memory about elements and why it has kept you coming back here after these many years. Whether you have been here for the full 10 years, a new member from earlier this year, or any time frame in between, everyone has a least one story to share about why they come back to this place.

Why do I love elements?

Hmm... it's a classic example of a small, indie game that managed to achieve an awesome community. That's always inspiring.
Other than that, I used to play M:tG (well, a single cheap Slivers deck, I made for fun rather than competitive - it was designed to be unpredictable, which is a big no-no for most competitive decks) and a few other collectible and non-collectible card games.
So, Elements was right up my alley in terms of being a well designed, reasonably complex CCG where I didn't have to spend real money :P

As for why I picked Time as my favorite element?
For one, I'm more into control and combo decks rather than rush. In terms of M:tG I'd be leaning towards blue/white.
Secondly, I think at the time I joined, I recently binge watched a season of Dr. Who.

As for sharing a memory...
Is this enough?

And since you're asking why I came back to this place...
Well, the answer is simple. I got an e-mail with an invitation.
Coming here is an awesome opportunity for escapists like myself to run away from the stress of daily life, responsibilities and such... now I can at least think to myself, that I'm doing something productive rather than wasting time doing my day job etc. xD

I love Elements because it's a simple way to kill time while also being fun to play, especially in tournaments. As a kid, I've always been fascinated by the idea of elemental manipulation and the versatility of one such power. This game goes perfectly well with the theme by making each of the elements versatile both by itself and in combination with other elements (to an extent).

Gravity's my favorite element because it was my starter element when I finally became active in the community. I also grew to like the way you play a Gravity deck (which isn't too different than any other deck...), as well as how sturdy the creatures were.

I found elemets quite a while ago. I had beaten Doodle God and wanted to find something similar so i googled "Elements Game" and voila here i am. When i first joined i didnt touch the forums. Just played the game, granted it was much more active and i could find a match in PvP. Computer broke while i was on a trip and forgot about it.

Fast forward about 5 years. I get a job working retail and its dead slow so i start playing on the computer. I remembered this game so I came back to it. Now that i was more mature i decided to hop in the chat room. Vindiloshelped me get better at PvP and i just kinda stuck around. Now I hold several staff positions as well as Council. The game its self is very nostalgic to me and the people ive met in forums are great. This game has a culture unlike any other ive seen.

I guess I'm still here because you guys are. Another year has passed and not much as changed. Not sure if that is innately bad, but the community is how it is. Happy birthday Elements, and to another year.

Hear, hear!

Happy Birthday EtG, War was a blast, and I look forward to other upcoming events
Why do I like this game so? The community is honestly one of the larger reasons I've stayed, I've made such good friends here.

Thank you all!

I'm here to crush noobs like Manual, IanLameFace, FakeBeef, and serpthesupernoob. Also to battle my arch nemesis kaempf. I joined because I knew I was the greatest elements player ever and thought I would gift this community my presence.

Also, how to grab cake?

Happy Birthday EtG.

That's a loaded question. Welp, here goes a shortish version of the life story of my activity here. Yes, it's another one of my long rants about my times here.

I have lots of random memories. Here's one. Way back when I was starting playing the game my brother (who at the time was still pretty new to the game) and I both thought that dimensional shield was a pretty mediocre card that was annoying but didn't do much. We thought this because we were still just fighting AI 1 and 2 and their damage output is low enough that three turns of waiting didn't matter much. This changed when we met the mono aether elder.

The game is good. For the first half or maybe a little more of my time coming around here I had great fun trying all the decks I could think of or grinding to get cards to try out decks. Not to mention all the digging through the forums I've done. I was learning all I could about this game I really liked. The discovering and implementing of deckbuilding rules and creating decks and optimizing decks was super fun. I love discussing things that interest me and I know stuff about but I rarely get to do it. I used to be involved on long entertaining discussions about decks and refining decks. Also discussing various topics related to forum stuff. I like to think I got to the point where I sort of "mastered" deck building concepts. At that point I had fun teaching new players deckbuilding or general game knowledge or looking up some forum info for them that I had seen before in my digging. That and, in my opinion, being a main provider of deckbuilding knowledge for new players with questions. I of course had fun with strategizing in various pvp events also.

Nowadays chat discussions I care about rarely happen. My passion for the game has mostly fizzled because new players don't show up much anymore looking for help with their deck and I've done pretty much everything you can do with that game outside of competitive pvp. Level 80+, False God farming, all types of arena farming, TE, #1 platinum decks ect. I could get the 60 pillar/pendulum version of TE but nah. As far as competitive pvp goes I've done my share of that too. I haven't been in as many pvp events as many people but I'm happy with my pvp achievements. My interest has shifted to chess now and school took up a lot of time.

I still come around to varying degrees because people need to stay and keep this place alive. I didn't want to give up being master of :life without a fight and I attempted to play another war which is basically all I've done recently besides popping in chat to maybe talk about random stuff. I've been here long enough to be comfortable talking about random stuff here so I sometimes ask random questions in the chat.

Cake please?

Happy birthday, EtG!

Over the years we've gathered quite the collection of amazing people doing amazing people things here. Whether it's ScaredGirl's prank banning of [you], OldTrees's consistent help and feedback in CI&A and Philosophy, Kuroaitou's lively Forum Games or Physsion and the whole dang W9 Darkness Team, there's always someone somewhere doing or plotting something incredible. Let's keep it going! There, is that enough for cake : p

Happy Birthday ETG.

I come back here regularly for a little nostalgia about the glory days of Wars 8-11.  Shout outs to my previous War team members: Physsion, Cal, Aves, Bacon (Pro and Chrispy, but especially Chrispy), Rapid, Afda, Phoenix, Bas, Hyro, dragon, captain, Rutarete, Drake, and sky!  Those days were a lot of fun. Keep up the great community and I'll likely lurk around until the flash crash swallows everything.

A great community has been built here and I think we can all agree that it has bought us happiness in some way. Thanks to all members for being cool, notably war teammates (especially Physs!): Physsion, Calindu, trashduke, Aves, bro, Sera, Zawadx, andretimpa, worldwideweb3, ddevans96 and [A].

Keep being awesome!

Give cake or I start a riot.

Tbh, the game isn't all that wonderful. Sure, it's a nice little game, but can't say it's amazing anymore, since there's not much you can do atm. Arena is broken. PvP is empty. Servers are horrendous. The only thing that keeps it alive is the community. Zanz is an asshole. Yes, I said it. I don't want to hear "he's busy with real life!" kind of excuse, because frankly, nobody believes that anymore.

I'm staying because I literally have nowhere else to go, and the people in this little corner of the internet are amazing. It's also my only contact to Afda. Come back Afda D:

Now for the memories:
- playing BL against Afda and always using my unupped nova poison dials. This deck used to beat almost anything, until Afda started putting purify in every deck :silly:
- beating aether with SoSebow in war. That was an amazing match.
- winning with control SoSebow in trials against Calin's SoBr salvagers. Another amazing match.
- playing antagonbow and grabbix before the immo nerf
- playing the old SoSebows in gold league, when SoSe used to cost 3 :chroma:
- top50
- the old firestall with the old SoG, when you could swarm as much fire quanta as you wanted. That deck sure was a pain to play against.

Elements proved to me that the Internet can be more than just a horrible pit of despair. That small, well moderated communities can be wonderful and that you can forge meaningful friendships over the internet with people you will never really "know" in the traditional sense.

The game was fun at the time, because no other online CCG of a similar quality existed. Today we're spoiled with choice on that front.

But even though I moved on to new things and new communities to be a part of, I will always remember this small corner of the internet where I spent way too much time in my 20s.

Shout out to team Sillyface  :silly:

What else is left to say? The most important thing has been uttered by others: this community is great and that's what keeps this
simple, but really addictive and fun game alive.

About the game... I like the science behind the game, how the game uses scientific concepts, natural phenomena for cards, like Schrödinger's cat, Mitosis etc.

Good memories, hmm... been here only for 1 year. War was something extraordinary! (But I wrote a lengthy post about it earlier in the 'Fallen' topic.)
I hope the game can survive at least another year to have another War like this! :)

ps: kudos for ian for being straightforward.

The classic question that is always asked on this day is, "Why do you love elements?".

Honestly, I don't know why I love this game as well as its community so much. I tried to set myself free from its clutches but I can't; I have to admit that I am just addicted. I am not that addicted to the game by itself but I am addicted to the occasional PvP event of the game or the occasional competition and the community is so polite and mature in such a good way! Let alone Forum Brawl which I believe it is one of the best inventions ever...

EDIT: So many people coming back for the reunion day. I am so happy! :D

You guys are a wonderful bunch, which is why I keep coming back. Suspect that's the case for several of us. Moreover, I just can't let go of organized PvP yet. The core design of this game is so good, even though it suffers from not being updated and supported.

Everyone, be sure to join us in Blab chat (http://elementscommunity.org/chat) today! A lot of both old and new faces have been hanging around so far.

10 years have passed, of which I managed to see the last 7 ... damn that was a long time ago.

This game is something special. Not only it is a really interesting take in the CCG idea, but it managed to somehow create a non-toxic community around it (though I think that might be more due to it always having remained kinda of underground)

Some memories I keep:
-War 7 and 9 were both special to me, playing with Dm, Oa, torb, Ginyu, itr and Solaris
-Brawl will always have a place in my heart and I met some awesome people there along the way (Ops, Spy, elk, eljoemo, Astrid, atom_heart, Kaker. Just to name a few)
-The banter between me, jijo and Krys in Brawl 3
-Working with Zephyr, OT and Anarook in the Rainbow-U project
-Working with serp, Fippe, CG and Ravizant in oetg
-Shitposting with Odin and ET in the card idea board
-Talking with Dm and vang about literally whatever in the BR thread
-Trolling Spike and Kuro in chat

Hope we get some of these people in chat today  :D

I didn’t  expect to find myself here after 10 years. I’ve been away for quite a while now, but I remember my time in the community fondly. It was definitely the best part of the game experience.

I started playing soon after the False gods were released (about 3/4 months after the game was released). There was a race to figure out how the heck to beat them. There were a few people who found some success. But the rest of us were struggling to find a deck that had any level of consistency.

Then Scaredgirl dropped her/his bomb of a post showing how he/she was doing it. We went through a lot of changes after that including the new forum and chat. But I remember those early days hanging out with complete strangers all over the globe and just having fun trying to figure out how to beat the False gods.

If you drop in for the reunion @cokeandaspirin and @didia, shoot me a DM!

Had to think about mine, but I've unfortunately lost my interest in EtG. But I'm thankful for the years and posts spent helping inspire creativity. Even though my designs are mostly garbage when I look back at it, just having the opportunity to iterate on design and learn from those mistakes are something I can't replace.

Here's to more years to come and hopefully the rise of a popular successor.

What a ride it has been. I love Elements for this amazing community that has stuck through good and bad times. Ostensibly we're here for a card game that is both accessible and has depth. I haven't been here in about 2 years, and i wasn't that active when I was here, but my time with Elements will always be memorable. I found it one day after searching "element card game". Elements was the 2nd result (the first was a game called Spectromancer, which i played for a few months before deciding to check the 2nd result). The game was good, I liked its aesthetic, but the main thing that interested me was the forum, when I saw that link underneath the game. I'd never seen anything like it before, at most I'd played games where you could chat with other people, but this forum had so much discussion, and history, and stuff to read. I'd often spend hours just reading through card ideas, before i even joined. It was basically the very first online community i became a part of, and I think out of the possible places i could have gotten taught the metaphorical ways of the internet, this was one of the better ones.
I had a great time playing forum games (Quantafied 4 when), and I joined Brawl 6, which was great too, i'd never done anything like that before. I think this forum definitely influenced my like of looking through old internet stuff that no one's looked at for years (I totally won the Necro Topic forum game http://elementscommunity.org/forum/forum-game-archive/the-necro-topic/ (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/forum-game-archive/the-necro-topic/)).
Also I still want to finish that murder mystery inspired by Elements I wrote 5 chapters of.

I don't.

We didn't play for the game, we played for the players. For it's the community that brings us together today, just as it did ten years ago, and will continue to do many years from today.

Heh, it's been 10years already, eh?

Seems so much but went by so fast.. so many memories to choose from. Probably my first War experience (War#3 I think?) if I had to choose.. all the excitement, effort and sleepless nights that went into it, and all the wonderful people to share with. An unmatched experience that'll always stay with me I think. But it was only one from many, many more.. Thank you all for being part of it and to those who still keep the spirit alive.

Would've been great to hop into chat for some nostalgia yesterday, sadly I wasn't able to.

A very happy anniversary everyone! Was great seeing you.

I've avoided posting in these threads over the years, but I'll make an exception for this one. Like many others, this community has given me more than I can describe in words. More memories than I could possibly count, friends from around the globe, goals to strive for, glorious victories, bitter defeats, companions, competitors, a job, a legacy, a family, a place to call home on the vast expanse of the internet. And, of course, mafia. I can only hope that I've given back as much as I've gotten.

Here's to another ten years.

I started playing on a friend's recommendation sometime in 2010, and has since then played it on and off like many others.
There are many great moments to remember. Being drafted in the last round of War #8 and then playing this amazing event. Funnily enough, I still remember hainkarga telling me the reason he took my was me being German, and that Germans are generally diligent. In all honesty I still don't know whether he was joking, but I sure didn't disappoint him! He even turned to become a mentor to me, don't know if he would like to be called like that, haha. Then, one year later, winning Trials myself and have an awesome War with inthisroom, andretimpa, Solaris and Naesala. Team Events are always my favourites in game (I hope Team PvP will sometimes come back so I can play that), and this is no exception. Whether is was hain, itr or later JCJ, I made great friends fighting our "enemies"!

And then, there is all the small things. In League, having JCJ create a 0/2 Chrysaora with Dive and comment with "worst ... mutant ... ever" made me laugh more than it should have. Playing Overdrive Titans vs. trashduke's DBH in Trenzalore, merely managing to get an Overdrive Titan out - and after 10-12 turns of just passing every turn, eventually even win because he could neither kill nor outheal it. You don't believe how tense a game can be despite doing nothing!

While Zanz has left this game, the community stays, and this is just amazing. Seeing all these people post here that have been active years ago when I was still a noob. Thanks for everyone helping to get this community up to the point where it is now. See some of you at the recent events!

I joined the blab chat on a whim during a super boring work orientation and MasterWalks got me started, and hooked me up with an electrum grind deck. Shortly after that, talk of War 12 started, and it was all downhill from there. War was a blast, and I'm here for keeps now. Gimme dat cake!

Happy (late) birthday Elements!

I have since long stopped actually playing the game, but I stay for the Forums and the Community, and I hope I can help it stay and grow!

I blame my absence on the lack of internet (just moved into a new place 1st of the month, took until Sunday to get internet sorted out).  By then I'd forgotten about this.  However, I'm here now, and better late than never.  Happy (super-late) birthday, EtG!

To be fair, I have long since not played EtG for more than an hour or so every few weeks, and I was never really a consistent player when it came to PvP Events.  However, my best memory is achieving Master of Gravity, since it was one of two goals when I joined the community.  Had I been more of a consistent player (and leader), perhaps could have managed to win us that War.  Also, even though my faith in the game and activity in the community has virtually died, it was truly my greatest (and longest) commitment (even surpassing my military service).

Why do I love Elements: the Game?
Well, I love just about any CCG, especially ones that use element system.

Why do I keep coming back to the game?
Because I want to be its Master of Water. Unfortunately, circumstances never allowed me to.

so bit late im sure, but thought id post. i cant believe its been 10 years. i started playing it apparently shortly after it was put online. i was in my last year of college in 2010 and frequent updates by Zanz were still happening. after he mostly disappeared i came on, would do some forum stuff, tried a tourny or 2 and kept at it trying to fullfill the full collection (still havent finished it). i used to try and do a lot of the card creation contests and did alright in some and even had a talented artist take a crack and designing the art for my cards.
i check in from time to time, but it does appear many of the names and people i knew stopped coming back. im sure some are still here or some lurking. i still hold out hope that someone will take over from Zanz or maybe he will come back to finally implement that last update that never went fully in.

Me, too. After hearing that Flash will die this year, I am hoping that someone will buy the right from Zanz and make an android version.

Fun to see some people from old times. I joined the forums 2012 but started playing 2010. There are a few other survivors as well.
