Spoiler for April NL 2018:
April 2018
Brawl is raging on!

FCM Interview                    Deck Idea of the Month

  • Elements Academy is in it's seventh round. With only 5 students left, the host has given out some weapons! Which student will come out at the top of their class?

  • The Forum Brawl keeps on going! Challenges get more and more exotic and the four teams of brave adventurers are getting closer to finding out the secret of the Ancestors as rounds go by. So, why not go to the voting threads and help your favorites by giving your vote to the best and finest? After the first round has commenced, team Paratus, led by DoctorC, is in the lead! Let's see if they can hang onto the title!

  • Of course, as the Brawl continues to climb to its culmination, no Competitions are going to be played so as not to sway the creative focus of the forum. That said, you can still sign up for the Competition Mailing List to ensure you're gonna be the first to be notified when a new competition is kicking into action.

  • A PvP classic! The tournament taking place on March 27th brought back everyone's favorite classic ruleset, speedbuilding! Participants had a limited amount of time to build their decks, creating a more intense and fast-paced environment! In the end, it was Vindilos who sped off with the win, leaving Wyand and ji412jo in his dust!

  • A battle of the... balls? March 31st gave us all a shock with this tournament name, but the task was simple! Gather your army of sparks and take down your competition! No other creatures were allowed, so players had to get creative with their decks to fight for the title of the Biggest Balls. In the end, worldwideweb3 took home the trophy, leaving Spielkind and InsignificantWeeaboo feeling a little..deflated.

  • Leagues are up and running, with RavingRabbid holding tightly into 1st place with 1554 points, phoenix1211 is closing the gap in 2nd place, with 1522 points, and Mr Muffin being very close behind, with only 2 points less than phoenix. With just over a month left, league participants are scrambling to get as much as they can, or should be anyway. Get battling folks!

  • For those who can't decide on their own restrictions, there are Weekly Featured Rules to tickle anyone's fancy! Just hop into chat and ask around for a match!

  • With succulent Nymph/Mark and Electrum codes up for grabs, there's no reason NOT to jump into Leagues! It's a great way for new players to pick up the meta in preparation for war, or more experienced players to strut their stuff, or even try out some fun deck concoctions to see how they do! What's more, the max number of games per opponent has been increased to 15, and you no longer have to wait 20 hours between matches! Get involved now!

  • Our beloved Forum Games section remains less active than the development of EtG, which would be impressive to even reach a point that low, if it wasn't so sad. Do you have any ideas on how to bring some life to Forum Games and make it blossom with action and participation once more? Make sure to follow these simple instructions and once you're done, poke Linkcat to discuss your brilliant idea with him!

All Over The Place!

  • This month, iancudorinmarian shows us the incredible strength of persistence by performing a miracle before our very eyes. He can make a religion out of it now.

  • Espithel shows us his fantastic ability to find loopholes in rules of all sorts of events, particularly, Forum Brawl rules, by creating the perfect Anti-BM card. Seems like Paratus could really use something like that.

  • Do you have any other idea for what can be featured in here? Feel free to PM us about what you think deserves a special spotlight in the community Newsletter.

  • Congratulations to DoctorC and Lunaris for becoming a part of Newsletter Writer Team!

TUNE OF THE MONTH!

Brawl is getting its action, so the fresh NLW intern DoctorC decided it was a good idea to have something quite action packed for this occasion.

Hover over cards for details, click for permalink
Deck import code : [Select]
6u3 6u3 74g 7di 7di 7di 7dp 7dp 7dp 7dp 7dp 7dp 7ee 7ee 7ee 7ee 7ee 7ee 7mt 7mt 7mt 7mt 7mt 7mt 7n9 7qb 7qb 7qb 7qb 80b 8po

Deck idea by Manuel.

Card by card:

Cremation: Main source of your quanta. Theoretically enough to power the whole deck, but an unlucky draw or quanta denial might mess things up.

Super Nova: While technically cremations themselves are theoretically enough to power enough, Supernovae are there in order to prevent loss due to quanta loss or a poor draw.

Damselfly: Damselflies can effectively be used as a fuel for cremations, but they also are useful in order to generate quanta to power the Sky Blitz. One could also use them as to scratch your opponent's HP in first few turns, but it's not recommended.

Shard of Bravery: Main drawing power. Immobug is an OTK and as such, you will require immense speed in order to play it. Paired with precognitions, these cards will allows you to set your deck insanely fast at a laughable cost.

Precognition: Also drawing power. Not as efficient as Shards of Bravery, but still pretty helpful in order to speed up the process.

Ruby Dragon: Main damage source. Powerful on their own, their power comes at the cost of being incredibly brittle, so playing them should require careful planning when you're dealing with limited resources.

Twin Universe: Both supernovae and cremations produce a lot of different quanta, so to use given resources more efficiently, your damage outcome can be amplified by casting a twin universe on a ruby dragon.

Sky Blitz: Damage multiplier. What can be better than a bunch of dragons dealing 15 ATK damage each? You guess it, doubling that amount! Sky blitz helps you to do exactly that.

Chimera: A way to bypass things like dim shield, dusk mantle or fog shield. It's a huge waste to not have your dragons deal damage, so to help, Chimera turns them all into one and grants them advantage of momentum and all at the cost of one card.

Strategy:

Idea is simple - Cremate your damselflies, play your supernovae, get as many cards as you can in as little time as you can using the SoBs and Precognitions, then play them in this exact order:
Ruby Dragons - Twin Universe - Sky Blitz - Chimera.
But what happens if you don't get some of the cards for a proper play? Well...

No cremations/damselflies: Better pray to Zanz you get them soon, since if there's no quanta, there's no cards that can be played. In the meantime, dispose of your precogs or SoBs, since your hand will probably be too clogged to draw anything.

No Shards of Bravery: Your only sense of worry will be either opponent having quanta stealing measures or them outrushing you while you're trying to get your drawing power, so beware of that. In the meantime, try saving a couple of cremations or supernovae just in case your opponent has a couple of pests up their sleeves.

No supernovae: Not lethal, but you might need to keep one or two damselflies alive in order to generate enough quanta for the Sky Blitz. Also watch out for quanta control.

No percognitions: Not as lethal as not having any Shards of Bravery. Pretty sure some will pop up when you used SoBs anyway.

Strengths:

Immobug holds quite an immense power, generating up to 120 unblockable damage in one turn, making a force to be reckoned with. And with a speed that SoBs and precoginitons grant you, you can do that almost instantly. That's incredibly useful for catching people off guard and breaking through almost any kind of stall that comes to mind.

Basically, if you're looking for a powerful stallbreaker and rush deck, Immobug is great for your desires.

Weaknesses:

That aside, there are some negative sides to this deck as well. Mainly, you rely a lot on being lucky with quanta draws. Even with the eight quanta generating cards, Immobug can still slip up on occasion. Especially weak against DBH and pestal decks - once you lose the quanta required to play any card that is crucial to deal damage, you're not gonna get it back, sadly. Another two things that block this deck are sanctuaries and sundials: Immobug doesn't have PC and things that prevent creatures from attacking or SoBs from working render a huge part of this deck useless. Getting outrushed can be a problem, but it's not very common for something to be faster than this.

Alternative deck choices:

Sadly, this deck doesn't offer much in terms of wiggle room for new cards it might need. PC can be useful to get rid of occasional sundial or two, and some measures could be added in order to prevent opponents from stealing quanta, but it feels like it'll just clog the deck instead of actually helping.

I AM ABSOLUTELY ROCKING TO THE TUNE OF THE MONTH

can has written lyrics?

The song is Thousand Foot Krutch's courtesy; called Bounce. We wanted to set it off with a strong start, even though we haven't really performed something even semi-proffestional, but what do we know. I mean, if JCJ's fond of it, then we probably did a good job.

Spoiler for Lyrics:
Note: Bounce in itself is kinda fitting for a big party of people just being insane and stuff, so we really didn't change much for it.

We come rushing through your stereo system, into your ear canal, like the alignment of the solar system.
Have you forgotten about the days when we just wanted to art cause we like it that way, and no more wars, no more trials, no more politics.
So sick of fakes who cry over fights and wins.
This is the day that we rise and we conquer it.
Raise your pens to the sky like apocalypse.

Everyone brawl, show me what it's all about, don't stand just brawl.
'Cause we're takin over now.
It's Arth and Fippe, they host the party, and keep the party brawling in an old school way.

Situation restless, like someone tryin to sneak up on the point list.
Let's play for a team that's called "not to mess with", and check out the scenario, let the sound ya hear, control your stereo. Turn it up and let the people know, We're never letting go, We're never letting go.
This is the day that we rise and we conquer it, raise our pens to the sky like apocalypse.

Everyone brawl, show me what it's all about, don't stand just brawl.
'Cause we're takin over now.
It's Arth and Fippe, they host the party, and keep the party brawling in an old school way.
Brawl, show me what it's all about, don't talk, just brawl.
Get up and let it all hang out,
If you find it hard to brawl, ya better just leave,
We 'bout to make it hotter than the third degree.

Let's break this mold, can't let this hold us, let's be drawers, no longer let them control us
Boys and girls, together we'll paint the world, if you believe then out it to the sky with me.
If you agree there is more to this than what we see and what we know.
Then brawl 'til ya lose control, and grab a partner.
We're about to make this hotter, turn up the heat while we get this started.

The time has come now shake up the dust until it settles the sand.
Brawl, brawl! (wake up n')
Brawl! (stand up n'), let your spirit fly
