Title: 17th Elements Council - Voting
Post by: mathman101 on April 14, 2019, 01:02:43 am

Applications for 17th Elements Council

Read them all carefully before making your choice

Hi there! I am InsignificantWeeaboo, Newsletter Writer and 12th General of Team Gravity.

Some of my projects/dedication to the community include:
  • The most recent Newsletters: (In collaboration with MasterWalks, and mathman for January):
    • http://elementscommunity.org/forum/forum-news-and-announcements/elements-news-letter-february-2019/
    • http://elementscommunity.org/forum/forum-news-and-announcements/elements-community-news-letter-march-2019/
    • April's Newsletter, which at this time of the creation of this application hasn't been released yet.
  • Tier List of All the Creatures (In collaboration with ddevans): http://elementscommunity.org/forum/general-discussion/creature-tier-list-by-ddevans96-and-insignificantweeaboo/
  • All War 12 Decks Used: http://elementscommunity.org/forum/general-discussion/war-12-all-decks-used-67002/

So why should you vote for me? I'm known for being one of the most active people in this community, hard working, insightful, wise for my age, and easy to work with. I'm also pretty decent at BBcode, and can come up with rational decisions. In fact, my contributions to the community are arguably better than my achievements in PvP.

While I have yet to conceptualize new ideas for the community, I am interested in implementing a War Planning Team that a couple of people have talked about to help create a War that is more suitable for our declining player base; as well as helping to stabilize or even increase it. If I do get accepted into the Council, I hope to improve the community to the best of my ability.

Thank you for your time, and please consider voting for me.

Hello, after recently becoming more active, I would like to be a part of Council once again to help make decisions that will benefit the community.

My agenda is as follows:
  • Start a serious discussion about splitting War as described here (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/war/war-12-suggestions-and-feedback/msg1285070/#msg1285070).
  • Organize an Elements Reunion Day on May 10th, Elements' anniversary. From a mention in the Newsletter it looks like somebody else had the same idea, which will make this easier.
  • Develop a new council system that will prevent stagnation.
  • Assist the new admins with whatever initiatives they have planned.

Thanks for your consideration.

I've never posted in the 'Staff Member Inactivity Thread'.

Greetings Elementals.

I would like to submit an application for the 17th Council of Elements. With a seat at the council, I can promise a quicker and more efficient immediate response to requests from the council, a strong desire to grow the community as well as keep the members we already have, and the actual motivation to start, respond, and follow through with council and community projects.
I would like to present an outline of my plan on accomplishing this;
  • Ignite the social media flame again. Sharing more threads and updates on social media sites will shed light on a game many will see as nostalgic. Our subreddit is currently underutilized and a twitch search shows no clips or streams. Both of these sites are big with gaming and where my attention will go when building the community
  • If you need an immediate council response, I am almost always reachable. I work in a phone store, my phone is always on me. A Discord PM will ring my phone, a forum PM goes to my email which rings my phone, a reddit PM will ring my phone twice for some reason. With exception of 8 hours of sleep, you will receive a response in minutes.
  • Like many of you, I care about this community. While i may have joined forums last year, I played the game long before that. With no dev, we must come up with our own ways to "update" the way to play elements as well as community engagement via forums. To do this, I would like to get a ball moving on Forum Games, give a refreshing spin on the Mentor System, and finally ensure an existence of a War 13.

Positions currently held:

  • News Letter Writer
  • League Organizer
  • Chat Moderator
  • Subreddit Moderator

Thank you for the opportunity and your time.
MasterWalks

Hello,

For years now, I have been on and off around the forums with fluctuating activity. When I feel like my help has been required, I have helped out with tournaments most of all, but have also served as a council member for several terms. My activity is nothing like those old times, nor do I intend to get anywhere near as involved. Yet, if my help is deemed required for the current council, I will do my best to give my support.
As a council member, it is probably important to know what ideals I strive for, and what I seek in others for things like staff hirings. Honesty, integrity and reliability are the things I value most.

This vote feels more like choosing who you'd want to exclude more than who you'd want to include. If they can all contribute, is there a reason to reduce council size?

Well if you don't exclude someone what's the point of voting anyway?

I'd vote for just accepting all five of them

Right. Is there a point to voting? If there were 6 council slots in #16, and we get 5 applicants, is there a reason that we're reducing council slots to 4? It seems like exclusion for exclusion's sake. There's some merit to keeping Council at a reasonable/manageable size, but this doesn't look like that.

Oh, so there's four spots and five applicants. Rather than letting someone down through voting, I'd rather see all other four applicants form the council. Regardles of whom would get excluded by votes, it'd be a bit bitter for them.

Where's the "None Worthy" option?

Council size was reduced to address the problems it's had in the past. Also, this is just a temporary council and one of its main jobs will be to determine the future of the council system. This being the case, I'm not opposed to making an exception this time.

I vote for all 5, all have activity and will to contribute.

Personally, I see no issue to allowing all 5 into the council has had been stated it is only a temporary term (lasting only 4 months).

I will double check with some of the other current council members and maybe another admin before I give an official answer though.

In my experience, 7 is when members of a team begin slacking off thinking someone else will do it. As such, 6 is fine and so is 5.

I want to say thank you to all those that voiced their opinion both publicly here in topic and privately by forum PM, blab chat, and discord chat.
After all the various input, we have agreed to go with 5 members for the upcoming council term.

Congratulations to the 17th council members:
