Spoiler for August NL 2017:
August 2017
14th Council Voting is underway
War is coming!

  • Draft IV has finally finished it's mighty and long run, as team A consisting of worldwideweb3 and kaempfer13 managed to secure the win in this event. Was it their amazing deckbuilding and PvP skills or did they just draft a strategic set of cards for dominance, no one knows but them and congratz on the win.

  • RL can be extremely busy, and we all realize that as we still exuberantly wait for both the 2016 WC Final match and the Grandmaster final set of matches to be played. We wish the best of luck to both sets of players as they try to organize a time for the remaining games.

  • What will be the next PvP Event to occur? With war about a month away the PvPEM's have started pulling up a potential event that could be run during war. Check out the rules for Sideboard #4, and post any comments or concerns there on using this as our next PvP event.

  • With the PvP year nearing the end of it's cycle, participants are reminded that 2017 WC qualification points end on September 30th. Anyone still in need of points to qualify for the WC should start playing in tournaments, leagues, and any PvP events occurring. As always you can check out the current standings through the link in this post.

  • Champions from far and wide have come to reveal the mighty elemental to lead them all into battle. What is more inspiring than that of a Water Inspirer, congratz to Manuel for creating the card winning submission.

  • The League of Battle Champions competition needs your votes on its amazing selection of submissions. Go vote now and help the League Organizers hand out a mighty award.

  • Yellow Journalism is not all about the element of  :time, but more about the humor and ridiculous facts that a news story could cover. Check out the submissions for this competition and vote on your favorite while there is still time on the poll.

  • Did you miss out this month on the exciting competitions due to your busy lifestyle? Then sign up now for the Competition Mailing Lists so that you don't miss out on the exciting competitions to come in the future.

  • One card to rule them all. July 1st's One of a Kind tournament had players building decks with only one of each card. moehrpi singled his way out from the crowd as he went for the winners circle to win the tourney, congratz on the win.

  • Hear the tale of the earthly David and Goliath battle, in this week's Pebble and the Mountain! July 9th's tournament had players building decks around a set of summoning cost parameters, extremely low or very large! phoenix1211 showed his stuff as he rose to the top with mountainous decks. Congratz on the win.

  • Be quick and fast, as rules are pulled out randomly. Speedbuilding - Potluck was July 16th's tourney with a set of fun rules. Weaving his way through the rules and eliminating all his opponents was kaempfer13, congratz on the win.

  • An old school classic comes to us in a revisited version of Children of the Oracle. July 22nd's Children of the Oracle: Homecoming had players building decks around a given set of elements, based on who their opponents were. iancudorinmarian eliminated the competition and made successful use of the elements he acquired, congratz on the win.

  • Too weak for you, time for an upgrade! Upgrade was a tournament on July 30th all about gaining extra upgrades for every lost game. phoenix1211 upgraded to the max as he took the win from the tournament participants, congratz on the win.

  • Less than two weeks to go before the end of the season and things look tight at the top! phoenix1211 is currently in the lead with 1577 points, just ahead of JonathanCrazyJ and worldwideweb3. Will things look the way they do now in two weeks' time? Will there be a shake up at the top? Stay tuned to find out!

  • For those who can't decide on their own restrictions, there are Weekly Featured Rules to tickle anyone's fancy! Just hop into chat and ask around for a match!

  • With succulent Nymph/Mark and Electrum codes up for grabs, there's no reason NOT to jump into Leagues! It's a great way for new players to pick up the meta in preparation for war, or more experienced players to strut their stuff, or even try out some fun deck concoctions to see how they do! What's more, the max number of games per opponent has been increased to 15, and you no longer have to wait 20 hours between matches! Get involved now!

  • The Pipeworks has come to an epic conclusion as the remaining 3 factions all made it out alive. However after evaluating all faction goals and individual goals, host CleanOnion has awarded Cultists with the win. Congratulations on the win Cultists and all factions who made it to the end alive.

  • rob77dp has perished in his game of the mafia world championships as he fought for his life in one of the semi-finals games. We wish him the best of luck at his chance to make it to the finals, and thank him greatly for representing our community well.

  • What is better than playing with your miniature toy tanks, playing with toy tanks that blow each other up! Final day of sign-ups are ongoing for Toy Tanks, a game hosted by Naii_the_Baf, in which you control a tank that could destroy both the room and your opponents.

All Over The Place!

  • Nothing beats writing a letter or document the good old fashioned way like pen and paper. Everybody has a favorite type of pen they like to use, so show yours off in the Pens thread and lets compare writing tools.

  • Brain busting puzzles are always a strong way to keep your mind sharp and well focused. theelkspeaks brings us a small collection of puzzles and challenges for you to decypher in Elk's Puzzle Page. Check it out now and stay tuned for his next challenge.

  • Generals are needed to lead a selected few set of elements into a mighty battle called War. Apply within if you feel that you have a courage and skill to take one of these elements to the top of the scoreboards.

  • Was this info not the type of info you wanted to hear about in this area? Then send in to the Newsletter Writer team what you would like to see in this section, and we will be happy to post it in an upcoming NL.

  • A new council is around the corner as the forums undergo this bi-annual change of staff. Go now and read up on the applications and then make an informed vote for who will sit on the next council. Best of luck to all those who applied for the 14th council.

Deck idea by iancudorinmarian
Deck review and name by Basman-1453

Card by card:
Entropy Pendulums: Because even the most OP cards can never be casted without paying the quanta. More seriously, even without considering the fact that the deck was constructed with a requirement of containing at least 50% Entropy cards in mind, Entropy Pendulums will be required to jumpstart those Supernovae and start messing with your opponent's head.

Novae and Supernovae: Because even the most OP cards can never be casted without paying the quanta. More seriously, they're there to fuel the various support cards this deck packs.

Dune Scorpions: An interesting core of this deck. It might look impotent at first, but buff it and it will start inflicting neurotoxin on your opponent, which unique effect makes even one drop of it threatening without proper response. It stacks with regular toxin effected by Deathstalkers, too.

Deathstalkers: A clever support to help the Dune Scorpions dogpiling poison counters on your enemy, this creature also needs the loving touch of a stat buff to have its ability -- placing two poison counters upon attack -- be a headache that intensifies over time.

Chaos Powers and Improved Blessing: Another important part of this deck. Without one of these or Unstoppable (see below), your creatures aren't going to do any damage to your opponent. While Chaos Power might grant anywhere from +1/+1 to +5/+5 and Improved Blessing is a guaranteed +3/+3, their subjects will still deal physical damage, which is why the author decides to lump them together here.

Unstoppables: Another way to buff the stats of your scorpions. What it lacks in stat boost -- a mere +1/+1 compared to the potential +5/+5 of Chaos Power or the surefire +3/+3 of Improved Blessing -- it more than makes up with its unparalleled shield-bypassing capacity. Creatures affected with this buff will start dealing momentum damage that will bypass all sorts of shields and damage redirection. Your scorpions in particular will love the ability to reliably hit and poison your opponent as long as your opponent don't actively take care of it.

Epinephrine: A touch of this is going to make your creature hyperactive, attacking up to four times in one turn! A dangerous buff indeed, especially for the low attack value your scorpions tends to have after one buff. Your scorpions will only poison its target twice, however.

Improved Fog: Hax shield. Seriously, though, this or Vampire Dagger has a habit of prolonging your lifelihood by a few turns, which is usually enough to have you come on top. Imagine both. This one does its part by letting you evade physical attacks 40% of the time, all for the stupidly cheap casting cost of 1 Air.

Vampire Dagger: A powerful weapon indeed, this card does up to six points of damage and then heals you by that many points. For a casting cost of 2 Darkness, few weapons can come close to its power level.

Strategy:
This deck is built with one thing in its mind: having your scorpions poison enemies in its path. You might want to keep the scorpions in hand until you can buff it, however, so that it may attack -- and poison -- your opponent on its very first active turn.

Strengths:
When things are in its way, it can put up frighening number of poison counters; a dozen or so is not unheard of, especially when Deathstalkers are also involved. Since neurotoxin also intensifies with each and every card its victim plays, it can keep on intensifying even behind the most sturdy or elusive shields. That neurotoxin will also pressure its victim, since every card they play might as well be their last.

Weaknesses:
Any sort of CC, particularly reusable ones, will also put a pretty nasty impact on your deck, espeially since your scorpions needs to be buffed before they can do anything. Without any sort of control whatsoever, enemies will be at a near freedom to harass your game plan, either by outhealing your poisonous damage output or by nullifying the creatures.

Alternative deck choices:
When the deck performed, the user was restricted from using, amongst others, Reverse Times, Lightnings, and Deflagrations. They are some great options to assert some control over the field. Poisons were also resticted, but stuffing them into this deck might need more significant adjustments than simply replacing the Deathstalkers with them.
If creature hit point is not an issue, you can also slip in one Shard of Wisdom (creatures dealing spell damage won't inflict poison, but you wouldn't need to worry that since only Immaterial creatures will start dealing spell damage upon casting and you have no way to Immortalise your creatures) for a surefire +4/+0 boost, making your scorpions hit harder but easier to neutralise as well.

This Card review was written by Aves

:light Light is an element with strong and powerful tools, both in offense and defense. Cards like Miracle, Sanctuary, and Hope are definitive in their role with strong healing and damage reduction, while offense is carried by CC resistant attackers like Archangel. Light also has the most weapon/shield related theme in the game, with three shields (Solar Shield, Reflective Shield, Hope), a weapon ( Morning Star), and the unique endow mechanic on Crusader.

OdinVanguard continues to produce interesting ideas as he delves into the possibility of a second weapon for Light.

Weapon Synergy

:light Light's existing weapon, Morning Star meets the theme of its other attackers in being hard hitting and hard to kill, being completely untargetable -- at least, without Voodoo Doll or Ice Lance shenanigans! This has the side effect of making Crusader unable to wield its own element's sword, and emphasizes the ability as an effect meant to synergize with other elements.

Blade of Justice | Sword of Vengeance fills that synergizing niche without overshadowing the existing weapon, sacrificing initial attacking power in return for far greater utilty and defense. Light's creatures tend to have high HP values, making them resistant to attack. One such attack provides 3/4 return damage from this weapon. When combined with the possibility of having multiple endowed or animated copies, this card can effectively deter all forms of CC with stacking return damage. Even with just one copy, mass CC is out of the question, with up to 70 or 94 total damage if all 23 creature slots are damaged. In a more realistic scenario, with 6 creatures in play that's still 18/24 return damage for taking them out. This provides an incentive to create many creatures on the field with cards like Fractal or Boneyard.

All of the above with regards to CC deterrence is merely the result of the passive ability. In addition to the scaling damage, this card has two different active abilities for the unupped and upped versions, should your opponent choose to ignore the deterrence. The unupped version allows the user to convert the next attack into healing at the cost of :water. Importantly, healing doesn't count as attacking, and the weapon will continue to scale up in damage with continuous use of the ability, allowing for both a potential OTK and ever-increasing amounts of healing, assuming your creatures are damaged.  The upped version allows the user to convert the damage into a targeted CC effect directly with the application of :fire :fire.

Here is a deck designed by Aves that shows an effective way to use :light Blade of Justice | Sword of Retribution!

(Relics represent :light Blade of Justice)

This deck spams Ray of Light and Crusader, amping them up with Shard of Patience. Nymph's Tears are included for extra damage and to soak up any extra :water quanta, while Miracle and Shard of Divinity provide time while the shard does its work. This classic combo takes on a new dimension with Blade of Justice, however. The key here is that the crusaders are now also able to heal. In fact, this healing scales with SoP. Should your creatures be attacked before you're able to pull off an OTK, that still increases the N value of your weapon, which in turn increases your turn by turn healing and adds onto your OTK value. Strong permanent control would be a weakness of this deck, but barring that, this feels like it would be a blast to play, with simultaneously increasing offense and defense.

:light Light is a strong and steady element with many defensive synergies. Blade of Justice | Sword of Vengeance is a worthy addition to their number, adding a measure of CC-deterring, healing, scaling offense, and CC-- all in one card.

Weirdly enough, it's not here yet. We recall that happening before, but it was only few hours of difference. The fact that it's still not here is kinda weird.
That said, pretty sure Zya or Math are gonna post it when they wake up or something (Hopefully)
