If you would you like to host an Elements Mafia, just post on this topic! Hosts are chosen by popular vote. When the time comes to decide on the next mafia, everybody signed up as a host will receive a PM with an estimated deadline to send in their completed mafia rulesets to the FGOs. Even if you are not on the signup list, you may still send in a ruleset, and it will be included in the next poll. The mafia idea which receives the most votes will be run as the next mafia. Credit goes to RootRanger for this idea.

Sunless Sea Mafia

You are all aboard a ship out zee, it’s been months since the crew has seen land, and many are restless. One night, many are growing weary of the constant zee and taste of salt. One suggests a mutiny amid the grumble and all fall silent. After a moment, he chuckles softly and claims it’s a foolhardy thought. An hour later the captain is found dead on the deck. A note is pegged to the message board “The Silent Mutineers Call”. The coal is missing, likely thrown out to zee, and the crew is fearful. Either the mutineers will be ousted, or they will kill their way into control of the ship. Only time will tell.
General Rules
1.   Do not post, chat, OR PM ANY revealing information if you have been killed/removed from this mafia. You are allowed one death post that contains no information or commentary about the players.
2.   You are not allowed to edit or remove your post. Instead, EBWOP will take effect. This means you must post again with the correct fixes.
3.   Directly quoting or providing proof in any way of any PM sent by the host will result in an instant modkill and referral to the FGO.
4.   You are not allowed to directly quote any PM sent by another player, unless you are quoting it to a fellow mafia member confirmed by the host.
5.   You are not allowed to request to be modkilled in the thread. If you PM the host requesting to be modkilled, the host must find a substitute or modkill you at the end of the phase.
6.   All players' actions should be primarily motivated by winning the game. Throwing the game or outing your teammates for no strategic value is not allowed.
7.   The host has the final say in any dispute. Do not impersonate the host.
8.   Any flaming/trolling will not be tolerated.
9.   Players' actions should be motivated by this game's events solely. You may look at past mafias to determine behaviors for better reads, but keep personal affairs out of the game.
10. Anything said within the context of the game, including promises, bets, etc, stays within the game. Players can lie, deceive, and manipulate, (but not cheat) in any way they like. Slander within the context of the game is usually not meant as a personal offense.
Specific Rules/Notes
1: All communication must be done in thread, chat and private messages between players is off limits.
2: The game starts on Day 1
3: Each phase will be at least 48 hours. This may be extended on request and necessity, but at least 12 hours of notice will be given before an extension.
4: On a vote tie, no lynch will occur.
5: You may vote for no lynch.
6: Roles are unique, no two players can be the same person
7: No roles will be guaranteed to belong to a certain faction.


Primary Roles:
Loyal Zailor: Town of the game. No additional abilities
Mutineer: The mafia of the game. Every night they may target one player to kill.


Officer Roles:
Bandaged Poissonnier: (1U) Poison a player, if they are killed during the night, the person who killed them dies with them, otherwise they die 2 nights from now.
Nacreous Survivor: (EoR): All targeting effects have no effect when targeting you this round
Magician: (ER) Target a player, learn their officer role. Target them again to learn their Primary Role
Maybe’s Rival: (EoR) Learn who targeted a target player, and who the player targeted.
Carnelian Exile: (Passive) You may also vote via PM to the host (Replaces in thread votes)
Sigil-Eaten Navigator: (EoR) Target cannot use their ability or send in the night kill. They are not informed of this ability use.
Irrepressible Cannoneer: (1U) Kill a target player, their role is not revealed.
Presbyterate Adventuress: (Passive) When you are lynched, reveal which officers, and which primary roles voted on you.
Indomitable Campaigner: (ER) Target a player, if they would be night killed, instead you die, and they are publicly revealed as saved.
Disillusioned Doctor: (Passive) Gain .5 Vote Power every time someone is lynched.
Scarred Sister: (EoR) If the target player would die tonight, instead they lose the ability to post and use abilities, and may only vote.
Zailor: A simple crew member, a boat must have a crew.


Message board
There is a message board on the deck of the ship that the crew often leaves notes on. Players may leave notes whenever they like, and sign them however they like. These notes are sent via PM to the host to be posted during the day.

Bloody Night Massacre

This mafia will be very quick paced. If you like long, slow, thought out mafias where you have plenty of time to create alliances, betray your allies, be a scumbag and then regain their trust, this mafia is not for you.

Most roles are taken from the website in which I play mafia in french. I will also be using Werewolves instead of mafia members. Lots of roles may sound familiar to people who have played Werewolf, but I suggest reading it all because I have changed some small details. Without further ado, here are the roles :

Spoiler for villains:
Werewolf : This is your regular mafia member. Werewolves win if there are no more civillians alive.
White Werewolf : This is a Werewolf with an extra ability. Every other night, he may kill another werewolf. If the white werewolf ends the game as the sole survivor, he gets 2 extra Master of Mafia points.
 Big Bad Wolf : This is a Werewolf with an extra ability. Once in the game, he may choose a civilian. That civilian becomes a Werewolf, permanently.

Spoiler for Civillians:
Vanilla Townie : This is your regular villager. Villagers win the game if all werewolves are dead.
The angel : This is a villager with an extra ability. If the angel gets lynched on the very first day, he wins the game alone. Winning this way gives 2 extra Master of Mafia points.
Sorcerer: This is a villager with two extra abilities. The sorcerer starts with 2 potions, a potion of life and a potion of death. Each night, the sorcerer learns who is about to get killed by the werewolves. That player can then either use their potion of life to save this person, use their potion of death to kill someone else, use both or neither. Though, if the sorcerer has already used both their potions, they will no longer learn the identity of the player about to get killed.
Cupid : this is a villager with an extra ability. At the start of night 1, Cupid chooses 2 players. When one player dies, the other player dies from sorrow.
Hunter : This is a villager with an extra ability. When the hunter dies, he chooses another player to shoot as he dies. This is mandatory.
Raven: This is a villager with an extra ability. Each night, Raven can choose a target. This target starts the next day phase with 2 votes on their head.
Village idiot : This is a villager with an extra ability. The first time he would get lynched, he instead stays alive, but loses his voting power.
seer : this is a Villager with an extra ability. Each night, the seer targets a person, and learns that person's role. If the Wild Kid is targeted, the answer received is Wild Kid. 
Spoiler for Others:
Flute player : The flute player is neither a villager, nor mafia. Each night, the flute player can charm 2 players. At the start of each day, it is publicly revealed who is charmed. If the Flute player manages to charm everybody that is alive before dying, he wins the game. Alone. Winning this way grants 2 extra Master of Mafia points. Despite not being a villager, he can be targeted by the Big Bad Wolf
Wild Kid : In N1, the wild kid chooses a target. The wild kid is a villager for as long as that person is alive. When that person dies, the Wild Kid permanently becomes a Werewolf.

As for lore, I'm thinking of a very simple lore of a little village in which werewolf are eating villagers.

I don't know what is the best place to ask this, but this topic seemed the best:

In mafia games where people are allowed to post at night phase, would it be a good and logical change if we allowed players to edit their posts they made during the night phase? I think EBWOP is only in effect to prevent players changing their votes during the day, but at night there is no voting whatsoever.

I had a really hilarious idea today for a mafia game. The players would be people on the train, the mafia would be conductors, and instead of nightkilling, people get taken off the train. People with (consumable) train tickets are immune to the conductors for 1 station. And etc, why do these ideas keep coming to me when i already have a finalized theme?

I once played a game online with the exact same theme (people on a train, being killed left and right) but it wasn't really called mafia, and iirc it was looser. Fun memories.
When you play the game of thrones, you win or you die. There is no middle ground.

Think it would be prudent to post my mafia setup for vetting (since it's not closed mafia anyway) here. See below.

2066. It was a bustling decade for the city of Neo Antitanpad, now bustling with vast technological advances. A new contraption was finally about to be announced – dreamed for ages but never conceptualized until today – the time machine. Work on it was about to be completed and expected to be released the next month.
October 22, 2066. 6AM.
“It’s gone! All of it! Vanished in thin air!”
“What do you mean it’s gone? How is anyone supposed to carry a 1 tonne contraption out of the facility without ANYONE noticing?!”
“Well, it can only be one of the scientists over here, the building has been locked since dusk.”
“I’ll get my men to find it. You, lock down the area. Nobody leaves until I get to the bottom of the issue. I won’t hesitate to get rid of anyone who gets in the way of my empire.”
“As you say…. Joe.”
With that, the dark-suited man exited the office, preparing to round up all the scientists for questioning. In his mind he thought: Whoever is behind this, whatever his motive might be, I’d be sure he’ll regret it.
October 22, 2066. 7AM.
“Are you really sure you want to go ahead with this?”
“Dude, we’ve been here all our working lives for this moment. This is when we have our whole families back. Our lives back. We will avenge the tyrants. Hand me the shrink ray.”
The scientist proceeded to shrink the stolen time machine to the size of a pea. Throwing it and the shrink ray into a duffel bag, he took out the pillow on the bed from its covering and tossed it out of the bedroom’s window covered the bag with the pillow covering.
“It’ll all be over soon,” the other scientist comforted, and patted him on the shoulder. “Just, act innocent; hopefully we can pin the blame on someone else while we finish the machine ourselves. We got the blueprints, we’ll make this happen. The farce that is Neo Antitanpad would cease to exist.”
Just then, the alarm bells sounded.
October 22, 2066. 7:10AM.
Scientists were all gathered at the main hall. A voice blared from every speaker, and a giant monitor lit up, heralding an ominous message.
“Okay, look, we’ve been working on this project for years, and we simply cannot afford to slip behind schedule on this… As you might have known, the time machine has been stolen – I have no idea HOW this has happened, but nobody is allowed to exit this facility until you guys find me the contraption! Or of course, you could build a new one… but can you?”
And all went to static.
There was much chaos. Accusations flew everywhere. People started to steal weapons in order to find who they thought were the thieves, and bring back the time machine. Of course, many were wrong, and innocent lives were lost.
Only a handful of survivors are left. The thieves are still at large. Of course, they’ve been preparing a secret base known only to them, and are preparing the final preparations to return and to fix the day that ruined their lives forever.

I'd like to propose that people can only signup if they present at least the core of a ruleset, and they can only host if their ruleset has been thoroughly reviewed for balance by multiple people. This would help heavily with quality control, and would also help with the large amount of signups, limiting it to those with motivation to host and balance properly.

I find that unnecessary for this not being a mafia based forum. I think more fair would be a submission of a core set to Kuroaitou to make sure it's functional instead.

I find that unnecessary for this not being a mafia based forum. I think more fair would be a submission of a core set to Kuroaitou to make sure it's functional instead.


Kuro isn't all knowing, I'm sure he too could make an oversight during the balancing of a mafia. The point of rulesets being posted would be to allow multiple perspectives to give insight into the balancing of a mafia game. It's not like its an exceptional hassle, considering most of the time when people sign up they have an idea in mind already.

I forsee a "too many cooks" situation that will make mafia's either beaten before they start by over analysis, bland from over standardization, or lose there hype by being talked to death. I think if someone /wants/ to show their mafia to mafia pros for comments, fine. But I'd prefer Kuro (as he has the staff position for it), okay their functionality as sufficient

If players think a mafia is broken beyond belief they can not join. If several players are afraid of unbalanced rule sets, they can make "How to make a balanced mafia" guides. But, like I said, this is not a mafia forum. If we wanted to get nitty-gritty on rulesets we might as well go there. Or just play Town of Salem or something. I heavily dislike this suggestion the more I think about it and the net benefit is a possibility of slight balance increase (that guides would do just as much for.)
