I think negative karma has returned with this new reputation system; it's now possible to "disagree" with a post.

That has been disabled. If you don't believe me, feel free to test it out on this post. I should probably go do some custom editing and remove that option altogether. Makes little sense having it as an option if nobody can use it.

Would it also be possible to edit "Agree" with something different? Maybe it's just being used to Reddiquette, but I occasionally find myself giving karma to things that I don't necessarily agree with but think are good posts anyway.

Well, the reputation power/influence thing seems pretty cool. Hopefully it'll give us an idea of who the most active/helpful members are in the community, while also giving vets and 'semi-vets' the ability to understand how they got to the position today. ^^

I...dislike a lot of features of the new forum actually.

The names of staff members no longer have colors, so it's more difficult to find a recent post by a staff member. There's also no difference between even the color of a newbie and a legendary member.

It looks like the [desc] tag got removed entirely, which is a shame for how useful it is. Also, mousing over reputation says things like 'This person has no influence' which seems highly derogatory.


One last, minor thing is that if you look at the spoiler tag above, it's misspelled. That at the very least should be changed if possible.

I hope these are things that will be changed eventually. I won't even go into how bad of an idea the rating system is because most people seem to disagree with that.

I would venture to guess that a lot of these things will be worked out over the next day or two, especially the name highlights, missing tags, and the mis-spelled "hidden". I imagine there will be a lot of debate about reputation, just as there was about Karma. Personally, I think this is a big step in the right direction from how Karma worked.

I love the reputation system, I just hate the messages when you mouse over them. If the old karma logs could be transferred and added to the reputation here it would be much better, as right now some people with lots of karma before 'have no influence'.

Totally agree with what UTAlan said. Let's wait a while and give some time for SG to work things out. My suggestion is the discussion about the reputation should be continued after everything is working correctly.

Also, a big thanks to SG for handling the situation so quickly!

Yes, I have. I just wanted to know if those particular features were still available through plugins and if they were going to be added at all.

I mentioned this because http://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/Basic_bulletin_board_codes does not list the [desc] tag at all. Hence the word 'entirely'. Then again it doesn't list the countdown, shadow, and a few other functions either.

You realize how easy is it just to lower the value of a post by rating it down, because you don't like the person, or because you feel like trolling? The only real use here is to see what the community thinks of a card idea. And even then, if possible through plugin, it should be optional or made an option for the original poster to disable it for that thread.

W00t, such big changes already, I guess I'll keep my mouth shut about stuff staff members with low rep, masters not having shiney titles yet :p all names being gray Darkness Master should totally be displayed in black, awards missing and /desc(ription) and /user thing missing untill it's ready, awesome SG! :D (totally worth + Rep)

hmm, not seeing too many difference except slight forum layouts.  Rating topics is nice though
