Just because anime is childish and stupid is no reason to ban it from being used as an avatar, as long as it isn't hentai or something obscene like that.  Sure, I'd like it if there weren't any more ugly anime avatars, too, but people have the right to use it as their avatar.  Every community has something like this.  If we were in a vampire forum, there would be demands from those who like real vampires like Dracula or Nosferatu to ban avatar of Twilight b.s., if we were a porn forum there would be demands to ban people using avatars of 300kg naked people, if we were in a politics forum, there would be demands to ban Sarah Palin avatars.  It's the way of things; man up, ignore it, and remember you have better taste than that.

you realize that this this "suggestion" (not entirely sure its real) is pretty much like trying to ban avatars of celebrities.
1. its not going to happen.... PERIOD, so get the flying f*** over it panzy
2. sg would be pissed if anyone suggested banning celeb avatars... *cough* looks like Angelina Joule *cough*
3. did i mention G E T  O V E R  I T !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
4. personal opinion will never merit banishment of anything. it has to be reasonable, which is something you aren't capable of
unit...You know you're being childish, right?

Overview: You compare it to banning pictures of celebrities. This is false analogy; celebrities are not childish nor perverse in any way. However, many believe that manga/anime characters (ash ketchum, naruto, goku) are from childish media, and Uppercut finds that this undermines the "professionalism" of the forums.

To thoroughly attack your points:
1. I think that it can happen because mods can certainly be endowed with the power to change a user's profile picture. And if we just "got over" discrimination and oppression because change was "not gonna happen", then we wouldn't be where we are now.
2. ScaredGirl would not be pissed at anything if a higher power wanted her to change her profile picture to something less obscene. You clearly beg the question with this point. In addition, there is no "higher power" (except maybe zanz), and she would not "be pissed" if she was the one who passed the rule.
3. Sigh.
4. He's plenty reasonable, and your personal insults are really immature. It only shows that you've only read the topic w/o actually reading the opening post. His reasons are a) anime/manga images are aesthetically unpleasing and b) anyone who uses an anime/manga default portrays themself as a wapanese, and since many use anime/manga defaults, a large portion of this otherwise "credible" community is portrayed as wapanese...Therefore, banning anime/manga avatars would make this community more credible.

I hate people using the "Holy Light" avatar, they look crappy to me. We might as well include this in the ban just to satisfy my selfish personal preferences.
Not so active.

*sigh*
1. what i meant was: sg wouldnt accept this rule because it IS unreasonable
2. her pic is no where near obscene, so im sure she would. at least i would if someone uses their PERSONAL OPINION to enforce stupid rules
4. no, he's not. first of all, anime can be very aesthetically pleasing; if you havent found any like that, im sorry, but its pretty much generalizing an entire subject based on very little representation, which is exactly what RACISM does. and second of all, not all anime characters are japanese (again, refer to the GENERALIZING THING), so your wapanese comment had absolutely no ground. and he was insulting the anime community with BOTH of his original posts.

AND you know what else would make this forum more credible? make only grammar nazis moderators, making it to where users with a low post count cant make threads, and more rules that are unreasonable in a forum made for a FRIKIN GAME!!!!

and yes i did read the op, so blah to you my friend

nyaa, wud u leik it if i alwz talkd leik dish, desu-ka?

1. Read 4.
2. Okay, so you believe that if SG was forced to change her default, then she would throw a temper tantrum and ragequit from the forums? And Uppercut suggesting to the Council/community something that he reasonably believes would make this forum better has nothing to do with Uppercut suddenly being granted mod-powers by a third party and banning defaults on whim.
4. Anime/manga of all kinds involves simplification or idealization/distortion of human features. See barbie dolls. Sure, some might look sexier in short skirts rather than t-shirts, but in the end they're all plastic stick-figures. You shouldn't just jump to the conclusion that Uppercut is making a hasty generalization, you don't know what genres or drawing styles of anime/manga Uppercut has been exposed to. For all we know, he has already seen what you say is "aesthetically pleasing" and still disagrees. For all we know, a majority of the population on Earth could find what you say is "aesthetically pleasing" childish or perverse.

And I think you misunderstood my weeaboo/wapanese point.
The term "wapanese" refers to people who incorrectly act "japanese" for the sake of acting japanese for the sake of fulfilling their anime/manga obsession. (the last part was hypothesized)
If I had a default of Superman, then you could reasonably assume that I either idolize Superman or am obsessed with Superman.
If I had a default of Bieber, then you could reasonably assume that I either idolize Bieber or am obsessed with Bieber.
So if anyone had a default of a manga/anime character, couldn't anyone new to the forums reasonably assume that he likes adding desu-ka's at the end of declarative sentences?

I agree, strangely, with Uppercut. Unless every anime character has a manly moustache, a ds and is from a Mario commercial.

and second of all, not all anime characters are japanese (again, refer to the GENERALIZING THING)
Anime is almost always considered 'animation originating in Japan.' Just saying.
