At first, we thought we were alone.
Then we heard the sounds. Little crawling, skittering noises that seemed so close. We could not see them in the darkness, and we were afraid.
Then our eyes adjusted, and we saw them. All that had survived whatever disaster ruined this place, it seems, were these small, stinking, nightmare looking creatures, crawling, skittering, watching. We know they can die, Space Trooper Russian was brave enough to grab one once he saw it clearly and crush it in his webbed fingers... but how can we destroy the ones we can't see?


Design
  • Cloak means the card, not the effect. Neither Ruin Roach nor Skittering Sounds can gain its buff from Skittering Sounds' effect.
  • Skittering Sounds' card text says 'Other Creatures.' This means NOT NAMED Skittering Sounds. If you have 3 Skittering Sounds and an Arctic Octopus on the middle row, only the Arctic Octopus will be invisible. Ruin Roach can be made invisible by Skittering Sounds, but will not gain its bonus.
  • Effect is removed by all the same cards which remove Cloak.
  • Easier to remove than Cloak, does not cover permanents, usually only covers 4 creatures and only for 2 turns, so although has a small creature which lingers after the effect, cost is cheaper.

As you wander through the ruins, searching for answers, you feel the looming presence of watchful eyes all around you.

There is something waiting for you in the darkness. In the abandoned buildings, in the pitch-black rooms, in alleyways shrouded in black.

But there is nothing there. Your torches illuminate only empty halls, empty rooms, empty alleys.

The only thing that surrounds you is death and decay. Things that were once alive, that now are dead. The concept of the Ancestors has long since been purged from here, but what took its place is far worse.

What looms around, what's causing that feeling, are great conceptual beasts that cannot be seen or touched. Only felt. The concept of decay itself.

The rooms may be empty, but death waits within.

There are no aliens living in the ruins. How could they? This place is a wreck. Nothing can survive here.

But that's exactly the kind of environment in which these monsters thrive. They feed off dread and decomposition. Beasts that exist purely in the conceptual plane, made not of matter but of ideas. They feed on things-that-used-to-be and things-that-once-were, and if you get close enough, if you think about them for too long, they'll feed on you, too.



Mechanically, this card doesn't affect health (ie the physical plane), but affects quanta (ie the conceptual plane).

It attacks in the same way as Black Hole - it drains 1 random quanta per point of damage that it deals. If the opponent runs out of quanta, then it begins dealing damage to their health.

Damage dealt to it is redirected to your :death pool. If you run out, all Spectres you have on the field will die.

All damage dealt to Spectres reduces your :death by the same amount. Healing does not affect them, except for Holy Light which drains 10 :death as expected.

Playing this card requires you to have your own Ancestor Ruins - ie, a lot of Death Pillars.

NOTES:
Locust skill is kinda like a combination between devourer and Gotp's obsession, in that it wastes your own quanta. It's also similar in the way that it's a passive skill and can't be lobotomized.

Spawning Locusts on your opponent's side is an interesting idea, IMO. It works as both the denial and, when paired with antimatter, a decent amount of healing (that is, if you have enough quanta).

This deck is built specifically to go against a deck that uses creatures (in keeping with the theme of the task).

Skull Bucklers and Graveyards are the main source of creature generation for yourself, although the deck does have some AoE cards as well. Once you get some Elite Skeletons you can use the Fallen Druid or the Eternity to change them into more powerful creatures.

What creatures are these? Your opponent won't know because everything is done 'under your Cloak.'

After a long and tiring day of traveling through the maze-like ruins we decided it was time to set up camp somewhere. Unsure what potential creatures could be lurking in the shadows we figure it might be a smart idea to set up a few traps to try and keep us safe. When picking a spot to set our camp, we notice a bramble of bushes and thorns and decide this could be a smart place to settle so that no potential rapid creatures will find us. The bushes bring us a slight bit of ease of safety but not enough, so we conclude that a second line of defense may be needed. We dig trenches between us and the bushes so that any creatures that are agile enough to creep past the thorned bushes fall into a pit of scorpions and spiders. Each of these sets of bugs are equipped with staggering amounts of venomous poison] to kill the threats that endanger our lives. After a long nights rest we awaken to see that no harm has come to us, and we are grateful for the traps we had set our so that we may continue our journey through the rest of the maze-like ruins.

In the deepest parts of the ocean, where no light reaches, where nightmares live, where most other living beings would quickly perish, we thrive.  Our encampment isn't so much surrounded by traps as it is our natural environment is a trap for most living beings. If they try to breach our camp walls, the dam will burst and all hell will flow over them.

The City of the Ancestors | COMBO TASK
Mapper: Your sensors tell you that in the middle of this mazelike city you find another artifact that seems to be the source of the signal. Unfortunately, because of all the buildings you can't land near it. Good thing you made a map of the place when you saw it from above while landing! Draw a map of the ruined city with some (what you think was) important structures highlighted. This task is an Artifact Task! The team that wins this task will get the Artifact! Artifacts can give you special abilities or change future tasks!
Log Keeper: In one of the strange ruined buildings highlighted on the mapper's map you find a text that explains the building's purpose in the old Ancestor society. Write the text in both its original form and its translation in Galactic Common Language (English).
(Note that only the Mapper part of this task is the Artifact Task)

SIR! SIR! ORBIT ADMIRAL! The scouts have come back with their report, and I have used their findings with the 20 mile radius of our radar scanners to present a passable assessment of our surroundings.




  • This location is facinating. The strange yellow bars are actually solar panels which extend to cover the whole of 1's area. Presumably this was to make use of the solar energy in the planet's short, but blisteringly hot Summer. Secondly, it would shade the underground reservoir from evaporating in the heat (the reservoir is now heavily polluted and swarming with Ruin Roaches.
  • This is the largest of the various impact spots, it goes incredibly deep and was presumably caused by a passing meteor shower, or industrial explosion.
  • This structure is incredible. It is a gigantic glass-like dome, but the internal structure of the glass allows light through, but not heat! It seems this was a refuge for the population during the short but brutal summers. NOTE: should we need to stay here for an extended time, I believe we could hook up our water pumps to the meteor damaged area and fill the dome with water for a larger base of operations.
  • I believe this used to be a green area, now charred and ruined. It was, however, the only flat area for hundreds of miles to mount a landing.
  • The only patch of green on the entire planet. It seems the soil is so rich that the plants grow incredibly hardy and can cope with the conditions. The area is flanked with great obelisks which seem to have names engraved, or at least unique glyphs.
  • This place is incredible. At first we thought it was some sort of religious building, it has alters and statues, but it appears to be a library, a vast, magnificent collection of texts. From a section that seemed to be focused on children's literature, we have gathered a basic understanding of the language. Our final conclusion is that it is in-fact a religious building, worshiping knowledge rather than a deity.
  • Now, try to understand this from a different culture's view. Using our basic knowledge of the language, we believe this building is a factory, used to produce liquid energy and fertiliser. I believe they liquidised their dead. It seems they held no sanctity in death whatsoever, to them a carcass was simply an inanimate object. It seems the primary focus of this corpse-crusher was to enrich the soil of 5, for produce. It's elegant if you think about it...
  • We have literally no idea what this place was supposed to be. It doesn't even have a door.

Spoiler for Supposedly Important Landmarks:

1) The largest building found within the city. It seems too large to be a house. A note was found within this building. More details below.


2) This seems to be an artifact that was built long ago. It has resisted aging quite well. It's purpose is unknown. However, it does seem to be a rather historical piece.


3) A somewhat small building, having 4 spires, seemingly to represent the colour of the orbs we found. It too, has aged decently compared to the rest of the city. It does seem to have some unknown ""magical"" energy surrounding it. Initial investigation of it has proven inefficient in determining the original use of this building.


4) This hole in the ground was scanned to reveal no lifeforms within. Further investigation of it may prove dangerous, and as such,  searches regarding this area have been halted. They will commence when we become more familiar with our immediate surroundings.


5) These are remnants of bridges that were used to connect what seemed to be plains, with the interior walls of the main cities. They were used to span over rivers, which have long since dried out.


6) These stairs are what connected the lower parts of the city to the upper parts, which were protected by a thick, black wall. They were connected to the plains, instead of the cities, for a currently unknown reason.


7) This large tower, currently known as the ""Watch Tower,"" is a building in the middle of the upper city, much taller than any other building. It may have been used to overlook the rest of the cities, hence the name. Perhaps these past lifeforms had greater eyesight than humans do, as fog and mist built up to prevent us from seeing far off the tower upon initial investigation. This building also appears to be the source of the signal.

We land on the ruined planet, ever inquisitive of what hidden secrets may lay before us.
As we exit the ship, some unknown force hits us like a tidal wave. Mr.Muffin, our mechanic and mission specialist, and I, functioning as log-keeper, and pilot, stagger back, feeling queasy. It takes a minute for our bodies to adjust themselves to this new planet’s gravitational force.
We notice that there’s some strange humming and crackling thundering in our ears. We might as well be deaf! Is it radio interference? But everything seems abandoned, overgrown. Is that antenna we saw the cause of this interference? No matter, we’ll just have to make do with hand gestures in the meantime.
As we traverse forward, I look over at DoctorC. In addition to duoing as our Mission Commander and captain, he also is Serenity’s top cartographer. He is entirely focused on charting out the area. Should we encounter a complication, this may allow future teams to pick up where we left off.
The planet seems to be abandoned. As we cross the rubble, Doctor motions for us to turn right and follow him to examine a wall of the remnants of a structure that seems different from the others. It seems to be glowing… violet? How can that be?



As we get up closer I begin examining the strange characters scribbled on the wall. Or is it just wear from the environment? Either way, I immediately get to work deciphering whatever I can make out. After spending what seems like almost an entire earth day’s worth of time I finally decipher it.


The gate is malfunctioning. Do not turn it on.
The scavengers, they came at us from the other side.
Every death is scavenged against us.
Turn back. There is no hope to be found here.
Save yourselves before they do it for you...


Uh oh, I’m not quite sure what this means, or what these ‘scavengers’ are, but if they’re still here it can’t bode well for us. I need to tell DoctorC and Muffin - wait, where did they run off to? Oh no, what if they find ‘the gate’? I have to find them before it's too late!

""Doctor? Muffin? This isn't funny!"", I call out in the hopes someone will be able to hear me over this deafening interference. Sigh... well maybe if I just turn this corner they'll be- oh...
...as I turn the corner, I see what looks to be some sort of portal. It seems to be crackling, erratically switching between an almost full portal shape with tiny holes in it and a more partial one. Meanwhile, there's some strange gas emitting from it, yet contained in a strange sphere, discoloring the air around it. This must be the gate that was mentioned in the writings! Hmm, but then it has been on the entire time we've been here. If the writings are true-Suddenly, DoctorC comes up behind me and hands me his completed map.
As I examine it I notice our landing location is marked as an X. The wall, gate, and what he later tells me is an underground passage leading to some sort of alien subway station are all marked on the map. Complete with detailed portrayals of the various walls and towers strewn throughout the city. Impressive! Hmm wait a minute... there seems to be no exit from this place other than the subway and the path we took to get here? Well, hopefully we don't run into any scavengers while we're down here...

Your first thought might be that this card is broken in that it will never work due to the 75 limiting quanta cap, and if so you are right. We wanted to bring you a card that our ancestors used, and ancient card that only could work in earlier patches of the game. Back before the quanta cap, it was easy enough to gain above 75 quanta. with this card the ancestors knew that by sacrificing a few card slots and stall a bit of time they could wait long enough blast their opponents to death with ancient knowledge and creatures.

So, Paratus (or any ship belonging to Serenity) isn't really meant for fighting, or, at least, dealing large quantities of damage. Most damaging equipment you'd find is sci-fi equivalent of scalpels and bone cutters. However, all of the Serenity ships come with a stunning (figuratively and literally) device called Preservation Ark. Preservation Ark's main function is to stun all of the instances belonging to a certain species for long enough to scientists of Serenity to locate and neutralize whatever problem they were affected by, if it was a pandemic of some kind, or, in case of an extinction threat, gather all of the stunned animals put them in a reservation of some kind.

That said, Paratus crew can also use Preservation Ark in order to stun their enemies for long enough to escape potential barrage of whatever Green Night is throwing at us.

Due to the fact that Deadly Venom, Fiery, and Vampire are actives each of them would override the precedent. Due to momentum ignoring shields, gaining momentum would effectively stop the weapon from growing any further.

I also want to clarify this again, even if it says in the task, since we had a lot of discussion about it last Brawl:
The icon that wins the Bonus task will be the one that we give the winning team as award icon at the end of Brawl. However, the artist team and/or the winning team will get a chance to make slight edits to the icon when that happens, if they want to.

And the reason Paratus has no Space Trooper task is that they did not submit any.
