Spoiler for Whispers in the Dark:

Competition: Whispers in the Dark

Listen to the whispers and race to collect cards to complete the ultimate challenge!

  • Every competitor in the game has an inventory.  At the start of the competition, each player's inventory contains unlimited pillars, and one mark of their choice.
  • "Tokens" representing various creatures, spells, permanents, pendulums, and marks will be hidden throughout the forums and wiki.  Players seek out tokens and claim them via PMing a CO the location of said token.  Finding a pendulum token gives you unlimited copies of that pendulum in your inventory.  Finding a token for a mark allows you to build decks using that mark.  Finding a token for a regular card gives you 2 copies of that card in your inventory.
  • In order to encourage creative deckbuilding, the most popular cards in grinding decks (such as Graboid, Psion, Lava Golem, Immolation, and Fractal) will be hidden in particularly challenging locations, and possibly not hidden until several days into the competition.
  • At periodic intervals, "Whispers" will be hidden or publicly revealed.  A Whisper is a hint as to where a token can be found.  Popular grinding cards will not be given whispers.
  • A player scores points by completing any of the following achievements, each of which may be achieved only once.  At every 40 point interval, the player may upgrade a single card in their inventory.  The player with the most points after 3 weeks is the winner.  In the event of a tie, the player who reached the tied score earliest is the winner.

Spoiler for Silver Ferns:
Searching For The Legendary Fern Flower

*Idea: Annele and ARTHANASIOS

PROLOGUE:

Spoiler for Some Cool Lore...:

The fern flower is a magic flower in Slavic mythology (Belarusian: папараць-кветка, Polish: kwiat paproci, Russian: цветок папоротника, Ukrainian: цвіт-папороть), in Baltic mythology (Lithuanian: paparčio žiedas, Latvian: papardes zieds) and in Estonian mythology (Estonian: sõnajalaõis).
According to the myth, this flower blooms for a very short time on the eve of the Summer solstice (celebrated on June 23 or sometimes July 7) The flower brings fortune to the person who finds it. In various versions of the tale, the fern flower brings luck, wealth, or the ability to understand animal speech. However, the flower is closely guarded by evil spirits and anyone who finds the flower will have access to earthly riches, which have never benefited anyone, so the decision to pick the flower or leave it alone is left up to the individual.
In the Estonian, Lithuanian and Latvian tradition, the fern flower is supposed to appear only on the night of 23 to 24 June during the celebration of the summer solstice which is called Jāņi in Latvia, Joninės or Rasos in Lithuania, Jaaniõhtu or Jaaniöö in Estonia and juhannus in Finland. The celebration has pre-Christian origins. Here, the fern flower is a symbol of fertility...

The Fern Masters lead this new massive non-PvP forum event, in which twelve rival teams, each one consisted of the same number of team members yet representing a different element, are going to fight their ways through riddles, hazards, challenges and evil spirits in order to reach the legendary fern flower, a magical plant known for the wealth, luck, power, influence and prosperity granting to its owner. Every human or elemental, mortal or half-blood has a reason to wish for it and some would take great risks to obtain its blessings... and curses of possessing such an artifact.

Recently, after a millenia of absence, such a Fern Flower has blossomed in a field full of ferns located on a recently discovered new plane which shine with a silver colour under an alien yet wonderfully-looking dark  sky illuminated by a bright silver sun. Moreover, this plane is located somewhere between all the twelve major elements of the universe and its respective realms, attracting equally powerful entities from both the abyssal caves of Darkness and the white clouds of Light or the deepest depths of Water oceans and the lava pits of Fire.

Unfortunately, any elementals traveling to the silver plains are not just going to have deal with other greedy members of their lot but a ton of other harards, like the ancient evil spirits of unknown origin that were lured into the plains by the irresistible magnitude of the Fern Flower's own existence.

Those elementals are you, my dear players. Good luck... in surviving this challenge...!

BASIC RULES:

* This forum events goes in turns (each turn last for as much as a day or a week or whatever amount of time is decided by the Fern Masters, but it must be at least 24 hours in order to give enough time to the various teams to send their answers & decisions, read below for more info).

* Each turn, the team leader (or another member) sends a PM to the Fern Masters which must have the following format...

Spoiler for format:
Code: [Select]

Warning: If the above field is not filled correctly (with the exception of Answer#1 and Answer#2) the Fern Masters have the right to penalize that team via any means he/she views as appropriate. Every team has the right to send only one PM per round, so you must be sure you have made the right decision.

Now, let's view each field seperatedly, shall we? ;)

Team:

Each team has the name of its element (Team Aether for the participants of :aether, Team Air for the players of :air, Team Darkness for the followers of :darkness etc.), so there are up to 12 teams in this event.
The Masters of each element are the first choice for leading their team, but if they decide to not participate, they can chose their replacement or allow the Fern Masters to chose from the applicants. The rest of the teams are assigned randomly; anyone wanting to participate with PM the Fern Masters and they will assort them into teams. In the case of an uneven number of people, the people who applied first get first priority, and the ones who applied later become subs, or a team or few that are NOT being led by their masters will be cut, to allow everyone to be involved.

Each team, at the start of this event, begins from step 0 (read below for analytical description of steps) and starts with 100 Health, 0 Quanta, a Small Shield and a Small Weapon (see below). The team is also encouraged to discuss about their next move with each other to make sure everyone agrees with the team's decision and a single member of the team sends the PM (there is NO NEED for any single member to submit the PM, just one time is enough).

Step:

Steps are the most critical part of the game, since they reveal how many steps stand between your team and your lovely prize (the Fern Flower) as well as describing any encounters of this turn. Every team goes according to the following step's board:

STEP 0: Riddle #1, Riddle #2
STEP 1: Riddle #1, Riddle #2, Shopkeeper
STEP 2: Riddle #1, Riddle #2, Evil Spirit, Healer
STEP 3: Riddle #1, Riddle #2, Explosion, Shopkeeper
STEP 4: Riddle #1, Riddle #2, Evil Spirit, Shield
STEP 5: Riddle #1, Riddle #2, Explosion, Healer
STEP 6: Riddle #1, Riddle #2, Evil Spirit, Weapon, Shield
STEP 7: Riddle #1, Riddle #2, Evil Spirit, Evil Spirit, Healer
STEP 8: Riddle #1, Riddle #2, Explosion, Explosion, Shopkeeper
STEP 9: Riddle #1, Riddle #2, Evil Spirit, Evil Spirit, Explosion
STEP 10:The Fern Flower (Victory!!!)

(Warning: The above table is very important, so it would be good, for each participant of this event, to copy/paste it and save it somewhere.)

* Each encounter mentioned in the step is executed in the beginning of each turn, before the team decides what to do. That means it is still possible to have a weapon or shield of yours being deflagged by an Explosion encounter and buy a new one from a Shopkeeper at the same turn.
* Each team PMs its next move as "forward" (+1 step positioning), "backwards" (-1 step positioning) or "immobility" (no change of positioning, useful for getting healed by a Healer for more than a turn etc.).

Encounters:

The encounters can be the following:

Riddle #1:
There are a lot of those strange creatures roaming the silver plane known as Sphynxs. They love riddles; if you guess correctly, they reward you with Quanta. But if you fail, they drain your life force!
* This encounter always appears at every step. The Fern Masters PM a riddle they invented to every team leader (the riddle must be the same for every team, despite each team's position on the Steps Board). The riddle can be anything from a crossword to a jigsaw puzzle; it is just limited by the imagination of the Fern Masters.
* Each team submits the answer of this riddle as Riddle #1. If the answer is correct, the team gains 5 Quanta. if the answer is wrong or not submitted at all, the team takes 15 damage (this amount is reduced by its health).

Riddle #2:
"If you can't solve my easy riddle, how can you even stand a chance to my hard one, follish elemental?", says the Sphinx in a nasty voice.

* This encounter, much like Riddle #1, appears at every step. The Fern Masters PM a riddle they invented to the leader of every team (the riddle must be the same for every team, despite each team's position on the Steps Board) which must be relatively more difficult than Riddle #1 of the same turn. The riddle can be anything from a crossword to a jigsaw puzzle; it is just limited by the imagination of the Fern Master.
* Each team submits the answer of this riddle as Riddle #2. If the answer is correct, the team gains 10 Quanta. if the answer is wrong or not submitted at all, the team takes 25 damage (this amount is reduced by its health).

Spoiler for example riddle:

Obviously, the riddles will be much harder than this.

The riddles will be revealed at the end of each round, along with each team's points. They are not revealed before this because it is up to the teams to work out the riddles themselves.

Shopkeeper:
Some greedy elementals found an opportunity for profit from this crazy treasure hunt. Why to risk their lives for the Fern Flower's vast riches when they can hoard tons of wealth by offering services to adventuring elementals? Beware, though. They do not demand Electrum for their items, but something far more precious. Quanta!
A team that begins its turn to a step with a Shopkeeper may perform one of the following actions (which, of course, must be mentioned at the PM to the Fern Masters).
*BUY: The team buys a Weapon, a Shield or both. In order to purchase such an item, the team must not possess an item of the same type (in other words, a team may posses only a single weapon and a single shield at a time) and it must be able to pay the amount of Quanta needed for its purchase. The weapons are the following:

Small Weapon (cost: 15 Quanta)A Small Weapon helps at dealing +10 damage against an Evil Spirit.
Medium Weapon (cost: 25 Quanta)A Medium Weapon helps at dealing +20 damage against an Evil Spirit.
Large Weapon (cost: 35 Quanta)A Large Weapon helps at dealing +30 damage against an Evil Spirit.

...and the Shields are the following:

Small Shield (cost: 20)A Small Shield helps at blocking +10 damage against an Evil Spirit.
Medium Shield (cost: 30)A Medium Shield helps at blocking +20 damage against an Evil Spirit.
Large Shield (cost: 40)A Large Shield helps at blocking +30 damage against an Evil Spirit.

Also, a team may buy a Potion (which will be consumed instantly) to gain one of the following benefits:

Healing Potion (cost: 40)Your team gains +20 Health.
Immaterial Potion (cost: 100)Prevent the next Explosion you encounter from harming your Weapon/Shield.
Holy Potion (cost: 150)Auto-win the next Evil Spirit you encounter.

*SELL: The team can sell the Weapon or the Shield in its possession and will gain its full value of Quanta. However, you CAN'T buy a weapon/shield at the same turn you sell one and vice versa.

Explosion:
The field of the silver ferns is full of hidden explosive traps. The most intriguin fact is that these traps weren't placed from the evil wandering Spirits or the Sphinxs, but from the hostile greedy elementals in order to hamper any rivals of theirs who stayed behind. However, it is not unlikely these traps were invented by the shopkeepers themselves in order to increase their sell rates of weapons & shields! It is a hard bussiness indeed...

When a team encounters an Explosion, if they hold a Weapon it is destroyed. If they do not hold a weapon, their Shield is destroyed instead. If they hold neither a Weapon nor a Shield, nothing happens. If more than an Explosion encounter occurs, BOTH apply (meaning it is possible for a team to lose both their Weapon & Shield at a single turn).

Healer:
There are some spirits in the silver ferns' plane that act as the nemesis of the Evil Spirits. Though they won't engage any Evil Spirits directly, they are eager to heal any wounded elementals to keep them fighting the Evil ones! These spirits are known as Healers...

A team starting its turn in a Healer encounter recovers 10 Health. Though it is not a lot, every little bit helps and a team may choose to stay in such a step for more than one turn just to recover any serious damage taken during previous turns.

Weapon/Shield:
Since the arrival of adventuring elementals, the silver plain has become a constant battlefield; the carnage is leaving behind piles of the equipment of the fallen...

A team starting its turn on a step with a "Weapon" or "Shield" encounter can immediately take in their possession a Small Weapon or a Small Shield respectively. Useful if you lack any weapon or any shield respectively, though it will surely come in handy, you know, with all these explosions lurking around...

Evil Spirit:
It is not known if these foul entities were once the rightful denizers and owners. What it is known is their permanent hostility against anything that may cross their path. Beware! The closest you get to the Fern Flower, the more powerful they become!

* Evil Spirits are the only creatures you really fight with (and at this point your Shield and Weapon comes in very handy).
* If a team encounters an Evil Spirit, the spirit attempts to deal damage to it. Its damage is equal to 10+(Step's number x 5)-(Team's Shield Modifier)-(Team's Weapon Modifier), so an Evil Spirit who lurks at Step 4 will deal 10+(4x5)-10-10=10 damage against a team carrying a Small Weapon and a Small Shield. Any negative damage counts as zero damage (so the team isn't acutally healed if blocks more than enough damage).
* If more than an Evil Spirit is encountered, both Evil Spirits attempt to damage the team, one after another.

Challenges:

* Once a turn, a team can challenge a rival team at a riddle contest (however, the challenged team must be at exactly the SAME step with its challenger and no challenges may occur at the first 3 steps).
* The challenger must post the challenge at the corresponding topic. The challenged team can deny the challenge at the cost of 10 Quanta and 10 Health. If accepted, the winning team gains 45 Quanta while the losing team loses 15 Quanta and 20 Health. In case of a draw, nothing happens.
* The challenge is like a Riddle but, this time, the Fern Masters will have to create a riddle for only the 2 involved teams. Once again, it is up to the limitless imagination of the Fern Masters to come up with something both fair and challenging.
* There is no limit at the number of challenges a team may send or deny, however a team can't send a challenge 2 turns in a row (but it can deny as many challenges in a row as it wants).

Winning & Losing:

* A team dropping to zero Health (or below) is considered defeated and leaves the event.
* The first team that reaches the Fern Flower is the winner.
* If more than a single team reaches the Fern Flower at the same turn, a challenge must be set between all the teams within the last Step (every team that hasn't reached the Fern Flower by now is considered defeated and leaves the game). The team(s) who fail to answer the challenge's riddle correctly are dropped from the event. If after the challenge there is still a tie, the challenge is repeated (with a different riddle this time) till only one team remains (or both fail at the same time, in which case the whole event is considered a draw!).

* The winning team must select between the following options:
1) Earthly riches: Each team member is going to recieve a small 16x16 electrum award forum icon ( :electrum) and a 1,000 Electrum code prize.
2) Denial of earthly riches: If the winning team choose this path, its members aren't going to win any Electrum codes, but instead of gaining a small unoriginal forum icon, they are going to recieve a reward code for in-game prosperity, and a big 32x32 Fern Flower award icon:

Spoiler for alternative rules:
Alternative Rules:

The Fern Masters may want to alter the rules in any way they see fit, like changing any Shopkeeper prices (too low or too high), adding new Shopkeeper items for purchase (like more kinds of potions), doing any balancing (e.g. Evil Spirits are too weak/strong, must be buffed/nerfed accordingly etc.). Moreover, a few more suggestions are represented below:

1) 2Dimensional field:

A two-dimensional field should allow not just forward/ backward/ immobility movement types, but north/ northeast/ east/ southeast/ south/ southwest/ west/ northwest/ immobility movement types. steps should be need an additional letter to describe them (e.g. Step 3b instead of just Step 3), movement would be more complicated with far more routes to the final destination and Evil Spirits should become more powerful according to a different formula than just each Step's number. Furthermore, challenges are going to be much rarer since it wouldn't be easy for 2 teams to be at the same space at the same time, making a rule like "you can challenge any team adjactent to your Step" a neccesity.

2) Helmets & Gauntlets:

If a rule like this is enabled, if a team encounters a shopkeeper, it would be possible to buy more types of armor. A Helmet should possibly cost something like a Medium Shield and provide protection like a small one; same goes with Gauntlets which should cost like Medium Weapons and provide a Small Weapon modifier. However, more pieces of armor possibly means more protection versus Explosions and Evil Spirits, so a different Explosion priority (something like "Explosion hurts Helmets first, Shields second, Greaves third and Weapons fourth") or even an increase of Evil Spirit's damage dealing ability (e.g. Step's number x10 instead of x5) are needed.

3) Steals:

If there is an Explosion and an Evil Spirit at the same Step, instead of Explosions, there could be Steals. The Evil Spirit steals the team's Weapon/Shield, using its modifier to its advantage. However, this could increase the difficulty dramatically, so an Evil Spirit nerf ought to be done in here...

Spoiler for Death Dost Dominate:

Dominated by Death
Original idea by: rob77dp & the dictator   |   Developed by: Brawl #3's Death Dost Dominate
Art by: DuBoix (Source-File License)   |   Organized by: N/A

Players battle AI with player-created/finished decks to show their in-game creature-killing skill.

1. HOW TO SIGN UP?
Anyone with a forum and a chat account can sign up for this event. Start by reading the rules very carefully. Then sign up by posting on a separate sign up topic. If you cannot find a sign up topic, or if it is locked, this event is not currently active, and you will have to wait for it to restart.  You may sign up as a team of two or solo-entrant (to be assigned a team later).

There is no participant maximum for this event.

Late sign-ups are not accepted for this event.

2. GAME PLAY
Each round will begin with CO(s) posting deck-requirements for that round.  The requirements will vary every round and be similar but not limited to card combinations, Element groups, skeleton deck-builds, upgraded/un-upgraded, banned card lists, etc. (or combinations of these and other options).  Each team submits one recorded/screenshots-taken duel every round.

Also, the opposing deck for use against the players will be as determined and posted by the CO(s).  This may include AI3 or FG type settings of the trainer-AI.

*Note*
This competition takes place using the Elements Trainer (Link to trainer).

3. DUELS
Duels are performed against the CO-specified AI deck in Trainer.  It is highly recommended that players record duels.  This limits the chances of claims of abuse or cheating and helps prevent the temptation to cheat.  As always, any player caught cheating in this event faces a permanent ban from the forum and related events.  Lacking the ability to record, screenshots - as many as needed for achievement proof - are minimally required and it is the discretion of the CO(s) for considering submitted images/videos as sufficient proof of achievement.

1. Go to Elements Trainer.

2. Load the desired deck for team use.

3. Load AI deck and settings per round requirements.

4. Record the duel or take screenshots through-out.

5. Prior to end of each round, submit the team's final submission (optional to include your own count of creatures killed).

4. AFTER DUELS
Per Rule item 4.5, each team must submit their chosen duel-result via forum PM to CO(s).  Please copy all (if more than one) CO(s) on your submissions!

5. WINNER
After the final round (prior to official start of event, CO(s) will determine and post how many rounds will be completed in this event), CO(s) will determine a winner based on total number of creature-deaths generated by the teams inclusive of all rounds.

CO(s) will maintain standings between each round during the event for player-reference purposes only.  The final result is official and all intermediate standings are subject to error, correction, and unintentional inaccuracies.

6. REWARDS
The winner of the event will receive a forum award icon:

Spoiler for Cuckoo's Nest:
Cuckoos and Damselflies - Rules
In this event, players will try their best to survive the every day struggle of birds.

2. Setup
The gridlike playfield will have a size depending on the ammount of participants. There will be in average 2-4 fields per player. This makes the grid N x N, with N = 2*root(#participants); round down.
Each player will be assigned a Bird, randomly placed on the field (never 2 Birds in the same Field). Birds are either male or female (around 50:50 for each species). Species can be Cuckoo or Damselfly, which totally is a bird (around 40:60; Cuckoo:Damselfly).
The playfield has initially no Nests but plenty food. (Berry Bush for 10 Food, dropped Nut for 1 Food or whatever the Organizer will think of). Food doesn't regrow.
The initial field will be visible for everyone, excluding the starting positions of the Birds. There will never be an update posted to this field. Players will initially not know who is what species or gender (except for his/her own).

3. Turn progress
Each turn, players send their movements and actions to the organizer, if by the deadline you didn't send in a movement or action, the bird will sleep that turn and won't see what's going on.
Movement can be 2 spaces. (1 if the bird starts to starve)

At the end of each turn, every bird will get hungry+1. When it reaches hungry 2 or higher, the bird will automaticall eat whatever it finds (order of Food location to be eaten: ground, carrying, nest) and gets hungry-2. If it doesn't find food, it starts to starve and can only move at half the pace. When it reaches hungry 4, the bird dies. Moreover, after a number of turns (decided by the organizers) the birds will die of old age.

Actions depend on the species and can be seen in the according section; Only 1 action allowed per turn. Eating is not an action.

4. Damselfly
 - Can build a Nest (action: Build Nest; costs a whole turn; can't move) [can have more than 1 Nest with Eggs and Hatchlings]
 - When in a Nest, can breed if there is male+female Damselfly present. see Nest part for more information. (action: Breed; must be done by both)
 - Can survey the area and see what's inside the fields around his current field. (action: Look Around; will see Birds (Player, Food, Species, Gender), Nests, Food)
 - Can NOT attack.
 - Can collect Food (females can carry 1, males can carry 2). (action: Collect Food, always collected from ground)
 - Can drop Food in a Nest (action: drop food)
 - Can protect the Nest from Cuckoos (action: protect) [it's like doing nothing but not falling asleep]

5. Cuckoo
 - When in a Nest, can breed if there is male+female Cuckoo present. see Nest part for more information. (action: Breed; must be done by both)
 - Can survey the area and see what's inside the fields around his current field. (action: Look Around; will see Birds (Player, Food, Species, Gender), Nests, Food)
 - When attacking, can destroy Nest/Eggs/Hatchlings (action: attack, current field, including possible stuff to destroy)
 - Can collect Food (females can carry 1, males can carry 2). (action: Collect Food, always collected from ground)
 - Can drop Food in a Nest (action: drop food)
 - Can protect the Nest from different Cuckoos (action: protect) [it's like doing nothing but not falling asleep]

6. Nest
 - Can only be built by Damselflys.
 - Can store up to 6 Food
 - Can't be placed in a Field where there is already a Nest or Food on the ground.
 - Can store up to 2 Eggs or Hatchlings.

When 2 Damselflys breed, 2 Eggs will be placed into the Nest. These Eggs will hatch after 3 turns into hatchlings. Hatchlings will need each 1 food per turn and will mature after 3 turns. When a hatchling matures, its parents can choose to take over the control of them (parent will die) or give it to another Damselfly that dies this turn to take it over (doesn't work if it died in a previous turn). If the parent didn't take control but no Damselfly died this turn, the hatchling dies.

When 2 Cuckoos breed, 2 Cuckoo Eggs will be placed into the Nest (only possible if there is no awake Damselfly or protecting Cuckoo parent present). If there were Eggs there, they will be destroyed and the Cuckoo Eggs will hatch at the same time as the destroyed Eggs would have hatched. The owner of those Egg won't be notified.
If there were hatchlings, they are killed.
The hatchlings grow just like for the Damselfly, but when they mature, the Cuckoo parents get the choice whether gain control of them or share with a Cuckoo who dies this turn.

It is possible that a player drops out of the event (Bird dies), but comes back in a couple turns later when one of his hatchlings mature. The hatchlings always have age 0.

7. Fight
When one or more birds use the action Fight, all Cuckoos will fight vs. all Damselflys in that field.
The winning team will be the species with more participants in the fight.
If that is equal, females will be stronger than males.
If that is equal, it is a draw and no one will claim the winning bonus.

Every participant in the fight gets hungry+1.
The losing party will be sleeping for 1 turn and won't see what's going on.
The winning party will steal all the Food from the losing party. (if they can't carry all, it's dropped on the ground)
Additionaly, if the fight happened in a nest and the cuckoos won, they can destroy the eggs, hatchlings, steal food or destroy the whole nest (the one starting the fight has to write what to destroy when he sends in the action to attack. If that is more than one, everything that was written will be done)

If only one party is available, the attack doesn't happen.

8. Sharing Information
It is allowed and for success also required for the birds to share their information. This can be done in public per writing into the according thread, per PM or whatever medium you prefer.
However dead birds may not share their information since dead birds chirp no notes.

9. Winner
Winner of this event are the last two Birds being alive.
(If less than 2 Birds qualify for this, every Bird gets hunger-1 and the game is continued. If this doesn't solve the problem [too many die by old age], then the Organizer may decide what to do.)

Spoiler for Divine Light:

How to shine like a Morning Star!!

An event for noobs who are supposed to be trained to be better forum members with the help of a mentor.

Dear Newbies, don't be shy, finally it's an event for you! Let your creativity shine with the luminescent brilliance of Divine Light! If you're willing to join the ranks of respected community members like ddevans96 and OldTrees then you'll have to be active and put much work into the forums. Don't let that daunt you, you now have an opportunity to become friends with great people like them.

Dear Veterans, don't hide your Light, you won't be left out! Like a good guide, illuminate newbies with your profound knowledge about card mechanics, deckbuilding and, above all, help them become active members of our community.

RULES

Separate rules, one for our wonderful newbies and the other for our lovely veterans.

For newbies:
- To qualify as a newbie you must have under one hundred forum posts and have joined the forums no more than three months ago at the time of signing up. (And don't even  think about trying to lie about your forum age, this is the internet, we don't do that here.)
- You will be responsible for most of the work when it comes to card and deck building. Your mentor is  just suppose to help you, not do the work. You've got to come up with the idea and mechanic.Your mentor will simply help balance and iron it out.
- Be sure to be active! We can't run an event like this without your co-operation.

For veterans:
- To qualify as a vet, you have to be at least a Senior Member and have joined the forums no less than 6 months ago at the time of signing up.
- DO NOT do the work for your newbie, only help with  balancing and stuff they aren't really familiar with yet. And encourage them to go and learn. You're a teacher, so teach.
- Be sure to be active! (or we'll definitely have Higs permaban you.)

Sign-Ups

The process which allows people to actually do something in the event.

A sign up thread will be posted sometime soon. Over there people may post to show their willingness in joining. Once sign-ups are closed, Newbies and Veterans will be teamed up. In case of a surplus of Vets, the vets with higher post count will be considered to have higher priority. In case of a surplus of Newbies, more vets will be brought in.

Tasks

The things that make events not just a bunch of people standing around

Task 1: Card Design
Make a card, any card, any element, any type with any mechanic, so long as it is original and will be debated.

Task 2: Deckbuilding
Build a deck, any deck as long as it's unupped. Do try to be somewhat original. It has to be able to at least farm AI 3 with regular wins and it cannot have more than 3 rare cards, it has to be shardless and without nymphs.

Task 3: Forum Expertise
Make 10 valuable posts in the forums. A maximum of 5 posts from a single section and 2 posts from a single topic will count towards this.

Voting

The thing that makes events winnable.

Our wonderful newbies will have 10 days to finish each task. Once they've done so, they'll PM the details to the Organizers. At the end of the round organizers will make a pretty poll and you guys can vote on your favorites. Every vote you recieve will add a point to your score. An expert panel will also sit around, with each expert having a vote worth two points. At the end of the event, all points will be talllied and the person with the most points wins!
We might have a secret and speacial tie-breaker round in case of a tie in the scores.

Rewards:

The things people participate in Events for.

For newbies: Forum Icon and a comfy place in the community.
For veterans: Forum Icon and pleasant warmth in your heart from the feeling that you did something good for the community, especially for newcomers.

Spoiler for Divine Light:
Hero / Champion
Heroes and Champions are glorious warriors blessed by the Light. Only their presence in the battlefield can raise spirits, inspire courage and push the allies to go beyond their own ability, even at the cost of their life.
By tapping into their inner fire, they can surround themselves with an aura of fervor increasing the offensive capabilities of all allies.

The skill last only the turn is used, and affects only allied creatures, not the hero/champion.

Spoiler for Cuckoo's Nest:
Creeping Shadow | Stalking Shadow
So this critter of ours has  not one but two off element abilities.  Immaterial should be fairly  obvious, it's pretty hard to destroy a shadow.  You can't even hit it,  you just hit the thing it is being projected onto.  Why momentum?  Well  putting something in the way doesn't exactly stop a shadow either, it  just changes its shape, so putting a shield between you and the shadow  isn't going to do you any good!

Spoiler for Death Dost Dominate:

Reincarnation | Reincarnation

The "exhume" ability is this:

The reincarnate ability does the following: When the creature dies, it turns into a burrowed skeleton (with 0 attack), with the skill  Exhume: Replace the creature with the original version of the creature that died. The reincarnate passive does carry over between reincarnation.

While this is a mechanic that makes way more sense as a :life card (and it mimics a :fire card), we instead flavored it as a :death card with an :earth ability cost.

It is more cumbersome than quint, but opens up different possibilities (fire shield, armagio).

Reincarnation on Wikipedia

Spoiler for Silver Ferns:
Hurricane | Typhoon
Pretty clearly an Air card due to name/effect, it picks up and destroys creatures that aren't heavy enough. However, mechanically, this would affect practically all of Air's creatures, making it a terrible fit for almost any Air deck. It's a paradox-version of RoF, so I matched their costs. It has potential to do a lot more but is also pretty useless against massive swarms of Scarabs/Photons, ironic for a mass sweeper.

Spoiler for Whispers in the Dark:
Megalodon | Megalodon
Megalodon was a giant  prehistoric shark, so it fits right into water. But then the card uses  death effects, which is a mechanic not used in Water. Also, water's CC  is very stall-ish (Congeal, Squid, Flayer) as opposed to actually  killing creatures, limiting in element synergy. Megalodon deals damage  equal to its current attack. If there are multiple Megalodons, they all  attack, even if on opposite sides of the field. Cannot target immaterial  or buried creatures. Megalodon kills cannot cause a chain reaction,  even with other copies. Sharks can target other sharks on either field.

Spoiler for Silver Ferns:
Silver Ferns
Description
How the deck works should be simple enough: you put down your creatures, ensuring at least one Rustler and your Frogs with Mitosis are under Foliage if you suspect creature control. Use Luciferin when you have a bunch (2+ without Mitosis ability) of frogs to have enough :light to keep producing even more.

Thematically: the fern is a plant that grows using photosynthesis (Rustler) and mitosis (Mitosis) while providing foliage (Foliage) for critters (Horned Frog) to take shelter underneath. But it is not just any fern: it is a silver fern! Glowing with a soft light (Luciferin) with cutting edge -much like a sword (Morning Star)- leaves of silver, while solid like a shield (Solar Shield).

Spoiler for Cuckoo's Nest:
Deck: The Damselfly's Nest

The Card picked from CIA is this:
http://elementscommunity.org/forum/level-3-armory/fragile-delivery-delivery/

Quote from: totally legit quote from Wikipedia
A female Cuckoo will Deliver its eggs into the nest of another bird, in this example, we have the nest of a Damselfly.
The Cuckoo's egg will hatch much faster than the other bird's eggs due to the natural fertilizer called Shard of Readyness. When the Cuckoo hatches, it will use its not yet upgraded magic power to Shockwave the other eggs out of the nest.
The Cuckoo needs to do so, because it will grow often much bigger than the other bird and needs all the Quanta Food it can get, symbolised by the Scarab's never ending hunger.

Spoiler for Divine Light:
Divine Force
Spoiler for table:
Description
The combo of RoLs and Unicorns together with the Light Pillars and Solar Shields will allow you to generate lots of quanta while dealing some damage too. That's when you drop the heavy hitters. The Paladins together with Gravity Mark will in no time become a strong, unstoppable force thanks to their abilities. All the quanta generated with your cards will help Light Beam to also become a heavy hitter, allowing you to quickly overpower your opponent.

In-game cardSchrӧdinger's Catx5
In-game cardRetrovirusx2
In-game cardDeadly Poisonx5
In-game CardArsenicx2
In-game cardBone Wallx4
In-game cardSoul Catcherx5

Description
Quantum Pillar = Biomass Refiner
Dagger = Necrosis

Play Soul Catchers (1st turn if you suspect opponent will use Immo or any first-turn death effects; otherwise wait until first Cat is summoned to avoid PC on the Catchers).  Play Cat on 2nd turn (with quanta from Mark first turn).  After this, it is about balancing which :death card(s) to play in which order with the quanta generated from Cat ability.

Generally, play order would focus on some early damage (Arsenic or a couple D Poisons).  The healing Refiners can be played after you have taken damage and interlaced with playing of time-delayed killing/deaths from Retro's (Cat will heal 6 per Refiner on table with ability activation).

In the case where CC has eliminated or rendered the Cat's dead or un-usable, use caution in your Death quanta and plan to deploy Poison counters on opponent for a late-game Bone Wall to provide about 1 or 2 turns of delay to sneak in a kill despite disruption of main Cat-death-ability tactics.

For countering healing decks/stalls, you need only draw one of the two Necrosis to allow Poison to pull down HP and Max HP simultaneously (healing cannot fill a HP bar that has no head-space available)!

Spoiler for Whispers in the Dark:

Deck: 7 obsidian towers, 7 darkness pendulums, 2 improved steals, 1 vampire dagger, 4 squids, 5 shadowblades, 3 sirens , 1 eclipse .  Water Mark

Description:

This deck uses 3 cards from the armory! The Shadowblade, bold leader of the everlasting shroud of darkness, uses both of his deadly blades under the protection of Darkness and fear. Next, we summon the Siren, who whispers her way to victory and bends the will of any creature we desire, compelling her victims to attack their own masters. Finally, the squid provides infinite shelter for our twilight soldiers to decimate our foes, cloaking our shadowblades so that they might strike more swiftly still, like whispers from the darkness.

The combination is consistent, fast and pretty effective!

--"Hey, you gotta prove that, dude"

--"Oh sure, I will!"

Spoiler for proof:
Spoiler for images:

Tested in Openetg (with slight modifications).

Test results: First, the combinations works harmoniously. Squids can generate esentially infinite Cloaks, allowng shadowblades to inflict ~20-40 damage per turn. It can overwhelm and destroy the opponent quite quickly if left unchecked. Cloaks, in addition to doubling shadowblades' attacks, also add an extra layer of defence to the creatures used. Siren's ability is quite useful, as extra damage is always welcome, and in combination with steals, they make the deck even faster. Eclipse's attack bonus is quadrupled on Shadowblades, and their weakness to enemy CC-inducing shields is covered by Sirens ability, which uses CC shields against their own creatures. All in all, the concept of the deck is complete and quick destruction!

Spoiler for Silver Ferns:
“Very impressive,” remarked an attractive woman in a long coat wearing black-framed glasses, “congratulations on your victory.”
The latest applicant to the College of Elements just claimed his fifth straight victory. Before being considered for admission into the prestigious institution, all applicants are required to win a best-of-five series against level two opponents. Most fail to win three, having just barely mustered the most rudimentary deck of their chosen element. Winning all five was a rare accomplishment.
“It was mostly luck,” came the modest response.
“Hardly,” a sly grin curled the corners of the recruiting agent’s lips, “that last opponent was a bona-fide Elder. It takes more than dumb luck to best any of them.”
   “But I thought…”
“You’d only face level twos?” The woman’s eyebrows raised above the onyx-colored rims. Her eyes met his briefly before making a full assessment of him from head to toe. “Come with me, we’ve a special welcome for applicants of your caliber.”
His mind raced with possibilities as he was escorted to one of the College’s transports. In close quarters, the woman’s scent became more prevalent, and he began to sweat with mixed excitement and unease. Was he going to be rewarded for an outstanding first impression… or was he in real danger?

Once on the College grounds, the driver continued past the main building until they reached a lake. Its placid surface was just catching the last rays of the setting sun.
“We call this place the Lounge,” the agent explained as they stepped out of the vehicle. “It’s where a select few are invited to unwind and share their day’s experience.”
The man at the door nodded as the agent escorted the young applicant through to a dimly lit interior filled with soft music and a multitude of partial conversations.
“…don’t know what I’d do without my mono-Aether deck, it was my first choice and has rarely failed me ever since.”
“…then I said to him, ‘really? More basilisk blood? If I get any bigger even that catapult won’t lift me.’ Haha.”
“…cling to life. Every moment is an opportunity to savor or squander.”
Finally they reached the rear of the building, where the agent pulled back a thick curtain and showed her guest into private quarters.
“What did you bring me…” he turned around to see the long coat sliding down the woman’s back and onto the floor. She caught his stare and moved closer.
“As I said… a special welcome,” her words accompanied by a graceful hand slipping beneath the trim of her blouse, the soft voluptuous curve of her bosom accentuated as she leaned toward him. His jaw dropped open, standing transfixed in wide-eyed disbelief, but not on her – he hardly noticed anything about her – it was on what she held in her outstretched hand.
There was no mistaking it: the razor sharp edges, high glossy sheen, and the finely stenciled black lettering – his first Upped card.
“Do you happen to have five more just like it?”

Spoiler for Whispers in the Dark:
Stained  bloodline

When the nightfall comes, shadows getting thicker. When the 'Greats' are fighting, lesser elementals have to hide or fight with them. But now, none of these are revelant...

In the darkest hours, there's an entity wandering around. Rays of Light make her easy to find in this place. A forming shade, like a creeper, drains out life from the Rays one by one."There's no Hope for defending yourself now..."He grabs her wrist rapidly, then slowly slides his hand down until their palms meet. The dark entity moves close enough, it's breath flows under her clothes. Sounds can be heard only by her.

"Are you going somewhere without me, Lumiosa?"She can't see what's behind her, but doesn't have anything to fear. She knows his touch well. When notices what's Shaderic is up to, her face turns red and asks back."Are you happy to see me?"

"Shouldn't I be?"In a toneless voice, hiding emotions in his hands and fingers. He wraps the other hand on her thigh and lands a precise a kiss on her neck. Placing his nose there, he calmly asks."I left this there, could you keep this and some other copy for me for a while? Up to eight if nothing else is in my mind."

Placing his head on her neck, Shad looks down and likes the sight what comes to his eyes. Lumiosa's strength seems to fade away, deeply paralyzed by his words, leaving her senses to lead the way forward.

~So, you want me to hold you...~

The lapping hand, waiting not too long, starts the sweetly fiendish plan and gently slips to more sensitive areas. Lumiosa's breathing becomes faster. Feeling wide open to Shad's will, she wants to slow him down but can't. Complete Silence echoes around. Even the cold ground can't control her inner heat and the cloak of Shad just keeps raising it. Nothing can be seen or sensed around them. Nothing, except whispers in the dark...  [MATURE CONTENT: To continue, please verify you are aged 18 or over by clicking here]

Spoiler for Divine Light:
Anje hovered a feet above the ground, and still the rhythmic beat of her feet made sounds with the rocky soil. Why is he taking this long? Seriously, has all the fire and divinity blinded him or something? After all those millennia of waiting at my feet, you’d think he’d have grown a bit more time-sense! He’s so not right for this... She trailed off, having seen a sudden flurry of movement. A Rustler poked its head out, one of its branches dangling beside it. “Poor thing,” Anje sympathized, “Let me patch you up.” With a simple wave of her hand, the branch was back to normal.

The Rustler looked at her with grateful eyes, but after a moment scampered off with sudden terror. Anje sighed; she knew the cause of the poor beast’s terror. Slowly, she turned to find herself staring into Seraf’s blazing red eyes. “You’re late,” Anje mouthed coldly; “Don’t they teach you to tell the time at the Divine Palaces anymore?”

Seraf smiled, the fire in his eyes starting to cool. “Don’t worry, I’m here now. And…”

“Don’t worry?” Anje started, “The fact that you’re here is why I should be worried.”

“But why, darling!” Seraf smirked, his eyes starting to blaze up once more, “I am the perfect one for you. I’m so hot; I set fire to the earth. I shall ignite your radiance and…”

“Oh please. Your half literate droning would give anyone a headache. Seriously Seraf, you must let me go-” The rest of her words were muffled as Seraf pulled her in close, leaving a kiss on her lips. She could feel his heat surging into herself; feel his hand as it slithered up her hips…

“Enough!!” Anje’s voice echoed across the clearing. Seraf crouched, mouthing something like “Father, I’m scared.”

Suddenly, Anje’s vision grew blurred. She coughed, “Where’s all this smoke coming from?” As she searched with reddened eyes, she found the source to be Seraf’s groin. What had just went on there, she didn’t dare imagine.

“I peed my robe!” Seraf whined, much to Anje’s amusement, “What’s come over you, Anje? You seem aggressive all of a sudden. What has come over you?”

“It’s an upgrade, you understand, you stupid piece of burning junk?” Anje shrilled, unable to control her laughter, “Looks like Father doesn’t love you enough anymore, huh?”

Seraf started grinning stupidly; apparently only the word love had gotten through. “So you do love me, huh? Come on baby, let’s do it!”

Anje burst out into uncontrollable laughter. “Seriously Seraf, you are stupid! Didn’t you know there are no secret rooms in Heaven? Did you actually think we’d be able to do it, ever?”

Seraf still couldn’t understand; his blank expression was making Anje cry with laughter. She resisted the urge to make fun of her superior, and decided it was time to leave. “Goodbye Seraf! Maybe one day you’ll grow a pair!” She laughed as she hovered on towards Divinity.

Spoiler for Cuckoo's Nest:
When I was on a business trip, my Gravity friend invited me to a bar. “The girls are all stunning,” he said. So we went to a bar named “Amber Beauty”. The smell of sulfur was unfamiliar to my nose, but I must admit, the bar was quite good. My friend led me to a table on the corner of the bar, and ordered us Otyugh juice.

“But where’s the girls?” I asked.

He winked. “Oh, you Darkness dwellers, you should know better. Just wait.”

And true, a couple of scantily clothed girls walked to our table and started dancing on it. They covered their faces with veil, which made me want to take it off to get a clear view.
“Oh, yeah, can you feel it?” my friend said.

“Feel what?”

“Your Devourer’s unburrowing.”

“Devourer what?”

“This is just an opening act,” my friend said. “They have a bigger performance after this. So just enjoy.”

A barman brought a small Catapult and the girls danced around it. A girl climbed on the Catapult and one was rubbing her back on the handle while facing us.

“Oh, yes, yes this is it,” my friend said.

The girl touched each other, rubbing their belly as if they were Gravity Pulled. The Momentum was very apparent, and I started to lose my focus.

“I see you enjoyed the appetizer,” my friend said as he grinned. “Then let’s start the main course!”

He clapped his hand, and a barman came to take the Catapult and the two girls away. Suddenly, a girl as big as Armagio came in with a Titan in her hands.

“Woo yeah! Isn’t she a hottie?”

“She WHAT? That fat lady?”

“I’m telling you, she’s the real beauty around. Ooh!”

I was confused, I wanted to run but I felt like I would miss something interesting. So I sat beside my friend as the fat girl shook her hip while using the Titan as a pole for dancing.

“Are you... are you sure she’s the girl you’re talking about? Hey... HEY! Stop touching your Salvager!”

“Ah... why? She’s making me hot!”

“She what? She’s just... eww, what’s that? She put the Titan WHERE?!”

“Oh yeah baby, yeah! Like that!”

“I... I... what. Is. This.”

“This is Gravity’s striptease, duude!”

I felt like my mind stopped working as the fat woman took out a Charger and put it... somewhere.

“HOW THE HELL DOES THAT FIT THERE?!”

“Yeah, babe! Push it! Push it harder!”

“Are you crazy what if the Titan won’t come ou- WHAT THE HELL NOT THE CHARGER TOO!”

“Yeeah girl! More!”

The moral of the story is, never watch a Gravity girl doing striptease.

Card Design: Vote
Whispers in the Dark followed by Divine Light.

Card Design: Skilled Opinion
In some ways this task was easy (just slap a easily recognized ability onto a different element background with a new card name). However the the ease of the task means voters would expect/demand more.

Personally I expected the following:
1) The mechanic is obviously put in the wrong element. (I think Duo cards were not fitting the challenge, but I ignored that)
2) The mechanic is new (It is too easy to use an old ability in an old way for this challenge)
3) The mechanic fits the card despite being in the wrong element. (Duo is an easy way to do this but there are other ways)

Divine Light: 2.0
1) [0.5] Rage exists in Fire, but it could be argued to be added to light.
2) [0.5] Reuse of the rage mechanic with alterations.
3) [1.0] Righteous fury was a good connection. Perhaps too good since it made me question if Rage is not suited to Light

Cuckoo's Nest 1.5
1) [1.0] Those abilities are well known for being from other elements
2) [0.0] Strictly reusing old mechanic in an old way
3) [0.5] Momentum makes sense. But Immaterial does not. If this is a literal shadow, then there is a source that can be targeted. If it is the creature Shadow, then it is Incorporeal not Immaterial. Immaterial is not a good fit for Incorporeal.

Death Dost Dominate 1.75
1) [1.0] Yes it does not fit in Death, but I do not think it is Earth either.
2) [0.25] Almost strict reuse of an old mechanic
3) [0.5] Reincarnate and the mechanic flow well together but Death does not flow well with either.
Sidenote: Your wording contains a typo
The passive ability is "Reincarnate" not " :earth: Exhume"

Silver Ferns 1.75
1) [0.5] While paradox is in entropy, it could be justified in air based on the hp = weight theme
2) [0.25] Reuse of Paradox in an AoE form.
3) [1.0] The weight <=> hp theme from Gravity helps bind these two parts together.

Whispers in the Dark 3.0
1) [1.0] Despite being a new mechanic, this is clearly a fire/entropy like effect.
2) [1.0] New mechanic
3) [1.0] Sharks are very aggressive fish
"It is common sense to listen to the wisdom of the wise. The wise are marked by their readiness to listen to the wisdom of the fool."
"Nothing exists that cannot be countered." -OldTrees on indirect counters

The Brawlmasters will select their favorite icon to be used... The winner of this bonus task will get additional 5 points!

Since they have been submitted in the voting thread are they eligible for voting by brawlers/general public or do the BMs decide the winner themselves?

Wait, are you telling us you haven't decided yet? Come on! Despite of being the creator of Silver Ferns' icon, I honestly believe it is Death Dost Dominate all the way... 8)

I like the neon signage look of Cuckoo's Nest as well as the retro 8-bit style of Silver Ferns.

My feelings/ votes on the results of this round:

(If I offend anyone, please don't take it personally. I'm just trying to be honest. Just work harder next round to win me over.)

Boss/FE - WITD, DDD

Spoiler for Hidden:
Judged on which appeals most to me personally.

Whispers: Awesome, as always.
Ferns: tl:dr. First time I saw the wall of text, I skipped past. After reading all the others, I came back and just gave up before too long from confusion. If I can't even read the rules, I'm not going to join the event. Sorry but no.
Death: At first I was like, "what is this?", "it's just playing against the trainer?" And then I got through and was pleasantly surprised. I like the idea of death effects and stuff. And using the trainer technically not PvP so it's all good. Gets my second place.
Cuckoo's: I've never really been a fan of those types of events. All the complication and rules just confuddle my simple mind. I'm sure your idea's good, but it just doesn't appeal to me. Sorry.
Light: Yeah, an event that uses newbies teaming up with vets seems good on paper, but in reality... How many dead accounts are there with <100 posts compared to those with 100+. I have nothing against new members, the more the merrier after all, but an event that depends on the attendance of newbies sounds like it won't end well.

Card Designer - WITD, SF

Spoiler for Hidden:
Judged on originality, as well as the links between Element <--> Name <--> Mechanic. That is, the name has to link to both the element and the mechanic, but they can't link themselves.

Light: A light card with a mass miniature rage potion on a stick; interesting... The ability didn't exactly strike me as "WOW!" but the main flaw was that I don't feel the links were strong enough to make sense. A champion kind of fits in light, and the mechanic kind of fits the card. And for that reason, the ferns beat you to second place.
Cuckoo's: Did you even try at all to be original? Yes, you fit the description of the task, but it looks like you just picked 2 current buffs and stuck them on a random element, then made it look like it fits (which I don't really agree with). Sorry but you don't even get effort points for that.
Death: Trigger passive ability, WAT?! Overlooking that, it feels to death related. The ability relies on the death of the target creature, so why is this "not death"? Aside from that hiccup, I don't feel like earth is the best element to have as the cost. Plus, this would require the game to remember the card which was there. Basically, there's not one huge thing I don't like, just lots of small ones.
Ferns: At first I thought this was OP and game-wrecking (and in a sense I still do). It's almost perfect for air based stalls. Maybe not the most balanced card here, but for being original and innovative, you get the vote. That and the fact that this fits perfectly thematically.
Whispers: Especially awesome, as always.

Deckbuilder - WITD, DL

Spoiler for Hidden:
Based on how well the deck uses the CI&A cards, and fits the theme.

Ferns: Using only one CI&A card which isn't really crucial to the deck isn't enough to get a vote from me. Sorry.
Cuckoo's: See above, except your card was more important to the deck, which is a plus. And with eggs and damsels, you got the nest thing going on. But others were just better.
Light: That's more like it, 3 CI&A cards, working together to make a powerful deck. It works as a concept, its fits the whole "divine light will bat you" deal. It was just a really good submission. And +1 for using Krys' card.
Death: Divine Light just slipped you into third place. Yes, you had the CI&A cards happening, but they were more like flavour to an already in use deck, as opposed to being the crucial cards. If you'd have done that, you may have got the vote instead of DL, but only because I like Schrodinger's Cat.
Whispers: Awesome, as always.

Writer - WITD, CN

Spoiler for Hidden:
Based on the lulz, as well as the potential to cause this.

Ferns: I'll admit, the ending left me disappointed. Hot teachers telling you to come for "a special welcome" always works as erotica, and you left me hanging. But your ending made me laugh (and question my life choices) so you got that.
Whispers: Awesome, as usual.
Light: I don't think there was a point during reading this when I fully understood what was going on. Combine that with some cringe-worthy plot devices and a grammatical mistake within the first 4 words, and its obvious why you came last for me.
Nest: “Your Devourer’s unburrowing.” And that's why you won.

Bonus - WITD, DL

Just voted for what I liked. I'm not gonna review each one, because I'm lazy, but Divine Light did the best job (except WITD, they were awesome, as usual).
