hrm... i dont know. when you say "automatically" what do you mean? like, right when your turn starts/ends? when your opponent plays a shield? when the creature itself attacks?

also, when you say (material), what does that mean? what about shields that have been "protected"? what about phase shield (for concept reasons)?

there are too many possible variables for you to not make a detailed notes section

Material is generally accepted as "not immaterial", which means it can be targeted (i.e. Any non Reflective Shield, Emerald Shield, and Hope without PA).

Originally the idea was that automatically would mean at the instant the shield is played, but thematically it would make more sense to have it destroy the shield when BR attacks.

Material = not immaterial, just as AD said. Protected shields are also immaterial.

What about Bone Wall? Are the 7 layers destroyed automatically?

What about Bone Wall? Are the 7 layers destroyed automatically? Yes

Put up a poll on when shield should be destroyed. Please vote. Thanks

To make it not OP, I voted that this card destroys shields after attacking so that the shields can still see some use to block the previous attacking creatures.

i agree that if it destroyed shields before any of your creatures attacked, it would be op. but if it's simply when battering ram WOULD attack (as in it attacks and then the shield is destroyed), it makes it way more balanced. as it stands, i like it a lot as a card.

Though poll is not over yet, 8-0 say it should destroy shield when it attacks, so it has been changed. Also lowered cost. OP updated

For purely thematic reasons, I'm going to have to go with 'when BR attacks'

I do think it is interesting to have it be a flat no-shield lock, but I tend to be very biased toward cards that have a more solid thematic feel even if it means sacrificing a little bit of power.

If you still accept suggestions, I think that it should affect immaterial shields too. Just the way that Fire Shield affects immaterial creatures, Battering Ram should also be able to affect immaterial shields. Being immaterial only protects from targeting, but Ram's ability is passive, just like Fire Shield. There is physical contact.

(Immaterial DR shields also block damage, this strenghtens my point.)

EDIT: But here comes an interesting question. Should Battering Ram affect shields with 0 DR?

Sure, still open to suggestions.

Affecting immaterial shields would be problematic. Thematically physical damage should not be able to affect immaterial things, just some sort of spell thingie...

And for 0 DR shields: they are still shields, so yes, I think it should
