Title: computer generated sound bites
Post by: Scaredgirl on February 02, 2010, 06:27:55 am
Since we cannot afford to hire any professional sound bite guys or girls, I thought it would be a good idea to use computer generated text-to-speech software. Here's an example:

http://elementscommunity.org/forum/radio/susan.wav (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/radio/susan.wav)

"Hi! My name is Susan and I like to do voice overs. Like this: You are listening to Elements Radio! Or like this: Darkness has been defeated and the dark clouds finally pass by. It is time for the hour of Light!"

That was just something I typed in a hurry. It's not going to be heard on the radio. :)

There are many different voices to choose from. This Susan is just one of them. Every element could for example have its own voice, or one voice could do 2-3 different elements.

What do you think?

EDIT:
Couple of more:

If I can get ahold of a decent mic I can do voiceovers for tags and the like. Unfortunately my decent one was borrowed from the station and I've had to give it back; I haven't the money to buy a good quality replacement right now. I'll ask around and see if I can come up with anything.

That would be pretty sweet.

Only downside to that is of course that if we want to change/add something, you'll have to dig up that mic again. The reason I like these computer generated sounds is that if I need something changed, I can get it in 3 minutes.

Maybe you could do the "main" stuff and for minor things we could use bots?

Of course if we got more real people to do the voice overs, there wouldn't be a need for bots.

Lets get back to this when the new server migration is over.

There's a voice emulator to make the Cheeto guy say whatever you want, and I'm pretty sure it's not copyrighted.  That would both be hilarious, and be an excellent way to make ad revenue.

EDIT: Whoops, apparently they took it down  :(
