:aether fast Techno (lightning = electricity)
:air ??
:darkness Some dark soundscape stuff? I don't know..
:death Metal
:earth ??
:entropy Punk (anarchy, chaos..)
:fire Rock
:gravity ??
:life Acoustic
:light Classical
:time Oldies (time.. old.. get it?)
:water Slow Techno with "underwater" effects maybe?
-
My ideas are:
:aether: Gregorian, Pan Flute
:air: Acc. Guitar, Flutes, Harp
:darkness: No metal, Darkness is a quiet element. You can´t steal or bite as a vampire, if you are loud.
:death: Church Organ?
:earth: Rock *g*.
:entropy: Jazz
:fire: Don´t know.
:gravity: Hymnes, Brass
:life: Jungle Drums, Love Songs? Or music like "Circle of Life, Lion King"
:light: Gospel, choral songs
:time:Oldies, Scaredgirl suggested,could fit.
:water: Accordeon, Seamen music, music which "simulates" water
-
:aether ???
:air FLutes. Instruments that use air.
:darkness Some orchestral music with deep tunes.
:death Some slow and sad songs.
:earth Earth is hard, so maybe some hardstyle?
:entropy Hip hop?
:fire Burning so it has to be powerfull music, like rock or things like that.
:gravity Big drums
:life is harmony so harves and a bit trance. Progressive trance could fit.
:light ???
:time Music that changes between fast and slow parts, because it is time.
:water Whale singing?
-
:aether Gregorian Chant WITH fast Techno effects! :D
:air Fast woodwind section. Panpipes, quick shuffling dance music.
:darkness Very slow, dramatic music. Slowly crescendos into a very loud climax or something.
:death Death metal interspersed with requiems?
:earth Rock! :D
:entropy Steve Reich & Phillip Glass-esque music. :D Looping, random noises, et cetera.
:fire Anything very emotional, passionate, and powerful. Rock and maybe alternative works.
:gravity Percussion and brass section.
:life Umm... country? :D Clear melody and harmony, yaaay.
:light Epic harps and organs with classical and baroque music.
:time Oldies, as previously suggested.
:water Mystical techno with underwater sounds like Scaredgirl said.
-
:aether: Techno, naturally
:air: Drum n' Base!
:darkness: Gothic and Darkwave would fit perfectly.
:death: Punk and Hardcore
:earth: Rock, obviously
:entropy: Jazz, Experimental, Avant-Garde and Post Metal
:fire: Latin
:gravity: Hymns, Chants and Power Ballads
:life: Folk and Filk
:light: Pop and Soul
:time: Oldies and Evergreens
:water: Ska, Reggea
-
Thank you very much for all the suggestions. I'll try to find some kind of "middle road". When it's ready, you can tell me how much it sucks. :)
-
:aether: is more like Drum n' Base/Dubstep than :air imo...
also:
:fire: Punk! fire = fast, raging, destructive ... punk^^
-
give my vote to hard rock for earth!
-
:entropy - jazz??
more like this.
()
not that much easy to listen to if you don't like it ... but it would fit
damn how i'd love to have breakcore on the radio <3
-
my ideas
:aether techno
:air classical
:darkness emo (no offence to all those darkness lovers)
:death metal
:earth Celtic music
:entropy punk
:fire Latin
:gravity ???
:life idk, something lively?
:light opera
:time country
:water i guess this one is classical too? then again, all elements would go with classical (yes, it pwns that much :P) (there is a certain elegance to everything, you just have to listen to find it)
-
It's only real radio if there's yodeling.
-
Im not really sure about most of them except.
:entropy This should be a mixed playlist for sure.
-
:gravity should be prog rock. Not anything whiny, just solidly constructed songs.
-
Okay, one just played on the radio. I'm Not Jim sounds like what I was going for for the Gravity sound. Very like!
-
well here's my ideia:
:earth - 80' rock
:air - chill out
:fire - Punk
:water - Pop
:light - Alternative
:darkness - Heavy Metal
:entropy - Techno / Dance / Electronic / Trance
:gravity - Hip Hop
:time - Jazz/Blues
:aether - Alternative
:life - Reagee
:death - Hard Rock

:fire = Fierce and emotional

can i name artists ? i know the topic was bout genres... but meh i dont like genres :P
so i'll name an artist with a song i feel right for each element
:aether enzyme x &feature=related
:air samvel yervinyan &feature=related
:darkness new order &feature=related (i dont like them at all but this song rocks ! otherwise i would recommend joy division &feature=related )
:death bauhaus &feature=related or this one by aphex twin &feature=related <--- epic
:earth fugazi ; &feature=related it's the same song, the second link is just the live version.. with a pretty bad sound quality but it's a nice video with a funny guy "dancing" lol
:entropy the raveonettes, this song in particular ! (i dont like so much the other tracks) i had an hard time choosing here cuz this one: makes me feel a lot like entropy and is sooooo stupidly funny.. so entropy get 2 songs because entropy is cool and more important it's pink !!
:fire lemmy ! (with probot !!)
:gravity tom waits woah !!
:life system of a down, this song &feature=PlayList&p=3D91E3BA7E785390&index=1 or this one &feature=related
:light vivaldi, "autumn" (the four seasons) or "summer: third movement" &feature=related
:time emerson, lake and palmer &feature=related
:water chemical brothers (love this video)
edit: lemme know what u think, and maybe i can add more songs here. enjoy !
-
:darkness Blues/ emo
:death Death Metal/ metal
:fire Screamo
:gravity Heavy metal (gravity, heavy) :P
:life Country

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. So far I've made couple of final decisions. :)
:life Reggae
I think at least one of you suggested this. Reggae is perfect music to listen to while grinding so it has to be on the list. Life seems like the most logical choice because reggae is.. well lively.
:light Piano stuff (with or without vocals)
I have a bunch of soft piano stuff which I'll probably put in Light.
:aether Techno
This is something many of us agreed on. Sounds logical.
:time Oldies
Also suggested by many and again sounds logical.
:earth Rock (what kind.. is still to be determined)
This is pretty good choice imo. How could it be anything else?
:water "Underwater" techno
This will fit very nicely I think.
That's it for now. Once again thanks for your suggestions.

We are going to have all 12 + 'other' which is a 24/7 talk radio (I'm using various free podcasts for it). So there will be a total of 13 stations.
I have one more:
:darkness Heavy Metal
..athough I might change it to :death
Which one do you guys think is better?

:darkness Heavy metal
:death Death metal :P
Heh, yes that makes sense I suppose. But the problem is that Death Metal is really niche and something 95% of population absolutely hate. I'd like to have all stations "easy listening" enough that anyone can listen to any station without getting a sudden urge to change it. Also I think one "Metal" is enough so we get more variation.
-
:gravity Heavy metal
:darkness Ambient, atmospheric dark stuff (think Donnie Darko () / Metroid () soundtrack, or something like this ())
Edit: more Metroid (from OCRemix (http://www.ocremix.org/))
-
no1 is gonna listen to my list :(

Hmm.. yea, I don't see why :gravity couldn't be Heavy Metal. Although I was kind of thinking of putting Hip Hop to gravity. Hip Hop might not be everyone's cup of tea but it's easily one of the "big" genres so I think it should be included somewhere.
When I look at Heavy Metal, it has Darkness written all over it. Vocals, image, clothes, everything is closest to Darkness imo.
I have to think about it.
no1 is gonna listen to my list :(
Nothing wrong with your list but because of copyright issues, we cannot use any of the music by those artists. What we are looking is genres. When we have a genre, we then find free music for that genre.

doh i forgot copyright.. *blame himself for the time lost*

oh, so there are supose to be 12 stations (one for each genre)? i though it was going to be 1 station 24/7 ( 2 hours each element) ;)
-
:death = Hard Rock
:life = Classical
:water = Harmony
:aether = Techno
:air = Woodwinds
:earth = Rock
:entropy = Jazz
:gravity = Percussion with a heavy beat
:time = I agree with ScaredGirl, Old Timies.
:light = Something in upper treble.
:darkness = Bass and over dramatic
:fire = Fierce and emotional
I agree with this one
-
I think deathrock, post punk, sludge, dark ambient and dark jazz would fit very well in either :darkness or :death
Specially :death...jus seying :c
-

I've kind of decided to go with the original plan and build only one radio station because it makes things a lot easier when it comes to programming and such.
Right now the plan is to have a couple of "easy listening" genres and just play them 24/7, while putting Elements original programming into the mix.
We will then gradually add more genres. There is a possibility that not all elements will be represented. If we just throw in 12 totally different genres, it's going to be a disaster that nobody likes to listen.
It might take a couple of weeks before the radio starts to sound like it should because things like radio website are higher priority. Meanwhile I will just play whatever so try to bare with me. :)
-
:aether - Techno/Trans
:air - upbeat instrumental stuff
:darkness - Behomoth/Death Metal
:death - Slower, more depressing sounds. NIN/Tool
:earth - rock or arabic stuff
:entropy - no clue...
:gravity - Something with old school drum feel
:life - Sounds of nature (forest ect)
:light - Classical/Jazz (something slow)
:time - Oldies
:water - Sounds of water (waterfall, ocean ect)
-
Let's help a bit :D
:aether Techno of any kind
:air I agree with the flutes thing
:darkness Industrial
:death Metal \m/
:earth Ethnic, foreign music
:entropy Progressive Jazz!!!
:fire Rock
:gravity Groove metal! lol, can´t help it.
:life Reggae
:light Acoustic... Orchestras, maybe Apocalyptica.
:time Oldies, Scaredgirl nailed it!
:water New age/ambiental music
-
As someone before said, Darkness shouldn't be metal or anything such loud and such. Quiet and ominous things.
-
:aether : Dance/Techno
:air calming music
:darkness those creepy church pipes something like that
:death Heavy Metal blank
:earth this seems close
:entropy some crazy type music maybe this
:fire Rock not really rock but...
:gravity still not sure what genre or song, Blank
:life Reggae
:light Christian Rock dont know any Christian rock, Blank
:time
:water i think its obvious, ---- --- favourite
I copied some of these ideas obviously, to one that i liked a little bit of a mix. Also lots of these dont really match, except water, im going to stick with water.
-
:entropy I recommend a mix of psychobilly
and Ween.
Now THAT'S Entropy. ;D
[I'm aware this is impossible to implement.]
-
I'm feeling a definite Jazz vibe coming from :air. Smooth Jazz would fit quite nicely with it, I believe.
Also, for :fire, I'm going to have to agree with Rock. Though maybe not Modern or Alternative. Maybe more like Classic Rock.
And for some reason, the first thing that comes to mind with :entropy is Weird Al Yankovich.... <_<
-
The one I have to bring up is poor ol' darkness. I've already seen a few suggestions for "emo." Please, for the sake of it's integrity, don't follow this advice! :darkness should be calm, pondering. Think classic goth music. :death should be mournful, funeral procession-esque sounds, maybe with a bit of chanting thrown in.
The difference (which was touched on earlier) is the feeling when you attend the funeral of a loved one versus simply staring out into the darkness and thinking.
But in the end:
:darkness != emo
Ever.
-
For me I play Darkness and listen to a variety of Pipe Organ crossed with Metal..Try Bachs Toccatta and Fugue in D minor down by a Metal Band with pipe Organs, man it will blow you away.
Thats my choice anyway.
Thanks
Scyther
-
I love Toccata and Fugue so much ;) It's on my iPod.
Dark, archaic-sounding music like this is perfect for Darkness.
Crossing it with metal sounds innovative.
-
Yeah we won a national rock contest with it by doing that. It sounds absolutley awesome with a distorted guitar and pipe organ running side by side.
Scyther
-
For :darkness I suggest Gothic, as it fits the theme quite well. For one, the sound is rather dark and gloomy and a great part of the gothics dress entirely in black.
For :gravity Power Metal/ Heavy Metal Those two go great together and both fit Gravity kind of.
For :fire Punk seems fine
For :death some harder Metal, or more towards Opera metal/Symphonic Metal... Or some Horror Movie Background music
For :air Just use music from instruments that invovle air, flutes, sax, that australian thing (forgot the name)
For :entropy Something wild that changes rythm over time
-
Everyone seems agreed but theres just a few differences that seem to divide us.
-
:light would like to hear more of violin/paino. Old and new stuff maybe even some hip hop type of new and mozart kind of old
:aether upbeat something you can just have fun to
-
:aether is not a "have fun, carefree" element. It is the element of divine order.
Again, I say Gregorian Chant; techno is fine, but... fine.
-
what's the last situation on this?
do we get to recommend anything or is it on hold?
-
:aether techno strange stuff...
:air calming flute music
:darkness metal!!!
:death more metal?
:earth some sort of heavy rock? (xD)
:entropy more techno
:fire metallica (only fight fire with fire)
:gravity ??
:life acoustic guitar stuff
:light opera
:time only muse (coz its epic =D)
:water bubble sound effects :)
-
Darkness is hardcore techno.
Of course.
-
Happy hardcore or hardtrance?
-
:aether Techno
:air singer/songwriter musicians
:darkness gothic
:death Metal
:earth raggae and ska
:entropy Punk
:fire Rock
:gravity Hip Hop (just because no other element left to include that genre)
:life Acoustic
:light Classical
:time Oldies
:water psychedelic lounge
-
Klick for examples of "title songs", all have element in the title or something to do with, although aether, earth and entropy arent good choices - for my taste of music ;)
:aether Skeptizism ()
:air Johann Sebastian Bach ()
:darkness Mercury Rev ()
:death The Kinks (&feature=fvst)
:earth Michael Jackson ()
:entropy Bad Religion ()
:fire The Doors () or Electric Six () or Bloodhound Gang (&feature=fvst) or Johnny Cash ()
:gravity Placebo (&feature=related)
:life Army of Lovers ()
:light Johnny Cash () or Supergrass (&feature=fvst)
:time Rolling Stones ()
:water Deep Purple (&feature=related)
*edit* and you see my preference of fire ;)
-
:gravity Anything with heavy basslines - hip/hop & dub (reggae) spring to mind
-
heavy basslines, that's hardcore, hardstyle and probably Schranz, but Schranz wpuld noone like to hear
-
No luv for Rap? Rap's awesome. Umm Maybe Rap goes for Fire?
-
Anyone considered Dubstep for :gravity ? It isnt my favourite type of music, but it has a lot a Bass, and would fit better with Gravity than any other element.
-
12 songs of different styles. I'm sure they would fit in somewhere. Take em or leave em.
Dramatic orchestral:
Medevil/goth/spooky:
Accordion/waltz:
Progressive rock:
Blues:
Soft rock/acoustic:
Metal:
Jazz Fusion/Acid Jazz/Free jazz:

You need to hear the gravity song its so awesome i mena common its the best song ever
Listen too the gravity song its the best song ever and evryone who doesnt hear it is a noob its really the perfect song for gravity
-
:entropy I still think entropy should be a mixed playlist. Think about it, you hear death metal then suddenly you hear country and after that you hear opeara music after that you hear techno, it really seems to fit entropy.
-
:death = Hard Rock

:darkness - kinda open one, wasnt sure what to put.
:death - deathmetal/heavymetal/metal, goes good in this category.
:earth - Rock, very 'down to earth' and common.

If much people dont like "extreme" genres like (hardcore) punk you could take subgenres... for example fun-punk.
-
Lol don't we have a section like this in the WAR thread? last I checked a few didn't have then yet
-
So when will elements radio be up exactly?
-
:aether: techno

:death: Metal
:earth: country
:entropy: Screamo

-
:aether EBM or Trance, athmospheric music
:air light melodies, high tunes... fast...maybe irish folk musik or stuff like this
:darkness the darkest musik i know would be depressive black metal like this
&feature=related
Gothic or darkwave would do the thing, too
:death power metal, death metal, stuff like lordi too
:earth something massive, so hard rock and music with massive bass
:entropy progressive rock (tool maybe?), chaoscore (Dillinger escape plan ftw, maybe stuff like Horse the band, too), breakbeats, (check out KieW - Synapsenbrecher)
:fire punk rock would fit, or other fast, energetic songs
:gravity symphonic, orchestral stuff
:life acoustic songs, tribal songs etc
:light gregorian, stull like enigma and era
:time oldies, folk, neofolk...
:water hm, water is changing all the time, so the songs would have to be very dynamic and versatile... genre doesnt matter, i guess, a nice example would be Celldweller - the last firstborn :

Well, I usually chose by the Lyrics... So the samples will be fitting in Lyrics!
:aether : Not much is known about the Aether! But 1 thing is real : Immortality! The Music of Aether shall focus on the immortality, the power! Starting slow in life but getting old and experienced, never to die but getting stronger!
Sample: Prometheus Rising ()
:air : For Air I guess the one that really fits is the music with blowing instruments... But I guess also Pop cause Air is a free-spirited and highly energetic elements, just like the freedom of Pop.
Sample: Gravity Hurts ()
:darkness: Darkness is the real deal! The Music of darkness should represent the nature of it! Mischievous, dark, Strong will, and an unbreakable sense of duty!
Sample: Reckless Youth ()
:death : Dark.. Very.. The Music of Death shall break the moral of everyone who hears it! It should show the world around them that "YES! HEAR WE COME! Fear us....."
Sample: Creeping in my Soul ()
:earth : Rock. Obvious! Earth (Along with Fire) is one of the Strongest and main Combatant elements! The music should be Moral improving, hard, and ground breaking!
Sample: Frontline ()
:entropy This element is all about randomness of life! Madness, Chaos, Insanity! Never to predict what happens and confuse the opponents mind with everything they have, to gain the upper hand!
Sample: Disturbia ()
:fire : Burning songs that have fast rhythm. They should also raise the moral HIGH! A song that no one will resist and shows the pure destructive power of Fire
Sample: Kingdom Burning Down ()
:gravity: Gravity is one of the mightiest elements, binding everything to the earth, never to let it go again! The Music of Gravity shall be focusing the reality, instead of dreams... just move along whatever happens. Staying on the Earth, in other words.
Sample: Europa ()
:life Life... The Element of Life is encouraging people to live their life to their fullest! This element is all about giving and maintaining a perfect and happy life, and also saving them from Death! The music shall do the same, Encouraging people to live their life the bets way they just can!
Sample: It's my life ()
:light The Element of Light is always looking for Hope! Wherever is light, There IS Hope! The Music of Light shall be enlightening, giving hope in darkest times. Lightening up the path where we go...
Sample: Take me away ()
:time The Element of Wisdom. The Music of Time shall represent the eternity, the knowledge, the wisdom itself! Also must not show too much emotion cause as nearly everyone heard already "The Heart conflicts with the Mind". Or in english: The Emotions clouds your decisions
Sample: Mojave ()
:water Water... The Water is elegant! The Water is swift! The Water is the pure Beauty! The Music of Water should be only those that represent these traits.
Sample: Mezame

:aether - Progressive Trance / House.
:air - Happy Hardcore.
:darkness - Anything with a dark mood and a decent bassline.
:death - Death Metal or Grunge might be best, but not so popular. I'd go with anything that has a slow beat and a heavy bassline.
:earth - Rock. Duh.
:entropy - Anything with a dynamic tempo.
:fire - Really fast songs.
:gravity - Metal / Dubstep.
:life - Dance music / Breakbeat.

:aether Aether embodies that which has always been there. The natural rhythm that's part of our biological composition. What else but epic classical music fits here? Psytrance, I suppose, to embody the unconventional and electrifying. It is the one electronic genre that focuses the most on hypnotising rhythms and different sounds.
Now.. when I say classical, you need not think of Tchaikovsky. The propaganda song I chose for Team Aether is more like it: http://grooveshark.com/#/s/For+The+Craftworld/2oryc7?src=6
This kind of fuse music is prominent in video games nowadays and thus relatively easy to find in series like Starcraft and Warhammer.
As for Psytrance examples, Infected Mushroom are the kings of weird stuff with pieces like Facing:
Lo Ra:
Frog Machine (nice :life reference there):
After 1000 Years:
Spaniard:
Nothing Comes Easy:
And dozens more. I don't think -fast- music is a must, but I do think there has to be ambience. A "mood" if you will, often mystical or at least electronic/epic. In that vein, some Dark Ambient works as well now and then, and even the occasional Industrial piece.
If you want more conventional Psytrance, groups like Astrix and Holy Men are great. (Desert Storm <3: )
Apparently I could go on forever about this, so I'll just bide my time a bit. :>

Instead of just listing random genres for elements, I think we should do something like what Higs has done, analyzing each element and then assigning it a genre based on its nature. For example, an easy one: Fire is fast, powerful, and dominating, so a fitting genre would be hard rock (energetic, fast, heavy). Of course we should go more in-depth then that example.
And also I would like to point out that we should choose 12 genres that people actually listen to in this forum. Some people have suggested stuff like jungle drums for life, but let's be honest, who would actually listen to that? Instead, genres like electronic or metal are much more popular in this forum, and therefore should be included.
More later, perhaps.

Hm, yes.. Power Metal goes with Fire, that's for sure. Demetori are my favourites there with masterpieces like Innumerable Eyes: &index=3
And Nuclear Fusion:
There are literally thousands of epic Touhou remixes that fit all genres, as the doujin has millions of fans, and a lot can be found on Youtube and Nico Nico Douga.
Eastern Military History: &index=50
The best damn lyricless Metal song of all time with a Japanese name I won't bother translating: &index=45
The Night of Eternity (not Power Metal, but awesome nonetheless): &index=27
Adrenaline Shooting: &index=12
Ruins in Hell: &index=47
And on and on for eternity~
An example of a non-fantasy focused group would be Mastodon. Blood and Thunder is just classic:

Semi-off topic, but this song should be the theme for every Elementer everywhere (especially those who like :darkness ).
Cause your soul is on fire
A shot in the dark
What did they aim for when they missed your heart?
I breathe underwater
It's all in my hands
What can I do
Don't let it fall apart
A shot in the dark
Life and Light are also referenced in the song. :)
