It's time too gather your thoughts as you look back fondly on the warm memories you have from Draft III; like how you crafted a cohesive team unit and worked together to achieve your goals.
  • What did you enjoy about this event?
  • What improvements would you like to see for next time?
  • What were the factors in your teams success or failures?
  • What strategic advice would you give to future draft teams?

Spoiler for Team William Howard Taft:
Ladies, Gentlemen, and Plastiqe, I welcome you...

This is Taft. Elegance. Style. Ultimate tactics and immaculate posture.

Our effort to match the grandeur of this remarkable man (meagre, perhaps..) reveals itself as an arsenal of decks whose passion in origin mimic that of W. H. Taft's toward both domestic and international policy.

Our struggle, too, cries reminiscient of his, for we find ourselves facing not four, not eight, but Eleven opponents. Taft himself competed against two other Presidential Candidates in the 1912 election.

And we shall hold ourselves to the very same motto: that of Progessivism! The Grab-bow, the Bone-Bolt, the Dev-tal, and the Fire-Stall are all powerful decks in their own right, but they are relics of a forgone generation - relics from 1.30 and before. We seek to bring new blood into the version that is 1.31, and if we must litter the battlefield with the corpses of our opponents to do so, then so be it.

An In-Depth Analysis of All Credible Threats to Our Administration

-- This space has been intentionally left blank --

Spoiler for Team George W. Bush:
Welcome to your Draft III headquarters.  Use this area to plan your drafting stratetgy and deck choices.  Good luck and have fun!

All right guys, what do we want with our early picks?

Food

lol

Okay, Nympho Tears is on the board, would love that as pick #2

I'd like everyone to do a depth chart of say the top 10 cards they'd like, here's mine

#1 Deflag (or) Steal / #2 Nymphs Tears / #3 Rev Time / #4 Graboid / #5 Devourer / #6 Lightning Bolt / #7 Titanium Shield / #8 Stone Skin / #9 Earthquake / #10 Purify

Mine will based on how many rounds this will go and if it is drafting twice or two drafts of six teams... let me know when you find out more

All the teams are divided into one of two sides (First and Second).  Teams in the First Draft are picking cards against eachother and teams in Second Draft are picking cards against eachother.
~plastiqe

Before anything other: Which deck can we make (Mono, Duo, Trio and Rainbow)?
More elements means less speed.

Ok, if we choose a card to draft it's good to consider that nobody other will have it, so for me we must choose a smart card to fight.
I'd choose:

>>> Ideas, not in order
Steal (very smart)
Nymph's Tears (with Rainbow and Water desk should be very powerful)
Immolation (for Mono Fire is perfect)
Black Hole (against Rainbow decks)
Maxwell's Demon (against attack creatures)
Antimatter (against attack creatures)
Nova (free quantas)
Parallel Universe
Devourer (nice for Dark Mono)
Fate Egg (sometimes there are powerful creatures. as Nymphs)
Firefly Queen (if you want a Firefly farm, but I think could be too slow)
Luciferin (universal extra-life)
Purify (against Poison, Arsenic and so on)
Steam Machine (reaches big attack very fast)
Deflagration
Earthquake (against pillars)
Emphatic Bond (if you have lots of creatures)
Armagio (gravity pull)
Aflatoxin
Reverse Time (against overpowered creatures)

Great comments, I agree with you on a lot of cards you like. I think we have to go rainbow, since mono-duo relies on getting the specific cards you want from that element. Nymphs tears lets us have a 2nd deck that can be changed easily - add gravity pillars and we have black hole nymphs, add entropy pillars and we have anti-matter nymphs etc. We can use that deck, then switch back to our rainbow. If we do go rainbow, I prefer cheap quanta cards with lots of punch; like graboid, lycanthrope, etc.

Nova is a great card as you mentioned, I'm a little nervous about immolation though, since I've never built a good winning immo-deck.

I just read that the draft goes 15 rounds, so let's start thinking about good mid-round picks too. We can't just take random cards we like, the deck needs to work efficiently. Some cards on Alorx's list that I don't like (not saying we can't take them - fate egg (too random - and a bit slow) FFQ (also too slow unless you build the right deck) unupgraded anti-matter (takes forever and usually isn't decisive) Steam Machine (seems slow to me, although they are tough with purify) Aflatoxin (very risky play) - just my comments, doesn't mean I'm 100% against taking these cards.

Alorx, can you organize your list into a depth chart for the top 10 cards you want in order of importance? I'm thinking steal/delfag has to be #1.

I'm experimenting with mindgate at the moment, very powerful... try this deck if you get the time:
5um 5um 5um 5um 5um 5um 5up 5up 5up 5up 5uq 61o 61o 61o 61o 61o 61o 61o 61o 61o 61o 61q 61q 61q 61q 622 623 623 623 623 623 8pt

Ach, nevermind, just got humiliated by an FFQ/hope deck

We're drafting 6th - Discord is the first card chosen, let's hope someone else takes black hole. If we can't get steal or deflag, we should seriously consider enchant artifact or earthquake. Deflag went #1 in the other draft, we can rest assured it will be gone when we pick. Should nymphs be our #1?
Picking 6th has the advantage of getting two picks in a row with the snake drafting format.  You should aim to post pick #6 and pick #7 at the same time.  There is not a 12h window between them.
~plastiqe

I've been really dominating with nymphs in pvp, but deflag is absolutely necessary

Once we make our pick in the #6 slot, we should take our time with pick 7. I don't want a disadvantage, like if we pick 2 cards, including Nymph Tears, then later find out it's off the board. I was told by plastique that it's in play, but the forum says something abotu nymphs banned period.
Nymph cards (Purple Nymph, Auburn Nymph etc) are banned.  Nymph Tears is not banned.
~plastiqe

We're going  to need denial protection - I'm starting to think Earth - Light, with enchanted sancturaies might keep us going pretty well. I'm going to start experimenting, but nymph should still be our top priority

Okay, we're coming up pretty quick. Nymph's Tears will be our pick if nobody objects. If Deflag is still on the board we go that route, and have a badass deck with only those two cards. If not, what do you guys want? Steal? Doesn't combine as well with Nymphs.... Get your top two up before we pick guys.

4 teams have chosen, and Nova and Black Hole are drafted :( .

I think using Nymph's Tears could be a great card, but would it fast enough? It takes 7 quantas. We could use a Rainbow-Water deck, but would it fast enough?
A nymph tears deck should be all water pillars you usually have enough for it by turn 2 or 3 max
ok, but we couldn't use other's nymph's skills. I think we also need Quantum pillars for that strategy

I you want to take it as first card I agree with you, for me this card can be treatable.

About the second, I'm considering taking Steal, because I think it works better than Deflag and has about the quite same cost (3 fire vs 4 dark).

Steal is great, but I've been testing nymph tears with fire, and deflag works well in there. The deck is 6x nymph tears, 3x deflag, 8 x fire pillar, 13 x water pillar and it's killing people in pvp1

If deflag is gone, we need to consider steal, but maybe not with nymph tears

I say we go for deflag / nymph tears too.. i have played with this deck and am winning in pvp1 quite a bit as well... after we get those two cards - go for all cards that will hurt us, like reverse, earthquake, dev, etc... followed by all low cost cards to prevent anyone from rushing us

Also just to mention that if we did Nymph / Steal deck, the ability of Dark Nymph is too slow to use for creature control

We're going to gamble that other people aren't targeting nymphs tears - since nymphs are banned. If deflag is gone - since steal doesn't work with tears, we should consider dev + fractal

Hey guys, the pick is in, it's arsenic. I'm going to plu gour picks of deflag and nymph tears, I know bpculture is in agreement. Alorx, are you on board with these picks as #1 and #2 for us?

Okay guys, with Nymph Tears and Deflag we have a complete deck only using those two cards. Purify will be a very nice addition, and if we can grab it we should asap. Otherwise, let's start thinking about what our back-up deck should do.

Alorx, a little bit about how this deck works... play your pillars asap. If you have 2 tears in your hand, and at least 2 fire pillars in play, bring out a fire nymph first (for creature control) then start spamming water nymphs every turn, using the nymph to create another one (cheaper cost - you wont need the rest of the tears - they are there just to ensure you get one out right away) once you get purify, cast it on a fire nymph, then have her rage up. Her HP will drop to 1, but she'll start healing immediately and you can rage her again in 2 turns. Don't do too much raging without purify until you're ready to go for the kill, or if you think you won't last that long. Nymphs are very tough and can take a lightning bolt or shockwave without dying, but once raged they are easy to kill. Once you're closing in on the kill, rage everyone up. Until then, the fire nymphs are there to kill enemy creatures. It's best to have at least 2 on the board, so you can use bpcultures method of destroying enemy pillars. Use your water nymph to turn an enemy pillar into a nymph, then kill her with 2 rages. Make sure you have enough quanta before giving your opponent a nymph like that, and only do it if it will cause them quanta lock in one element. This is a complete deck, we could play now. The rest of our cards are pure bonus.

Wow, cool method to destroy enemies' pillars.
The strategy of duo water/fire seems to be very clean, fast to do and funny.

Now I'd make a consideration, this desk is fast, but what about lobotomizers and other things that could damage nymphs?
I also thought about use some Aether Pillar for Immortal Nymphs, what do you think? (that could slow the desk so much, but protection is assured)

Deflag the lobos immediately, as for aether nymphs, that's the cool thing, we can change pillars every game, nobody knows what we'll bring to the table.

I'll be offline for the next 12 hours, we have to fumigate.... the draft is going [pretty fast but I'll definitely be back before our 12 horu time limit expires on picks 18 and 19. Right now I like purify, and maybe rev time, but not set on either of those. I'd be more apt to listen to you guys... a good shield would be nice too...

reverse is down
i go down for 12 hours at least, you can choose purify as next draw, but i'm not sure about the second.
My weapons: druidic staff, fahnenheit, trident, owl's eye (everything x1).

I thought about second choice: ice shield or mindgate or parallel universe (last 2 are for alternative strategy).

I love those choices.... Earthquake is also still on the board, would be good to lock that up.

BP wants to wait on purify, and start building a green rush deck.... thorn carapace is an automatic win vs teams without perm control - what do you think?

Although fire shield syncs up with our deflag nicely

Everyone put their top 3 cards available for the next two picks, in order.... we'll draft based on this.
#1 Fire Shield #2 Immolation #3 Earth Quake

I'm thinking... Earthquake, Thorn Caripice, Heal... not really sure.... scorpions and addrennaline?

I am thinking Immolation and Earthquake, 1 I think that team Polk is going to draft Immolation next and will stop them from their 1st build... Earthquake works against our Nymph deck and we can also build something cool with it in a cheap rainbow deck.

OKay Immo and Earthquake are the picks unless Alorx prefers something else...

I'm leaning toward purify over immo....
Okay, my vote is purify + earthquake... waiting on Alorx shoot, talking myself out of purify, I do like firewall

I like your choices, we really need taking some permanent that controls creatures, because we are without it.
I've seen a little the situation of other teams and I'm a bit worried about team Reagan, as matter of fact they seem to build a quanta-destroing team with Devourers and Black hole, but I think it's solvable using some strategy as using some creature-controlling cards, like Firewall or Thorn Carapace (they're great because work also on untargetable creatures.

For me the first choice should be Purify, it's going nice with our Nymph desk.

I was thinking we might be able to wait on picking purify because other teams might not take it? I guess the way to look at our pick is what benefits us more?  If we are starting a new "type" of deck... EQ and firewall would be a good start to a new theme

Purify and Firewall also have nice synergy

Alorx... what cards (elements) do you have most of?

I'd take Earthquake,  reasons are two: 1)It gains us a permanent control 2)I think team Reagan could plan about it
I also like Firewall, it's nice with our Water/Fire desk and we need a creature control.
Purify could be ok, but we also should see what other teams will want taking.
So Earthquake and Firewall.

Okay lets do it, Firewall and EQ... Purify in next round

I'm on board, good picks... and we can always go mono-fire, or firestall with healing in the future

Alorx, are you having any luck with the nymph deck in PvP1?

Take a look guys
http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,43275.new.html#new
Great! Now we can plan next draw / experiment / discuss some other strategy.

I'm getting some extra money playing Nymph deck against cpu, i'll play PvP1 soon, I want better the desk.

I thought about permanent distruction, there are only these cards that destroy them (don't count SoF): Steal, Deflagration, Earthquake, Trident and Butterfly Effect, right?

Hey Alorx, I want to watch your next game, tell me your opponents name, and I'll pop in in spectate mode
Ok, i'll check the desk a moment and i'm here

Oracle gave me a Blue Nymph, lol.

Very nice when you get nymphs from the oracle, they are the one thing I don't have a complete set of
http://www.elementsthegame.com/spectate.html

Baby duty here, be back in a few

Trying some fireshield - earthquake decks, with stone skin, very necessary ....

I just want to throw my computer out the window... lost 10 in a row with nymph deck - usually dead before I draw a single tears - and people in pvp1 keep tauning me saying "you suck"

Just lost #11, opponent had no earth quanta, but got an enchanted owls eye on the board... lovin this

Rut roh

Let's take enchant artifact off the board as one of our picks and grab rage potion as creature control... what do you think? Or, if purify is still on the board... I'd take that with enchant.... I don't know here...

For me it's Ok Purify and Enchant Artefact this rounds.

Im starting to lean toward hourglass... goes great with tears in a 40 card deck, more quantum, more pillars, more nymphs

We're on the clock, unless anyone changes their vote, it's purify and enchant

Wow.... guys, try this combo for the nymph deck...
5f5 5f5 5f5 5f6 5f6 5gi 5gi 5gi 5gi 5gi 5gi 5gi 5gi 5gi 5ig 5ig 5ig 5ig 5ig 5ig 5mq 5mq 5mq 5mq 5mq 5mq 5mq 5mq 5mq 5mq 8pp
It's blowing people up. Create only light nymphs (save your fire pendulums) to get your shield out, then just keep healing yourself. Game over quick if you can draw at least 3 nymph tears in the first half. You should EM quite a bit.

BP... can you build us an experimental deck using nymphs and hourglass? With tons of quantum pillars and any other elements you think will work? I need to find the right card count for it to work well. I've been trying it with 40 cards and 4 hourglasses, but maybe there's a better ratio.

If you use Mindgate with Quantum desk it also would be funny

I do like mindgate

What time do you think you will be on Junkers?  I have class and some meetings Tuesday 1730 Central Time

Should we think about taking pandemonium in the next round... it is something that will mess us up quite a bit... was just taken in the other draft

I'm more worried about mutation

Good point.. you know the rest =)
So what are we thinking for next round? Mitosis + Scorpion?  Mindgate? Hourglass?

Mitosis is gone... I'd love to have mindgate and hourglass
Have you tried that white nymph deck yet?

Let's grab immo, and maybe lava golem next round, what do you say? Hourglass hasn't worked for me in tests.

What about Steam Macchine? I think it's a nice card for Fire/Water Nimph desk, as support.
I also like Mindgate because you can use opponents' weapons against them (good for quantum deck).

ive got a really big deck =)
using red/blue/white/yellow   nymphs, can use steam and other growing creatures too

I'm starting to not like mindgate for our purposes just because it's very difficult to make it work without phase/shield and lightning, or devourer and steal. But I'm listening to your votes. I definitely want immolation, but if you guys like steam machine over lava golem I'm good with that...although doesnt match with immo.

So far:
Immo - 1 vote
Lava Golem - 1 vote
Steam Machine - 1 vote?
Mindgate - 1 vote

1 note about steam machines and lava golems, they are prone to reverse time, just like nymphs.

I like lava golems or fire spirits before steam machine... immo is something i think we should pick up for sure  so those are my votes... Immo, fire spirits, lava golems, steam machine, mindgate in that order

Steams are good, very resilient, but they might stick around - lava and immo wont be here long, as it's  a killer combo...

Alorx, I feel bad because we haven't gotten you your cards yet, but I'm talking to bpculture and it looks like we really need to stop anyone from getting lobotomizer. It completely shuts down nymphs. I know you don't have it, but we need to stop anyone else from using it. We'll try to pick up mind gate or steam next round. We've both had difficulty using the nymph deck in pvp when lobo comes out.

We should also take mind flayer asap...

No problems, you have done nice choice, lobotomizer is painful, so you neutralized it.
About Immolation, I'm not adverse: it makes fast fire quantas, so it's good for Fire Nymphs (that work really well against creatures), the only thing I don't understand is which creatures will you sacrifice.

Next round is x3 choice and the final is x4, that's nice!

Photons, sparks and gnomes are still available. If nobody drafts them we can use them, otherwise we'll take something in the last round. Next round we'll get your steam machine and mindgate, or lava golem if those aren't available. BP was talking about some green cards, the only green I want are thorn carapace and empathic bond, but they dont really fir what we're doing, except we can do green nymphs and adrenalize them.

Any thoughts with the upcoming three picks?  Junkers are you going to be on much the next few days?  How long will your visitor be in town?

Team Nixon looking at Pandebonium it looks like

Okay, here are my picks...
Mind Flayer, Hourglass, Mindgate, Lava Golem, Rain of Fire

If any of you guys also vote for any of those cards we'll grab them next round. Otherwise, I'm tempted to give Alorx whichever cards he absolutely needs at this point, since we've been making him wait on cards like Steam Machine.

I'm adding carapce, scorp and empathic bond to my list..... and momentum..... sheesh, I don't want much do I?

I'll get it whittled down here...
#1 Mind Flayer
#2 Lava Golem
#3 Momentum

Ok, from chosen cards I would take:
#1 Mindgate
#2 Rain of Fire
#3 Lava Golem / Steam Macchine (it's equal)
#4 Mindgate (I'm guessing one of these votes is for mind flayer?)
#5 Golden Hourglass

Okay seeing as Accell is gone... I am thinking
#1 Rain of Fire
#2 Mind Flayer
#3 Lava Golem
#4 Thorn Carapice
#5 Emp Bond
#6 Scorpion.... can I get more? =)

Okay, looks like based on our charts - it's mindflayer, rain of fire and lava golem...overall I think a very good combination for our water-earth-fire... steam machine might go undrafted, since nobody is building water-fire, I'm surprised that hourglass is still on the board, if it's there with our next pick we should nab it. I still think mindgate is tough to do without a block everything shield since it takes w while to get rolling.

It will be a while before we draft again, but here's my list as of right now: As usual, I keep rethinking cards I used to want...
#1 mutation
#2 heal
#3 hourglass

I don't think anyone will draft poseidon - but this version of the nymph deck has been doing very well for me..
58o 58o 58o 58o 58o 58o 58o 58o 58o 58o 593 593 593 594 594 5i4 5i4 5i4 5i4 5i4 5i4 5i4 5i4 5i4 5ic 5ic 5ig 5ig 5ig 5ig 8pm

next picks are our last 4, so make sure you put like 6 or so cards you want... I am still debating this... I wouldnt mind picking up 4 solid greens if they are available at the time

Yeah, I agree.... empathic bond is great in a green/blue nymph deck, although tough to get the quanta to bring it out. Heal is nice in rainbow, and I like scorps and carapace.

What is your strategy with the above deck... I dont have trident =/

Earthquake slows down the opponent, while earth nymphs freeze their creatures. You need to create a water nymph early because there are only 4 tears in the deck. If you get two nymphs out you can pretty much control the board and slowly chip away at their health, or you can spam nymphs from whatever pillars you have the most of.

What about building a firefly queen deck with our last 4 picks? I want to take mutation off the board, but we could draft any of these cards..
FFQ, Thorn Carapace, Hope, Rustler, Empathic Bond

About Nymphs, I didn't test this desk well, but try it:
4sa 4sa 4sa 4sa 4sa 4sa 4sa 4sa 4sa 4sa 5f0 5f3 5f4 5f5 5f6 5f6 5fc 5i4 5i4 5i4 5i7 5i9 5ig 5ig 5ig 5ig 5ig 5l8 5le 5le 5le 61o 623 623 8pp

Looks like we're on deck. Just waiting on Team Nixon.
I'm trying out your deck, although I took out cards we can't use, like Phoenix and Firebolt.

Green cards are going fast, maybe we should take druidic staff, since it's a weapon you both have. And thorn carapace and scorp should work well with it.

Momentum and Dune Scorp would also make a lot of sense...

Damn, there goes our emp bond idea from last night.. heal is gone too... what were the other 3 green cards we were talking about... like you mentioned scorp isn't much of a threat to us  because we have creature control...

If you can wait to make the pick till tomorrow AM that would be good... I will be back on at 5am CET

Alorx what time zone are you in?
 I'm in Italy, so I'm UTC+1
What about you two? If we want to meet online everyone we should see the most possible time.

Okay the 12 hour time limit for Nixon is coming up. I want to make our picks as soon as possible...
Here are my final votes
#1 Mutation
#2 Momentum
#3 Dune Scorpion

Home and on Skype... let me know when you are ready.... we have 4 picks

I like the idea of a scorp deck or even a cat / vulture deck

green nymphs with carapace and staff
5bs 5bs 5bs 5bs 5bs 5bs 5bs 5bs 5bs 5bs 5c3 5c3 5c3 5c5 5c5 5c8 5c8 5c8 5c8 5c8 5c8 5i4 5i4 5i4 5i4 5i4 5ig 5ig 5ig 5ig 8pp

Alorx, we're debating our final 4 picks here... basically we want to take out any cards we're afraid of (mutation) then get 3 cards that will help complete a nice rainbow deck... since nobody has purify, we're seriously considering heavy poison with momentum

getting ready to post the pick, bpculture has come around to my way of thinking... the picks are going to be green scorp, dune scorp, momentum and mutation if there are no objections

About mindgate.... I've been playing numerous games with mindgate and our cards... it just hasn't been working.

Here's the scorp deck
4sa 4sa 4sa 4sa 4sa 4sa 4sa 4sa 4sa 4sa 4vk 4vk 52l 52l 55q 55q 55q 55q 5c8 5c8 5c8 5c8 5if 5if 5lc 5lc 5rt 5rt 5rt 5rt 8ps

We need to start working out our deck ideas vs different teams. I'm happy to get online and be the scout team - that means I'll build a deck that I think our opponents will use against us, and you guys can try different variations with our cards until you get something that wins consistently.

List any decks you're planning on using with our cards, and undrafted cards here...

It won 2 games, and had perfect speed/balance. The final game was won vs parallel universe, he was creating nymphs from his own pillars, with a PU's water nymph, I was doing the same thing to him, and rage potioning them. Before he knew it, he didn't have any pillars.

Immo Golem Rush w/Dragons

This was an extremely fast kill, but needs tweaking based on opponent

Notes:  Our closest thing to a stall right now is pandebonium.  If we want to be more stall-y we could always try something with heal + thorn carapace Not sure if heal is enough, but there are indeed tons of CC available

Next opponent Team Carter
Creature Control they have available (pool and undrafted), bold is from the undrafted pool and so also available to us:
Antimatter
Mutation
Fallen Elf
Virus
Plague
Aflotoxin
Gravity Pull
Arctic Squid
Ice Bolt
Flooding
Thunderstorm
Reverse Time
Drain Life
Lobotomiser

We have available
Virus
Plague
Aflotoxin
Gravity Pull
Rage Potion,
Ice Bolt
Flooding
Unstable Gas
Thunderstorm
Drain Life
Liquid Shadow
Lobotomiser

In their drafted pool they have no actual creature removal, only AM and Reverse Time. They have no access to Ghost of the Past, so their Nightmare is stall only. However, they have Discord and Arctic Squid, as well as Miracle, cards that in their own right allow for stalling tactics, miracle even more so since Morning Star is undrafted and they have Crusader (not sure if Crusader can target Morning Star though, but certainly Discord).

With Vampire Stiletto, Black Dragon and Drain Life they might go for Darkness as a long-term victory condition, but this seems unlikely since there is little synergy with the rest of their pool; however, these cards are strong enough to warrant a Control deck build around them, somewhat in the lines of Entropy/Darkness DisruptAggro with Discord, Lycanthrope, Nightmare for tempo advantage and Black Dragon/Drain Life to get past the midgame.

A reason they might splash Aether is the availability of Lobotomiser in the Undrafted Pool; with Arctic Squid and Toadfish in their pool and Ice Bolt and Flooding undrafted in Water, access to Quintessence (and even Immortal) might tempt them to go for ultimate creature control. In such a Water/Aether deck they would aim for a reliable middle-term win by having untargetable creatures and the opponent having all of theirs drowned/neutralized. This is a tactic I would use against us since mono-death is just to fast to counter with random Entropy I think.

We have 15 out of 15 Death cards available to us, I congratulate you on isolating this Element for team Kennedy. Cheers =)

This is a general observation: I don't think there is much they can do against us rushing Mummies and poison all over the board; that said I don't reckon they have in their pool any worthwhile cards to Steal, perhaps only the Vampire Dagger to prevent them 2 or 3 extra turns to stabilize.

Also, Purify is out of the tournament (drafted in both pools and both those teams are out of the tournament). Since that is the only hard counter to Poison I think we are in the luxury position of being absolutely save against the one-card wrecking strategy against poison.

Also, I might see a possible Vulture/Schrodinger's Cat/Bonewall Stall deck work with Pandemonium, Chaos Seed, Mutation and Maxwell Demon to back it up. I have to admit that I have encountered such decks a lot recently and they don't seem that strong if the Cat is killed systematically. Without the Cat this deck falls apart quickly and even at best this deck will only be useful if we suspect the opponent will try to win on freezing or RT'ing large creatures; in this case early multiple Vulture/Cat and Demon/Dragon with a Bonewall backup might surprise them.

vs. Mono Entropy
Finally, I get to go first! Arsenic in play, now seeing if I can make to the end.
Discord, oc. Up vs 2 Max Demon. Diss Shield..
Only need to get a shield in play, have only 4 pillars though.
And there is the purple dragon. I play shield, which'll die in two turns.
Trying to stabilize, but only 8 poison counters vs diss shield with 14 quantum behind.
second shield is failing and EVERY turn fire quanta is scrambled
DEAD.

Nixon VS Polk
Polks drafted cards revolve around quanta (Discord Trident) and creature controll (Firebolt Freeze Squid Toadfish Owl Eye UG RT)

Due to the large amount of CC Opening with a creature based deck is unwise, if they are repeatedly playing a deck without CC (EG their discord mono entropy) feel free to mix things up.  Otherwise I would suggest the best course of action is top open with a Entropy/Death deckout, and encourage them to avoid their CC decks to open more options for later games.
If opening with titanpult I would suggest adding 1 catapult, just incase of freeze/squid with trident quanta control.

High likelihood decks (Please add to this list, And list the deck you think is best):
Mono Entropy: Discord, Abom, Purple Dragon (Death/Aether) or (Mono death)
Mostly Water: Trident, Icedragon Icebolt Freeze/Squid (Titanpult)
Water CC: Trident, Freeze, Squid, Toadfish
Unstable Bolt: Fahrenheit, Fire bolt, Owl Eye, UG (Emerald/Reflective Shield) (Titanpult)

Im sure there are decks for LS and RT that they could run, but I dont expect they will use them except maybe RT vs repeated Titanpult.

    Polk
They lead they're poll because they got good players and cards.. take em really seriously!
They have many good options, entropy decks with disco but a bit unlikely against us since we have nova decks.   Also, a squid + disco for insanely low deck from us is possible. Farenheit + fire bolts is a deadly combo by itself, add phoenixes to it and it becomes really hard to beat.  Luckily we got reflective shield for bolts and BB for phoenixes but we gonna need em against bolts because farenh is deadly if they know we cant steal/deflag it.  Also, Owls eye is a graboid killer so beware how many you  take in that deck.  Lastly, RT is a big problem if we bring 6 graboid and/or forest spirit to grow.  I suggest we go with some sort of nova deck every time and heavy on quanta because of disco.

Taft
That should be a good matchup for us because they got a ghostmare deck that is really risky against us.  they also have Dimension shield, so momentum are a must.  They can go with fractal stuff, so titanium shield can be a life saver.  They could also use phase dragons so go easy on BB.

They have no PC, and no drafted CC. Would a Momentum-Dune Scorpion-Eternity deck work? sure could.. we have a deck like this below We do? Sorry, I haven't read most of them yet...I will now

Lincoln

This team wants stalls big time!  They got an earth/gravity gombo of grav shield +plate armor, bb, warden, pulvy  and ss to slow decks down!  They also have antimatter that we must check.  Lastly they have wings and dissip shield to slow us.  Dune scorpion deck with eternity looks great here too.  Momentums are a must here again in any deck and bb could be real helpful for those wardens!

Reagan
They have bh and will likely wanna use it against us.. STAY AWAY from novas :P  That being said, they have devourers so we need many quanta in the decks.  They will also duo that with some steals so try to use as few permanents as possible and get enchant artifact when able to.  They can go with some life rush, if they  do, eternity is a must for returning the adren/mitosis cards, or tit shield for a lame 1 damage each time

Nixon
They got catatitans and pandebonium deck.  Both are too slow/weak vs graboid deck.  Just keep grabs unevolved if you see a potential pandemonium coming.

Bush

they got a nice fire/earth combo includimg llava golems, deflags, firestorms and eq. They also got lobo and mind flayer, so no momentum here for us!.   Theu got purify also so no need for scorpions anyway.  I think most rush without perms should do well here.  Or grav earth duo with enchant artifct to protect the gravity shield.

obama
they have catatitans that could include bh to counter our novas, frogtal and devtal and a nymph rush

a time-earth duo with titanium shield and eternity
or even a grabbow should beat it
titanium shield blocks scorpions, frogs, devourers
they can use catatitans but its slower than grabbow generally
or they will have to use a different creature, like fractal chargers which is even slower
since they know we have the upper hand on most stuff, I expect many fractal dev from em hoping for no grabbow grom us,  Maybe we should put the tit shield    in grabbow in case of fractal

 roosevelt
are fire air guys so some dragon deck should do good. either mono earth or some duo including earh because they are likely to come with ffq and/or deflag so tit shield and pa will be really helpful.  We want stone dragons and maybed phoenix to counter wings, I'd stay away from grabbow even with momentum cause they have too much cc.

 kennedy
has very disturbing amount of cc and all to make bonewalls last forever
we can counter that pretty easily with unevolved grabs in case of any entropy quanta (pandemonium) they have steal so we must be sure to include pa if we come with permanants.

  Harrison
many major permanents: pulvy to destroy our stuff + eq for total denial, dimension shield which will force us to use momentum, but they have warden and lightnings to slow our creatures while they can use pu to speed themselves.
This will be hard, maybe trident + pu to protect from pulvy and deny enough quanta so they wont be able to use theyre precious and costy aether quanta

  Carter
entropy heaven, they will hit often with discord and am... grabbow will counter that. they  might also duo light/darkness with crusaders and stiletto + miracle for extreme healing.  We could counter that with some bb for crusaders in earth deck or grabbow, a couple of mind flayers to prevent crusaders from having they're bonus is really important ** note bring 2-3 more quanta if not playing nova against em to counter discord because they'll use it a  ton

skeleton decks to work from: DO NOT use as is, modify with the approoriate teams as needed

JB's stuff
I'm bored, so I'm going to just post my matches.
Round 1 against RootRanger(Carter). I go in with a Grabbow. Turn one - I play Nova and then...wait for it...Deja Vu. Immediately, I think: Damn. I'm screwed. I lose fairly badly. He played a Entropy splash Time Mark + Rewind. Onto game two!
Go in with Dune Scorps + Momentum - Gravy mark, with six Dunes, six Moments, 3 Ternities, some hourglasses, and not enough pillars for against Discord. He played same deck as above, I believe. Lose
Game 3, I go in with basically the same deck. This time, I manage to beat him barely. He was playing Mono Entropy this time, and my Eternity locked him down, I think.
Game 4, I go in with...Dune Scorps! Against Entropy/Time again. His Discords screw my Gravy Quanta, so I don't get a Dune Scorp out for a while. Lose

Match 2:
Against Laxa (Taft)
I go in with my now-patented Dune Scorps against what I fear may be a Ghostmare, but it winds up a Ghostal. I beat him, literally, by one Quanta. My Procrastination was able to lock his Ghosts down enough to let my Dune Scorps kill him, and he got me down to 2 HP with 5 Time Quanta (1 short of a Ghost) left. I won next turn via poisons.
Game 2:
I, again, play Dune Scorps. Forget what I was up against - perhaps Ghostal again. Then again, I don't even remember if I played Dune Scorps. Regardless, I won.
Game 3:
I play a Grabbow, this time sans Deja Vu. And I lose. To what, I forget. Remind me to ask Laxa about our games. Anyway, I hate Grabbows. -> Actually, I think this was BUd Steamies
Game 4:
Go into a Mono-Earth (Mark of Time) Earth rush. I beat a Gargoylemare/ Nightfalled Deathstalker by quite a large amount. I can do Graboids, just not Grabbows.

Match 3 (against Junkers filling for Alorx, team Bush)
Game 1: Gogogo...Nothing! xD
I used your guys' advice, and went with a Protected Gravy Shield/B Blood/Plate Armor against a mono fire rush containing pillars, shields, RoFs, Deflags, and dragons. That's it. Went 32 card deck. Beat him easily; his only damage sources were the Dragons, where one Plate Armor put them above the Gravy Shield's limit. He conceded about 3 turns left.
Game 2: I used the same deck as game 1, and he used...Chrysoara Poison. I quit early on.
Game 3: Dune Scorps! <3 against...Fire Nymph Tears. I lost fairly badly. Raging Nymphs kill Scorps. :(
Game 4: Mono Earth Time-mark against same Fire Nymph Tears. I won fairly easily; B Blood is awesome. :)
Game 5: Mono Earth Time-mark against...Light/Life Duo! Waitwhat? He hoped to throw me off, so he went Holy Lights, Thorn Carapaces, Morning Stars ( I think) and Scorps - against Titanium Shield. Won fairly easily again.

Strategies for CARTER :

wings/spider deck for Carter
http://elementscommunity.org/forum/decks/cache/z552jz55ocz55ofz55ooz85pu8pk.jpg
32 cards to win incase of deckout
Antimatter is a huge problem

WINGBOW for Carter
same as below but with the following changes :
3 pendulums out for 3 stone pillars
graviton,dragon,warden,blessing out
5 BB in
31 cards deck
Strategy: Play nova and hope discord leaves enough quanta for wings,Wings block discord and abominations,BB any dragons ASAP
Problems : They have chaos seed and antimatter, which means graboids have to stay burrowed. We need MOAR damage dragon?
Plus, once they figure out we rely on wings, they can just put 6 dragons 6 antimatters and wtfpwn us. and say hi to our gravy stall?  you seem way too confident, testing shows that both our stall and bow lose to monoentropy I do not see the wingbow lose to the MonoE. Stall => more quantum to counter discord. Oh nvm. Stall suffers with the dragons being only 5hp

*always too confident*
GravyEarth stall:
Same  as below but instead of plate armor, wardens.Reason is that they have  chaos seed which can be used on their own creatures.Last time odii used  that against me and killed me Wardens are awfully weak to CC though.
we  need to test this a bit to figure it's probabilities of winning. Also we  cant use this more than once since they will propably smarten up and  use bigger decks to avoid deckout

Card draft list:

Drafting Strategy: We have none

we have b00bie lol

Team =
Polk : no pattern? Discord, Rt, Phoenix, Fire Shield/Bolt
Taft : ghostal/mare (ghost, fractal, dim), Nightmare, Poison
Us : grabbow (nova, graboid, sw)
Reagan : darkness (steal, dev), black hole, Mitosis <= pestosis
Nixon : bonebolt (arse, boners, lightnings) And miracle
Bush : no pattern, JUST LIKE PRESIDENT BUSH (NT, deflag, fire shield, earthquake)

cards drafted:

pick 1 : Nova
pick 2 : Graboid
pick 3 : Shockwave
pick 4 : Pulverizer
pick 5 : Wings
pick 6 : Sundial
pick 7 : Antimatter
pick 8 : Dissipation
pick 9 : Lycanthrope
pick 10 : Basilisk Blood
pick 11: Stone Skin
pick 12 : Gravity Pull
pick 13 : Iridium Warden
pick 14 : Gravy Shield?
pick 15 : Plate Armor?

Teams to worry about (due to either members, card choices, or both):
Polk - Members (just picking strong cards thus far, not much of a strategy)
Taft - Mainly card choice (Ghostal)
Lincoln - I have a feeling they'll epic-mindgate us
FDR - Goodishlier members, I guess
Carter - Maj and Root make a good combo, so may be a problem
JFK? - dunno, guess I haven't seen much of what regen/Viney can do
Harrison - Only if Anna becomes active
Jackson - Oni hax.

top priority cards to pick : graboid, discord, poison, lava golem, devourer, fractal, dimshield nova? yes, dunno how I missed it >.< lolnub
noyounub

secondary priority : arsenic,deflag, steal,blackhole,earthquake

Tertiary (yes, it is a word) priority : Possible FW + any weapon that would be useful (OEs, Staves, etc)

[23:41] plastiqe well, lets say Team Lincoln ends up in 3rd for Draft the First
[23:41] plastiqe the first team would draft a card, then the second team, then your team
[23:42] plastiqe and then picks continue in "snake" order until Team Lincoln drafts another card with the 10th pick
see : http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,43275.0.html

Spoiler for Franklin Delano Roosevelt:
...

Spoiler for Team Jimmy Carter:
Welcome to your Draft III headquarters.  Use this area to plan your drafting stratetgy and deck choices.  Good luck and have fun!

-all undrafted draft B cards are at the bottom of this window; add corrections if needed
-standalone marks are allowed, so remember to use them in place of pillars where available

game 1 vs ten men: monoentropy mirror, won coin toss but i had bad quanta and he had great, so even discord couldn't stop him 0-1
game 2 vampire crusaders (was hoping he'd go with monofire rush or something) and he goes with squid/sanc stall.  i concede after ahe gets a squid and i can't kill it
game 3 I try a rainbow stall, thinking he'll go monodiscord again, and qp > discord.  he does indeed go monoentropy, but didn't even get discord.  he gets lots of abo/dragon instead, and my qps troll and i manage to cast one card all game, instead getting almost all my quanta in elements for which i had no cards in the deck

Spoiler for Team James K. Polk:

Ice Stall - normales ME 1-0
ME - Splash RT 2-0
MF - ME Stall (AM/Diss Shield/Dragons/Discord, 40 Karten) 2-1
ME - ME mit CS (32 Karten) 3-1

Gegen Carter
aus der Gruppenrunde:
- loss Chrysoaras + Quantum Pillars vs Mono Entropy
- loss DejaHope vs Entropy splash RT
- win Ice Stall vs Mono Entropy
- win Mono Entropy vs Mono Water
- loss Mono Entropy vs Mono Entropy

- normales ME vs normales ME 50:50
- normales ME vs modifiziertes ME (mit AM und DissShield) vielleicht so 35:65?
- irgendein gutes nicht-Entropy deck a là Ice Stall vs modifiziertes ME leicht positiv für uns
- irgendein gutes nicht-Entropy deck a là Ice Stall vs normales ME loss

Gegen Roosevelt

Habs jetzt wenige Male, 4-5 Mal gegen Mono Death ausprobiert. Müsste klappen, denke ich.

Mono Entropy ist eig. auch recht stark. Wobei gegen BW es teilweise problematisch wird.

Ice Stall ist effektiv, einzige Schwäche ist CataTitan.

OK um mal zusammenzufassen was wir haben:

- mono Entropy:
15 Pillar, 4 Discord, 5 Abomination, 6 Purple Dragon

- mono Fire:
16 Pillar, 3 Fahrenheit, 5 Phoenix, 6 Fire Bolt

- Firestall
10 Pillar, 5 Pends, 6 Fire Bolt, 3 Fahrenheit, 6 Sanctuary
Naja. Da fehlt schon noch was leider.

Jo könnte man machen.

I don't like having declassified pads.  Whether it's War or another team event, pads are supposed to be private discussion and it makes me feel awkward writing there knowing that other people will read it later.

Especially having them declassified before the end.  What I've read here I've already seen and/or predicted as possible decks, but if there was a secret deck that I had only used against one team and was now declassified to everyone I'd feel horrible for letting my team down.

Since no one else wants to say much, I guess I will break the ice.  Wall of text incoming.

Spoiler for Things I enjoyed:
I had a lot of fun with this event, and I look forward to participating in the next one.  From the disappointment of having someone take a card you expected to last another round to the excitement of a bunch of tense battles, this event really kept me entertained.  Kudos to plastiqe for crawling out of his hole to host it.

Speaking of tense battles, I had some wonderfully close matches where a good choice of decks, a few simple mistakes, or a timely draw were enough to swing the victory.  And every time I do one of these events, I am amazed by what a wonderful community we have.  Every opponent was a pleasure to play against and made the event that much more enjoyable.

As for the team, I had originally wanted to get a team together first and join as a group, but then I might not have had the pleasure of teaming with Annamall.  He was a workhorse and the driving force of our team.  His creativity (32 card deckouter without RT/Eternity?) and commitment were extraordinary (take note, future Generals).  It was unfortunate that Jocko did not have much opportunity to contribute as RL commitments took him away from us too soon and kept him from participating as much as he would have liked, and he eventually chose to step aside.  I would also like to say thanks to ian for stepping in for a round when we were down a man and to ddevans, the Teammate Who Almost Was.

As for the event itself, I learned a lot by taking part.  Trying to find answers to the powerful card combinations your opponents had available was quite the challenge as was making do with the unsung heroes at hand.  Trying to guess what others would take was also complicated.

Spoiler for Possible issues:
I find it interesting that the top teams were all from the first half of their respective drafts.  At first glance, one might assume that early picks are the key to success, but history does not support that.  A glance at the teams will show that they are loaded with skilled PvPers, and I saw no evidence they were plagued by inactivity like some of the underperfoming teams.  I am curious if drafting early gave these great players an even greater edge, though.  Tough to say.

Although I consider it the most fair way of doing it, I did not enjoy the snaking draft.  Being able to pick multiple cards at once seems like it would make it much easier to select cards that are powerful in combination.  I am not sure that really played out to any great extent, but it seems like it could.

Spoiler for Changes/Things done differently:
I would like to see the card draft handled similarly to standard CCG draft, where each team is given a pack of cards, choose one, and pass it around.  Cards no one picks from a pack are available to everyone.  That might be better served as a different event, but I think that could be a lot of fun.  You are not quite sure what other teams are bringing.

Maybe you could add some elements to make it more like a fantasy football draft--bye weeks/waivers/trades.  Not sure the event lasts long enough for this, but a little something to spice up the repeat matches would be nice.  We had four matches in three rounds against the same team (could have been five).

tl;dr:  It was a fun event, and nothing really needs to change.

Side note:  We were the only team whose duration in the event was longer than their president's term.  I will call that a win.

Forgive the doubling up, but I do not think this belongs in my other post.

As a member of an eliminated team, I will agree with Cheesy on the declassification of TitanPads.  Intel on a team still playing should not be made public.  To me, it is roughly the equivalent of sharing information during the event (a rather one-sided trade, though).

We (by we, I mean Anna) put a lot of work into ideation and testing against our upcoming opponents.  To make that work available could disadvantage the teams we played.  Perhaps one of our opponents used a surprise deck or we managed to find a good counter using mostly undrafted cards.

I have no qualms about the information becoming available after the event, and it is too late to undo it, but I would prefer not to make it public until after the event has been completed.

Don't split the drafting into 2 groups..... it turns an otherwise fun event into a horrible one.

I'll draft Discord, so only I can use it.... what I lose to Discord????

What that team got a lot of good cards and there was nothing I could do about it???

Should have left it how it was.... Team PvP won't be for a long, long time now.. since this was Team PvP.

Interesting that you noticed that just now.
Well, in your final battle you had 1 of 4 mirror matches. The problem is, that many teams are not balanced enough. If Purplue Dragon and Abomination wouldn't be picked by our teams, the tournament would be more balanced. And only discord didn't make the event oneside. I like your pvpskills and your ambition, thats why you are one of the most skilled pvp'er for me. The bigger challange is to find a deck that is hard to counter and similar to your own. Sorry I'm a bit muzzy xD

There were essentially 2 mirrors.

•What did you enjoy about this event?
I liked that it produced some interesting decks that I don't normally play with, due to only being able to use the cards you drafted and the leftover junk.

•What improvements would you like to see for next time?
The draft itself took a long time.  I think what happened was that the teams were arranged in a bad way with respect to time zone in our side (draft B), since draft A moved along quite a bit faster.  I'd like to see only one draft group to prevent this in the future, but that would prevent a full 12 teams from playing effectively (and I know this is why plastiqe made two draft groups in the first place, to allow more to participate).  I'd still suggest going with one group of 8 instead.

•What were the factors in your teams success or failures?
Success: Drafting Discord #1 helped a ton.  It was way better than either of our other top two choices that we were eyeing would've been. (dimshield and steal)  When drafting, we also took careful watch of what other people were leaning towards, and would either try to draft ahead of them anything they might want that we wanted, or to leave for future rounds anything we thought we wanted but that might be overlooked by others.  In a few cases, this worked well, as we were able to utilize maxwell's demon and dissipation shield as undrafted cards, and I used both of those quite often.  In other cases, it backfired; team obama drafted black hole right before we did.  We had left it alone because nobody else was touching gravity, and we already had discord.  We still have no idea why they drafted it, unless it was simply to deprive us of it.  A few other cards went immediately before we were going to take them; I remember pandemonium, bone wall, sanctuary, silence, and ghost of the past being some that this happened to us to, although the ghost we fully expected to be taken from us since we had just drafted nightmare.

Failures: Well, we got second, so we didn't fail too hard :p  (I think we only lost one match before the finals)  The reason we lost in the finals, though, was because team polk had managed to draft more 'power' cards than we did, and they as a result had a lot more deckbuilding options than we did.  In draft B, the 'power' cards were a little more evenly distributed.  (I realize I've somewhat obliquely insulted the draft skills of several teams in group A by this statement, and I apologize, but that's simply how I felt it turned out)

•What strategic advice would you give to future draft teams?
Don't do 'hate drafting'.  What I mean by that is picking a card not because you can use it, but because you want to deny it to someone else.  If you want to draft something that you know someone else wants, make sure you can actually make use of it.  Some teams drafted some good cards, but I know that they couldn't possibly have made any use of them because they had nothing else in element for them.  For example, team obama drafted rain of fire, which is in itself a good card, but it was the only fire card they drafted, and they drafted it after most of the other good fire stuff had already been taken, and I would be very surprised if they ever used it in any of their decks.

Almost two months is longer than I would have liked.  Three man constructed teams as opposed to captain drafting had several purposes, but among them was speeding up the entire process.  I wanted to do two drafts because generally the card picking phase is everyone's favourite part and having smaller teams and more teams gave more players an opportunity to get involved.  There is something to be said for the All Star Pvper Teams that ended up dominating the event, so teams might be more mixed between veterans and noobs next time.

I would like to pick more cards next time.  I'm thinking of adding extra rounds where you get 3 picks in a row because there were still many useful cards among each sides undrafted.  So it might be like picks 1-54 are singles, 55 to 90 are doubles and then 91-150 are triples.  I also have an idea for like an unofficial live booster drafting event that could be a test run to see how difficult it would be to do at least some of the drafting live next time.  So maybe I'd pick a Saturday after sign ups and do live drafting for at least the single picks.  I might ban Discord next time, we'll see.  Draft IV probably needs a new rule giving 10 Men's team a penalty to even the playing field for the rest of the players too.  : P

I was pretty happy with the World Cup format for matches, it was especially useful to be eliminating teams because players went AFK or the team just didn't work out or whatever.  Stuff happens but at least the whole event wasn't held back by a few players this time.  I might bring back "trading" where after the opening round and the group round the top teams get to steal cards from the bottom teams as they are eliminated, which would be a reward for playing well in the early rounds.

Personally, I think this is why we need a player draft - to balance teams.

The world cup style is definitely better than the previous format. Trading should return as a transfer of drafted cards from eliminated teams to everyone else.
