Hello Elementals!

Inspired by the previous Idea Guru Threads (1) (2), we'd like to present Ask a Fellow Designer!

This thread acts like Ask a Simple Question, Get a Simple Answer for design - simply post any quick questions you have about design here; we strongly encourage fellow card designers to respond to the latest questions on this thread!

While all  EtG game design questions are welcome, we recommend questions here be focused on card design and questions that would help/benefit card designers new and old the most.

Happy asking and answering!

Elements doesn't have a single card that directly reduces a creature's attack.(Unless you count antimatter)

Is this intentional? And how would you balance such a card if it existed?

Not sure if intentional, really. I can't imagine that Zanz had a reason not to have one, probably just didn't cross his mind.

I would balance it off . Seeing as how they cost 8 | 6, I would immediately think to balance it to 4 | 3, since it's reducing half the amount of attack on a target that Antimatter would. However, then I realize that this new card would not heal, and drop it to 3 | 2. I would probably give it to a CC-less element, like Light.

it exist in open etg, the name is "pacify", and is a  :light spell that cost 3 | 2 and set the atk of the target creature to 0

is really soft cc, since the card can still use the skill, but in a element without cc at all, can work

Curse was a  :darkness card idea that was an inverted Blessing. There was a  :darkness Shield suggested that reduced attack by 1 per attack.

In all these cases reducing the enemy's attack is akin to damage prevention and similar to regeneration. Remember that most CC has damage prevention as a side effect.

Huh? I've played this game for some years and yet I didn't realize this kind of thing at all. :o

Is your deck pre-generated when you start a game? That is to say, is there a set order to the cards you draw, with RT putting cards on top, or are cards just randomly picked from ones you haven't drawn yet?

Given how mulligan works, it's most likely pre-generated.
