Title: Nymphomania Time - Eternity Lock added
Post by: zse on October 06, 2010, 12:40:07 pm
Lately I've been testing many variations of Nymphomania decks, and I've been trying to think how I could change em for better performance. And when I was browsing some decks I've used, the idea for this deck was born: Add :time for Eternity Lock! (= Prevent opponent from getting new cards by returning creatures back to deck every turn.)

Here are the rough beta versions of the decks:
:entropy :time :aether version

How this works?
1) Nymph Tears turns Towers/Pendulums to Nymphs.
2) :entropy Nymph allows you to Antimatter creatures, so you don't lose as easily to creature rush.
3) Eternity can further slow down enemy by returning some creatures back to deck.
4) Mind Flayer Lobotomizes creatures.
5) :water Nymph turns opponents Pillars/Towers/Pendulums to Nymphs, and then you return those back to deck = Eternity Lock. OR alternatively you Antimatter and Lobotomize those poor Nymphs.
6) When you get the game locked with Eternity, you can draw & play all your cards. You'll just stall your opponent and slowly grind the victory while returning creatures with Animated Eternities.

I haven't really tested this yet, but it should be strong enough to win HB's (AI5). Not sure if this is fast enough for FG's, but I'll report soon how this works there.

I've thought about a similar idea recently, but I'm afraid this deck might lack speed, and is prone to bad draws. I'm not sure, you'd have to test first, but it might be an idea to focus on just the eternity + water nymph lockdown. Ironically, that would make it a lot weaker against other eternities though.

I think that since this deck has hourglasses, it won't be too slow, although you probably should focus a bit more on the water nymph lockdown idea.

why use rewind when you can just antimatter...

Rewind sends creature back to top of deck.  Repeat this.  Your opponent can no longer gain any new cards to help them out of this situation.  When your opponent has been locked down, stick a nail in their coffin.  Antimatter is used to keep damage away from the controller, however it is practically powerless before the Eternity stall effect being used here.

Also, if you just use antimatter, you're letting the opponent keep the nymphs you're creating, which could be quite bad depending on the element of your opponent.

But rewind and antimatter don't have much synergy... Isn't this just a mass creature control deck then?

True. This is where the Mind Flayer steps into mix Lobotomizing the creatures that are on table.

Well, kind of. But taking out Towers generates slowly Quantum-denial. And Rewinding creatures adds the lock that disables drawing new cards. And on top of that, there is that lone Butterfly Effect that allows additional permanent control. When you think all those things, I'd say this is more "Stall with Total-Control" deck than merely "Creature Control".

The preliminary tests with this deck haven't been that great, so it's obvious lots of tweaking is needed. But like I said earlier, this build is just test version of the idea. Although Pendulums help a lot, building reliable quanta base for Quartet-deck isn't as easy as I expected. I've thought making a drastic move by dropping out :entropy, and adding SoG's for lifegain. Couple of Quantum Towers could help playing those and still allow using Butterfly...

Tried that with pretty good results on HBs, deck code posted in 1st message.
