I really enjoy creature generating cards. But best about this is it's next to free for skeletons, other than the initial card play cost.

Great when used in the mutate recycle loop.

So, I've seen a few decks around the forums where the unupgraded version is chosen intentionally over the upgraded version.  Does anyone have have any insight on why this is?  The only reason I've come up with is that they want to be able play it earlier, but is that really such an advantage?  And often times there are only two used in a deck, so there is little guarantee that one will hit the board early anyway, and I see 2/2s being much better then 1/1s . . .   so, my own thoughts aside, is there something I'm missing concerning the intentional use of the unupgraded version?

The unupgraded is simply cheaper and arguably better as to get out earlier and start your combos, which most Boneyard based decks are based around.  Also, in a majority of the decks, they are being used as fodder for Devour, Mutation, and Reverse Time, so the skeleton type doesn't matter as much and, in some cases, help.

Also, it may have just been generated by a SoSe.

To add to what drake said - yes, a 2/2 is better than a 1/1, but how often is it used for attacking? Since the Skeles are so often and so easily blocked, it's often better to use them for other purposes, and therefore cheaper is better in that regard. If there's few in the deck, there might likely be other forms of generating.

You guys forgot the most important reason, which has been arguably the only one ever since SG - Bow.

Un-upped does the job just as well as skeletons are usually mutation or some other kind of fodder. It is also important in these decks for that reason.

So, all in all, upped and un-upped do the same thing, except un-upped has one less quanta.

Then why pick un-upped?

It is less important in the targeting criteria for the AI. It means it will have a lower chance of being targeted until most of your other permanents are wiped out. Since it is often "crucial" in the decks that it is in, for the fodder, making sure it will be less targeted is the way to go.

Hi!

I have a question about how the boneyard works.

"Every time a creature is killed"... why are there some times that it seems not to get activated??? Many times, I have suffered a light storm and no skeleton came to my field (the same with some creatures killed by plague, or other different cards). What does the game consider "kills"???

Skeletons don't generate other skeletons when they die. Maybe that's why.

2/2 or 1/1 isn't a big difference. But whether or not I decide to use the upped or un-upped its more dependent on my decks  :death use. If I have a 60 card rainbow + Hourglass deck which only uses  :death for Boneyard/Graveyard I would more likely pick the upped version to not make waste of the  :death . Unless it was a rush deck of course. Many people may find 1/1 2/2 a little difference however doubling the damage is a notable difference for decks that are slow (Non-Rush) or tend to have a lot of creature control thus creating a field full of skeletons  eg 5x2/2 over 5x1/1  = 10/10 over 5/5
