Deckbuilding Competition: The Face of Mother Nature
No matter where in the internet universe you are, we've all been affected by Natural Disasters.
We really only have Mother Nature to blame, but let's put a face to the chaos.

Here's what you do: Build a deck based off of one Natural Disaster that actually occurred in the last one hundred years (from 1915-2015). The decks use specific elements based on what type of natural disaster, where, and when.

If this disaster occurred in the Eastern Hemisphere - You must use  :aether in your deck.
If this disaster occurred in the Western Hemisphere - You must use  :entropy in your deck.
If the disaster occured on both hemispheres, use the one where the largest effect happened. If you can't determine this, pick one.

You MAY build a deck on a disaster more than 100 years old, but then you must include :time in your deck, making your deck a quartet.

Tornado - :air + :earth
Earthquake / Rockslide - :earth + :gravity
Impact from Space - :gravity + :darkness
Solar Flare - :fire + :darkness
Wildfire - :fire + :life
Avalanche / Blizzard - :water + :light
Hurricane / Typhoon - :water + :air
Epidemic - :life + :death
Volcano / Drought - :fire + :earth
Tsunami  / Flood - :water + :earth
Human Caused - :life + :gravity

Spoiler for Example:
Say you choose the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. It was a volcanic eruption, so you must use Fire and Earth, in the Eastern Hemisphere, so you must use Aether, and over 100 years ago, so you must use Time. Therefore, your deck must be a :fire :earth :aether :time quartet.

Say you choose the current Ebola oubreak in West Africa. It's an epidemic, so you must use Life and Death, in the Western Hemisphere (primarily), so you must use Entropy, but since it's ongoing, you do not use Time. So, your deck must be a :life :death :entropy trio.

What you definitely need to know:
  • One disaster per deck, one deck per person.
  • Standard deckbuilding rules apply to determining Trio/Quartet. Upped and unupped cards allowed.
  • You may not use any other element other than what is determined by disaster, place, and time, and no 'Other' cards.
  • Mark of the deck is irrelavant to deckbuilding, but you should fit it into the story of the deck.
  • Historical accuracy is a good idea.
  • You should include a description so we know what we're looking at.
  • Creativity is the number one priority, but this shouldn't be an unwinning deck, let it beat AI1.
  • Post your deck in this thread.

You have no time left! Good luck everyone!

Hindenburg Disaster

Simple little deck based off of the Hindenburg disaster, it can perform as necessary though it's not very good for obvious reasons, I'm playing up the angle of "the man made failure".
Man made  :gravity :life disaster in the West  :entropy
Quanta sources because the deck is playable
Four copies of pandemonium to represent both the four major theories for the cause of ignition, and due to the chaos and damage the event caused.
Two Graviton Mercenaries and One Green Nymph to represent the 23 crewmembers and 13 civilians who died.
Six (useless) Fire Eaters to represent how the consumption of fire led to downfall (here being played as the need for fire quanta being the downfall of the deck)
Three SoFo for the destruction of the Hindenburg
One Massive dragon, the Hindenburg itself (Upped because Massive is a better word)
One scorpion to represent the possible saboteur, who may have been Joseph Späh or Eric Spehl. (Upped because I didn't want the word "forest" involved)
Cards are mostly unupped to show the failure of insufficient technology that propelled us to do better in the future.
Bonus connection: Lightning could have been what caused it's failure (kills most cards in deck) but likely did not (Dragon can live through lightning) ^_^

Medium range deck based off of the Tsunami in Japan.
Earthquake  :earth in the ocean  :water, and disaster in the east  :aether.
Deck is playable, though not sure how well.
Hematite Golems to represent what people might've died.
Titanium shield to represent the "wall" people took cover on for protection from the flood.
Earthquake to show that buildings were destroyed.
Trident to represent Tsunami.
Mind flayer to represent other dead civilians of japan.
Flooding to represent water everywhere.
Silence splash, for aether mark.

Speaks for itself really, the 2nd and probably least terrifying of the biblical plagues of Egypt.

Lots of Frogs, Mitosis for more frogs, Death from plague carried by special plague frogs, Frog bones making up bone walls. Discord to signify the slight disagreement the Pharaoh's had with God. More frogs...

The deck itself mixes CC, PC and some medium hitters (it can take AI3 and with a lot of trouble AI4). The theme is not so hard to figure out, a huge storm (Lightning Storm) causing a flood (inundation complete with puffer fishes) and chaos (pandemonium and butterfly effect). Damselflies are less thematic but are the targets for your Butterfly Effects (imagine they are butterflies  :P ).

Deck based on Asian Flu that happened in 1956-1958, but basically it can be any epidemic.

Starts off with a single virus, that turns into plague - hard to stop and spreading over time and space. Virus can multiply itself via Mitosis and Fractal. Fractal symbolizes its massive spreading. Used Aether Pends for slower quanta generation, as it takes some time for virus to spread like that (massively). Boneyards symbolize death toll (for this particular epidemic estimated for around 2 millions).

Vajont

A dam, in the valley of the Vajont. It would've supplied electricity to the surrounding area.
A 200 metres tall dam, right under the Toc Mountain.
Toc Mountain, what a name. In one of the local languages Toc means piece. And in the other one means Rotten.
Who could've ever guessed landslides were frequent?

9th of October, 1963.
22:39.
A 260 million cube metres mass of rocks slides down from Toc Mountain to the dam's basin.
The dam stood, as the builders had claimed. But the landslide generated a huge wave, that swept the Vajont valley. The small town of Longarone was wiped away, along with Erto and Casso, two towns in a different valley that were hit by a different wave.

The mountain's spirit, like in folklore tales, rising to punish those who rose a dam where no dam should have been built.
Golems, Earth, Blood, Bone
Carved out of Stone.
Wardens of the mountain.

The storm that was, the water accumulating over the safety limit in the dam basin
Rain, Bolting Rain, Lightnings.
The Patience of the water rising.

The earth moving, shifting. The destruction of the landscape.
The flooding, the huge wave that swept them all away.

Silence and the Wisdom to not make this mistake again in the future, all that was left after.

The deck works, kinda. It doesn't yield the best results, and the flooding looks very out of place and with no synergy the rest of the deck, but it was thematically too important to not be included. I also find both the deck (without flooding) and the name to be moderately decent for a False God, so I built this thinking of an AI/Spirit using this. Also, since it was the spirit of the mountain, I used an :earth mark.

It could also have been considered a landslide by some, but the true disaster was the huge wave, so I just went with Flooding/Tsunami. It could also have been described as man-caused really, because that's what it was.

The Vajont Dam was at the time the tallest dam in the world, and even now is the 7th tallest dam, even if in disuse. I don't really know how known is this outside of the local area.

The theme is Epidemic (:life :death) as one of the biggest modern age zombie outbreaks. There are no specific details where the plague started, but the main storyline happens in the United States, then revolves all around the world (:entropy).
*insert brief history here if valid*

The card choices resemble the following:
  • Mummies represent the infected. Their numbers are more than anything else in the deck, representing the way they outnumber the living people;
  • Pandemonium represents to zombie pandemic as it is called usually;
  • Entropy represent the chaos of the new world, Death represents that the infected are not alive and they are spreading death whereever they roam;
  • The unupgraded nature of :life cards represents that being alive is harder than dying in this specific enviroment;
  • Adrenaline and Mitosis represent the speed of the zombies and that the number of infected is growing. Arsenic also represents the growing infection as it afflicts more and more poison;
  • Bone Walls represent that particular scene where the zombies (the dead) towered up to reach their preys.

The Battle of the Somme

Uncounted, they continued, proud,
They did the duty asked of them.
The countless, pointless, nameless crowd
Marched on, the knowingly condemned.

Loud guns, and loud their beating hearts -
The morbid, brave cacophony,
They stood as men, and played their parts,
Faced silence, for eternity.

Those guns, those men, those painful ends,
The bloody, senseless, great disaster.
They may as well have launched themselves
as wasteful, but much faster.

The little lesson, salvaged thought,
(If anything can be learned)
Humanity is all for naught,
If life itself is spurned.
