The Battle of the SommeUncounted, they continued, proud,
They did the duty asked of them.
The
countless, pointless, nameless crowd
Marched on, the knowingly condemned.
Loud guns, and loud their beating hearts -
The morbid, brave cacophony,
They stood as men, and played their parts,
Faced
silence, for eternity.
Those guns, those men, those painful ends,
The bloody, senseless, great disaster.
They may as well have
launched themselvesas wasteful, but much faster.
The little lesson,
salvaged thought,
(If anything can be learned)
Humanity is all for naught,
If life itself is spurned.
