Title: Card updates;
Post by: Ryan666 on February 20, 2011, 12:46:04 am
So as seen from the current life master, he has been making his cards have more detail and information about them.
This would help new players understand cards and learn how to use them.

This is what the normal cards look like.

As seen here, this is obviously more detailed and helpful.

Now, vote on what you think should happen.

I've seen what wizel's been doing with the Life section and I think it's a great idea.  I've heard a few masters discuss about how outside of war there wasn't much to make them appear as the master of their element.  Plus it really is a great way of attracting new player's interests in the cards of the game.  Voted More Info.

Hmm good to know.

A few people have been against but I think it is more an issue of change that it is an issue of the new content. Overall it seems like a majority like a little more detail.

Simplicity is nice, and the pictures are still there right at the top. But for those who want details they are now below the pictures. I think that is fair.

I'm personally amazed at the overhaul done by wizelsnarf. Kudos.

I certainly hope QuantumT follows suit, but I'll make sure to do so when and if I get the chance.

sorry to double post :(.

I have a question:

Should I create a key to explain the terms I am using?

Currently I am assigning cards one of three ROLES - a term that is not really defined.

1. Staple - A card that is a staple of Life and Life decks. It is the "meat" of the deck and without it the deck could not function. It is also one of the go to cards in Life that is used in many or most decks. Frogs, pillars, heals and adrenaline, among others, will fall here.

2. Support - A card that is helpful but not necessary. Druidic staff is an example as most decks just have one or two for support (adren staves excluded)

3. Stategy Specific - Requires a particular strategy. This card only works in conjunction with specific card, mark or strategy, for example forest spirit. Rustler is the only other strategy specific card in Life. In Time, for example, dune scorpions are strategy specific as they require other elements and generally are the primary focus of the deck.

The other term I am using is "Power Level" - simply because it was on Kael Hate's premade form.

It is based on the Usage Statistics under the assumption that cards that are used more are more powerful.

I am listing out what number in the list the unupgraded and upgraded cards are, and then characterizing them as "High", "Medium High", "Medium Low" and "Low" power (maybe with the word very for extra empashasis). This is not super accurate, but more meant to characterize how powerful the card currently is based on usage.

Should I create a key to explain what "Roles" and "Power Level" mean or is it obvious enough as it stands?

Thanks!

As for the "Roles" I am quite happy with the way you have interpreted it wizelsnarf. Power Level bothers me a bit, however I think that it's probably going to give you a good idea of a value that could be worked out through rigorous testing and comparison.

All in all, I have to say I'm pleased at the way you're taking the initiative and changing the forums for the better.

Wizelsnarf's way is a million times better. Love.
2 things though, I would ignore power level, it discourages/encourages and I dislike that, card sections should be as unbiased as possible IMO, and (I haven't looked through them all so if you've done this, then I feel pretty stupid) link any Wiki featured articles (eg Adrenaline) since they have much more information for the truly dedicated readers of the Card sections.

This is good stuff.

hmm okay.

I have been looking at the stats merely to present the case of the cards balance. Based on statistics Quantum pillars/towers are way overused. I don't think that is a good thing. I was suprised to see Heal up above frogs and cockatrice though and I think it is worth noting.

Maybe I should get rid of the phrase power level and just report the raw usage statistics rank? (eg this card is #21, leaving out my comment of high power low power etc...)

Where should I put a link to the wiki article on cards? I could make the pictures a link but people might miss it so maybe I will make it explicitly says:

"Wiki Article Link: ..............."

(Quote cut down because for some reason it's easier on my text box)

The numbers are the numbers. They have nothing to do with power levels, and they are pure facts. Number #21, 2nd highest life card, #rd highest spell card, whatever numbers you want or don't want to assign to it. (More is not necessarily better- just some raw indication of usage).
For the second point, maybe just "The Elements community voted this card most popular blah blah, see the featured article here" or something along those lines. It would only be for 2 or 3 cards I think, the featured articles don't move too fast. Some indication that the article is special, perhaps a little rant about how popularity vote is terrible and that there are way cooler and less used life cards. But yeah, this is sounding pretty demanding, and I don't want to detract from what you've done, great work taking initiative and making the section shiny and new again.
(And any other awesome masters who have followed suit too)

The idea was originally from Kael.

All props go to Kael.
