NOTES:
Never seen it before, but I wouldn't be surprised if the name and/or mechanic have been used. Still thought I'd give it a shot.

The delay doesn't stack with itself, but it does with other cards. To clarify, playing the upped twice resets the delay to 2, but a creature hit with it and Basilisk Blood will be delayed 8.

EDIT: Be sure to let me know if the alternative is preferred in the poll/

You can remove that cost and have it drain quanta from you as an effect to compensate for the *cost*

On the mechanic of mass delay: http://elementscommunity.org/forum/level-3-armory/time-bubble-time-field/
Using a variable cost mechanic to balance the scaling effect is original, I believe.

You can remove that cost and have it drain quanta from you as an effect to compensate for the *cost*

But then it wouldn't have a variable cost. A variable cost ensures that you have already generated the amount of quanta before the card can be cast, while a normal cost with a drain only ensures that you are left with the amount of quanta after the card is cast. The limitations are different.

I knew it. Well I think I can continue safely with the different element, theme, and cost mechanic. But it's very interesting that Xenocidius and I came to the same conclusion on costs for such a spell. Good to know I'm on target.

Yeah, I thought about this one, the variable has to stay unless I can figure out something clever to fit into the card text, otherwise it doesn't make full sense. In the end it's all about conveying the mechanic in the simplest presentation.

I'm not sure what thread I heard it discussed in, but I seem to remember that variable costs are not likely to ever get implemented.

I do like the concept of the card though.
