Yeah, I know such cards were done before. However, the major difference is that while I haven't changed Devour's cost to other element, the spell itself should not be in  :gravity in my opinion. Just imagine an Armagio with Devour *shudders*

Why  :life? Mainly because it's not :gravity. iDaire suggested  :life and there is certain logic to it: Every living thing gets hungry sooner or later (especially since except for flying weapons all EtG creatures are animals). Of course I am open to suggestions.

Another suggestion (by Dm) was to tie the cost of the spell to the target creature's HP, thus making it harder to cast on large creatures. For now I'd like to make it simple with cost, but this is a nice option for balancing.

i love the concept, but upped, perhaps you could give it a little more than a cost of three? thing about it, Emerald dragon, plus this card could be very dangerous to your opponent

I feel like the upped card should be bumped up 1 :life quanta, due to the +1|+1 in it. Otherwise, I like the concept. Maybe a card named Bloodlust or Ravenous Flock in the future, that applies Ravenous to all creatures, consuming all Life quanta? I don't know.. :P

Interesting idea, though in effect it would probably be the same as tiered cost - need another turn to get enough quanta (though :life can have lots of quanta available)


For tiered cost I was thinking of something like this
  • 0-2: 1 :life
  • 3-5: 3 :life
  • 6-8: 5 :life
  • 9+: 7 :life

You should balance that with the card that already has Devour: Otyugh. You should probably raise the bottom tier to 0-3 or 0-4 for 1 :life due to how normal Otyugh sucks anyways and if that card is better at devouring than creatures affected by this, that's not very good since then there'd be no real reason to use this card for the lower tiers.

Interesting notion. My problem with that is that it would favor  :gravity based decks with  :life splashed in, which I would rather not see.
I though of more of the opposite, just  :gravity splashed into a deck which mainly runs  :life

I'm thinking of denying Gravity units that kind of delicacy in the first place (that is, do not let Gravity units be targeted with this) ... but outside of Gravity, there's still the Voodoo Doll (0/16), Golden Dragon (10/10), and Stone Dragon (8/10) to think about. And we're not into upped territory yet.

Also, if you worry that most decks that use this would be Grav-based decks that splashes Life instead of Life-based decks that splashes Grav, just raise the casting cost.

You can make the ability cost simply use Life, or another element. It doesn't need to be gravity, it already has enough synergy with Gravity's generally high HP so forcing it with a gravity cost isn't needed anymore.
