water cards in elements dun really seem to be sliding towards
big damage, Acheron would feel weird if put into game with
the other water cards.

Actually, damage ramp is something of a core theme for water.

Steam Machine is part of an ongoing theme of fire quanta growing attack both in and off element:

The other two cards do indeed show growth in water though.

Actually, damage ramp is something of a core theme for water.

Steam Machine and Forest Spirit are not really pure water card so
they can exhibits something different from the normal water cards.

Shard of Patience is indeed a damage ramp,
but it increases damage + toughness while your creatures are not attacking.

Acheron seems like a fire card, keeps rushing to attacking and
increasing damage over time, not suggesting it to be a fire card,
just dun feel too exactly matched with the usual water cards.

Archeron has two different caps placed on it. One is a turn counter that seems symbolic of growth or the tide and the other based on your empty creature slots, the slots you're not attacking with.
In that sense, maybe it's more in line with past mechanics than you think.

Well, if you're not playing mono :water, Flooding will go in sync with this card.

Seems like this card has gathered quite a bit of interest, so I've added some nice art; hope you guys like it. :)
