Before Requesting Card Art

Here's a few basic guidelines that you'll want to go by:

• Where is your card idea? Very simply put; if it's not in the forge or higher, the chances of it ever being used are very, very slim. (In fact, I personally don't bother with cards that aren't in the Armory.)
  
• What art do you want? So, you want an image of the grim reaper wearing chain mail armour and holding a string of dead cockatrice behind him in a throne room? Ain't gonna happen. The more specific you get, the less appealing it is. Leave some freedom for the artist. In the mentioned example, "some sort of murderous grim reaper" would be a nice way to describe it. Remember, if you pay an artist, you can ask anything you want if you're willing to deal with the pricetag. This is charity.
  
• Know the possibilities. Pretty obvious example: Don't ask for humans. They're not in the game, they won't be.
  
• Look for free artwork first. If you've already taken the liberty of taking copyrighted artwork for your idea, then hell, why would you treat another artist with any more respect?
  
• Say 'please'. Seriously. Do it. The next chat PM saying "hey you should draw art for my idea" gets a ban. You're asking for a favour, so be nice.

That about concludes it. Remember that in the end, people can have busy schedules and no time to make your card art. Sucks for you, but it happens. Don't push it, accept it, say "thanks anyway" and move on.


Requesting Card Art

Due to the overwhelming amount of requests for card art (regardless of whether the card has been voted up to the Armory or still in the Smithy stages), this thread will consolidate those topics into one to prevent clutter as well as assist aspiring artists to find and choose which art they want to design illustrations for.

Here's how it'll work - suppose you have a card idea that has a concept and mechanic to your liking. You have the name, element, and everything else down, but to you, the current art (or lack of art) is unsatisfying. After searching the web for an image that you can use (with permission in many cases) and given credit to the source of the image, if you are still unsatisfied with your card art, you can request art for the card idea.


Post the card image and link to that topic in here, using the following code:

Place the card idea topic link AFTER the '=' symbol in the code, and place the card image (the card 'frame', technically) between the 'img' section.

If you want to make additional requests, modify your post and add an additional card art request. You do not need to place the upgraded and non-upped versions of the card for an art request. If you try to make additional posts in this topic to allow people to see 'more' of your card ideas for designing art for them, they will be automatically deleted.

You should also take a look at this thread here, in case you want to personally message someone for an art concept (ALTHOUGH IT IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED THAT YOU POST YOUR PUBLIC REQUEST HERE FIRST).

is there a limit to how long this can go? with all the card art requests i have a feeling this would hit its max really quick

lol yea i got that and im all for it. i mean a max as in X posts before a new thread must be made. ive seen some threads were taken off because they got too long. i just think with card art requests that may happen sooner than a normal thread would.

What do you mean by 'max'?

As long as people have an art request, they simply post the card link/image and wait. I'll modify posts as necessary I guess in order to make sure that people aren't spamming the thread with card links in separate posts or whatnot.

Mostly, this is to ensure that if someone feels a little artsy, they can jump into this thread, whip out some generic MSpaint (or better) program, and do a charitable design for someone's idea.

On the contrary: unless -thousands- of people request for artwork (which is unlikely), I can still merge posts together and edit them to conserve space in this thread. Also, if the Art classes by vrt go well, we'll get people relying -less- on others' images and making their own art for their own ideas.

Also, this is a sticky - stickies are allowed to go 'crazy' with posts. Have you seen them in the other forms (like the 'READ THIS BEFORE POSTING YOUR CARD IDEA' thread)?

A mod has the ability to delete posts and archive posts as required.
Should it feel it is needed we can delete those requests once resolved.
If the post is a non-request detail, such as this discussion, it can be archived once out of date.

A water card: In my imagination it's a sea with a white tear through the middle, with bubbles and water fluff ect.
But since I'm not making it, you can be creative, with storms in the background or stranded creatures ect.

Both of the ones on here so far have honestly had me stumped for a while . . . with riptide I can't get water to look right, and I can't think of any way to make fire look sneaky . . . anyone have any suggestions for me?

(either help with drawing water, or an idea as to what to draw for fire thief)
