Time until voting for Round 6 ends:
Time's up!

How to vote
All you have to do to vote in Brawl #7 is to follow these 3 steps!
Note that unlike the previous Brawl, Brawl participants are allowed to vote.

1. Read
Read through all the submissions below to see what you actually want to vote for. Be sure to not accidentally miss one!

2. Decide
After reading, decide how you want to vote. Remember, you have 10 voting points ('voints') to split up between teams for each task. If you really like two of them but not the others, you could vote 5-5-0-0. Or if you have a clear ranking in mind, you could vote 4-3-2-1. Or split it up in any other way you want. The only limits is that you cannot give more than 5 voints to any one team, and you have to spend all 10 voints on each task you vote on. Any votes that do not fulfill these conditions will not be counted.

3. Vote
Go vote here! (Voting tool made by UTAlan)

4. Write (optional unless Voting Panel)
Write a post in this topic where you tell the rest of the community why you liked who you liked (Or why you didn't like who you didn't like). You have to give at least some reasoning for your vote on whatever team you gave the most voints, but feel free to give some feedback to all teams if you want! Be sure to not reveal your exact votes to anyone, to help avoid strategic voting. You are supposed to tell who you liked and why, but not how you spent your voints. This will however be revealed at the end of the voting, together with the totals to see who actually won!
This step is required if you are part of the Voting Panel!

If you have any questions about the voting procedure, don't hesitate to ask!

Feel free to scroll down to see the submissions for this round...

There is only one word that describes the Ancestors.

Anger.

Anger at the loss of their home. Anger at the humans, who destroyed it. And most of all, anger at themselves, for not having the foresight to leave warnings about their Artifacts, to not hide them more deftly, to not leave them guarded even after millennia.

They failed to prevent the loss of their realm, and they hate us for it.

NOTES:
Having searched planets and homeworlds of races left in the past, our understanding of technology has greatly improved. One such technology is that of mind control. The race we found it from did not seem to be capable of fighting well, and their efforts had only hindered the Ancestors, proving only a speedbump against their efforts. A race with better technological prowess, like us, will be able to use it to a much greater extent.

Unfortunately, this technology is only an adaptation of what the original users could do with it. While effective, its chance of success can often be lacking, and its duration only temporary. This is on account of how the Ancestors have such strong mental fortitude, that they will oftentimes resist the temptation of the Mind Control. In such cases, the efforts will only anger them, increasing their strength. In either case, their bolstered strength or their befuddled mind, the effects are but temporary, and will wear off soon after.

All copies of Phase Salvager should be replaced with Memetic Manipulator.

Our firepower cannot beat theirs. They are too strong, too powerful, and they will only become moreso.

What we lack in immediate firepower can be made up for with technology and sheer will. Our Wardens will protect us as best they can, while we scramble their ancestral minds with powers such as our Manipulator and Lobotomizer.

But all these efforts are for nought if we cannot kill them! With standard creatures unable to dent their armour, our best option is to replicate what they have. Their powerhouses are ours too, and our defences should be able to hold them off for long enough while we slowly but surely are able to put an end this destructive war.

Russianspy teleported into the enemy ship's storage area. The room was empty. He approached the door, ready to begin his preliminary scouting of the enemy's resources.

Thousands of voices in thousand of languages flooded into Russianspy's mind... it was soul numbing agony. Eventually, they sounded as one in a voice he understood...

You shouldn't have disturbed us. You can not defeat us. We know you. When you go to strike, we have already struck you six times over. Your thoughts are our weapons.
You never should have stolen our artifacts. And never shall again. We will protect our artifacts with endless fever.
We will rule until the sands of time run dry. We will rewind the clocks until we rule the universe once more.
Your riches we shall melt and form into our barricades. The very sky shall be our slave.

Russianspy gasped into his radio. ""Take me back. Take me back...""

Interstellar Orbit Admiral's Log Report: JonathanCrazyJ Not yet submitted to Great Council.
Crew State: Comprimised
Content:
God knows how, but I have convinced our one time enemies to work with us on this. What's more, they have agreed that due to the mind reading technology of the Ancestors, I will be the only one privy to the whole plan.

It will begin by each other fleet setting up the area for us, by building only constructs, quanta generators, outposts and fortifications, but not knowing half of what they are there to supply, the enemy will only be able to replicate and respond with what they see before them. When we get in, fully supplied with energy, we will be able to fuel all of our assault forces, who will be completely unusable to the common enemy, the Ancestors. It will be a long fight, they may have other defense, but by removing teh threat of our own assault being replicated, we should prevail.

Anything we can... achieve after that... is a Bonus.

'Lord Joey! Lord Joey!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!''

This sounded very alarming. I turned to see a civilian we saved from the pirates.

''We have finished translating the book you asked us to translate. You must turn around at once! And Never come back! Never think of coming back! Never think of thinking of coming back!''

''What you found must be very disturbing indeed. But before we turn around, I want some explanations. Was I right? Are the Ancestors MY ancestors? Have I found my people?''

''I hate to announce it like that, but you couldn't be more wrong. Your race... it ... it was completely decimated.''

''Oh...''

''The pictures you saw in the book were indeed your real parents. They went to negotiate with the Ancestors and were killed on the spot. The Ancestors then proceeded to raid your planet, kill everybody on it, and then destroy every last detail remaining of it. Apparently, they had no idea that your parents had hidden you on the Green Night.  According to this book, the Ancestors are the strongest, scariest species in the whole universe. They have completely decimated every race that have tried approaching them at all. This is why they are but legend. If you know about them, you're already dead. You just don't know it yet.''

'' So you are telling me these Ancestors killed my parents?''

''Yes''

''And my whole race?''

''Yes''

''And my planet?''

''Yes''

''And countless others?''

''Yes''

I turn to my team, and tell them.

'' Full speed ahead, I'm not turning back, even if it means I have to leave my life here.''

...

'' I was afraid you'd say that...'' Says the civilian again. '' This is the best representation of the Ancestor we could find in the book. Keep in mind that this deck size is doubled, that their draws are doubled, and that the mark is tripled. This is just how strong they are.''

Dr. Andersen's note to the Parliament: Argue all you like about us aborting the mission, but there aren't many things that'd make you feel as on edge as being attacked by a fleet of giant unstoppable ships full of angry alien lifeforms outbalancing the powers of a tiny exploration vessel, which, despite its posh name, wasn't ready at all. The Preservation Ark was still broken from the encounter with one of the third parties, and our Atmosphere Regulators didn't hurt the Ancestors in the slightest. Dr. Andersen's note to the Parliament: This sounded a bit counter-intuitive at first: mixing stuff that makes plants grow and things that eat them away didn't seems like a smart idea. Muffin proved us wrong by making selected pests enlarged to the size of a car. So, we three took the pesticide suits, we loaded the remaining Devolution Staff and Feral Shields for the crew and the ship, Muffin and Trouble took the Growth Accelerators and just like that we went to attack.

Final note by Dr. Andersen: While it worked wonders in terms of fending off angry Ancestors as well as some of the third party people, we did miscalculate that after the fight we had an entire swarm of pesticides, enlarged to be big enough to devour both us and the Ancestors. Thankfully, the Black Hole neutralized most of them, but

Spoiler for Iron Manta:
Supreme Astrolord Klonex's paled skin glittered in the light of the thunderbolt crackling into life around her Mindstaff.

She lowered the staff to the human's throat beneath her feet and spoke into his mind.

''We do not hate your kind, soft one. The oxygen in your planet can fuel our research into flammable gasses. Your little lungs breath too much.''

The human's mind was frantic, but as its eyes fixed on Klonex's, its final thought was Why can't I just live?

*Crackle*

_________________________________________________________________________________________________

Klonex sighed. She rolled her Mindstaff between her powerful, leathery fingers.

The technique to craft the shock absorbing Obsidian shaft was learned through the minds of Dawlish Dwarf Lords. Now extinct. They used too much Obsidian.

The smelted phosphorous alloy of the staff dome, allowing her thoughts to be projected ever further, was developed by a combination of Erilon 7 mining techniques and Gumban alchemy. The people of Erilon 7 were incredibly helpful, but their equipment would have taken far too long to reproduce. Claiming it instead was far more economical. Gumbans were just annoying. Little whiny things.

These civilizations were necessary casualties. Klonex's mother, Supreme Astrolord Poknella taught Klonex how to be a true leader of the Ancestors. We serve the universe. We can technologically advance all the peoples in all the galaxies. We can comprehend anything. We can understand any technological or scientific breakthrough discovered and created by the lesser races. We can implement them better than the race that envisioned them, because we can see how they connect to the knowledge of all the other races. It makes no sense, no sense at all, to let them waste their resources on hapless ventures, when we can use those resources to much greater effect.

All this, Klonex knew. Yet she was unsatisfied today.

Why can't I just live?

The humans hadn't offered much. Wheels and sundials mostly. Klonex didn't admire them like other races. In her opinion, they weren't yet technologically ripe, give them a few millennia longer and they might surprise us, but as it is there wasn't much to be gained. Her resourcing general however, claimed their wet little planet was fit to bursting with natural elemental resources. ''Their minds aren't ripe.'' He had mused, ''But their planet is.''

Yes, their minds weren't ripe, and yet... when she delved into one of their scared little heads, Klonex found them oddly fascinating. From what she gleaned of their nature, it seemed as though they didn't care that their minds were not being used to full effect. She watched one kicking a rock against a bigger rock for four hours, researching what he had hoped to achieve. Was it fire? Was it stonework? Finally she could take it no longer and delved into the human's mind.

''What are you hoping to achieve?''

The human looked at her... I... I like to hit that little white mark... I... I am just trying to hit it 4 times in a row, because the most I have managed is 3

*Crackle*

At the time she had killed the human simply because she thought him broken. Now... she wasn't so sure. They seemed to enjoy... stupidity.

Why can't I just live?

Suddenly, Klonex put her head through her Mindstaff and called out to the Ancestor fleet. ''We are withdrawing. Let the humans have their strange fun.'' She paused and then added, ''Show them how to make fire first. Help them get started.''

_________________________________________________________________________________________________

Ancestors. I have gathered our fleet here for a reason. Next to this dying star even we are dwarfed. I have a proposal... no, I have a command.

We have become stupid. We are the most intelligent creatures in the cosmos, yet we are plagiarising, kleptomanical idiots. We hear the thoughts of millions, yet are thoughtless.

Look around you. Name one thing, one thing, which we invented ourselves. Even the language we communicate in is not our own, we replaced our own linguistic heritage when we found a civilization with a more expressive language than our own.

I looked at humans today. Dumb, pink, fleshy humans. I found something I could not comprehend. Contentment. I am not content with my Mindstaff, my energy, my language being the ideas of another. I want to force myself to think my own thoughts.

That star dies in 20 minutes. I have placed several artifacts around the cosmos, mapping and evaluating every detail of this universe. When that star dies, it will create a black hole. We learned on Gordinak's 3rd moon that through a black hole is an alternate dimension formed by whatever the first light it absorbs is.

When that star dies, I will project an image of this entire universe directly into the black hole. We shall have our own universe, and whatever we create, whatever we discover... will be our own.

Spoiler for Paratus:
There were a lot of moments it liked to replay. Almost constantly, something would snap: a person might make a clumsy move, or forget something on their stove, or leave something too closely to an edge of a counter. Those little things wouldn't seem important, until it is too late and the calamity has already begun by a misplaced shoe or an uncharged battery. It, the Time, liked replaying these moments over and over in its endless memory.

One of its favorite catastrophes was the Fall of the Ancestors - a great tragedy (at least for parties involved) beginning in but a greedy person. Most of the cases, Time didn't bother to remember the names, as they always seemed so shallow to a being that it was. But Time remembered him, a greedy ancestor, who sold secrets of a fascinating weapon, designed to crush down planets and blow out stars like they were candlelights, to a pack of stray pirates and bandits, barely able to travel through interstellar space, let alone knowing how to handle the mastery of the Ancestors. The greedy ancestor soon perished, but his actions remained unchanged, and as a fleet of cruise ships, filled to the brim with best and brightest people of the planet, was sailing off for a stroll across the galaxy to celebrate the invention of interdimensional travel, the bandits caught Ancestors' home planet off guard, leaving science fleet to return to nothing but floating dust and rubble.

The survivors were furious. Creatures of science and reason were turned into savage, uncontrollable beasts who's only desire was to avenge their fallen families. Time smiled as it remembered the few ones who thought they could stop the rage of their brethren. It carefully and slowly replayed the days of slaughter, of the pacifists, then the bandits, and then anyone who thought it's a good idea to try and calm these creatures down.

Finally, things were calming down. Ancestors, still cross, but now considerably more lucid, decided to leave this universe for good, so that no one could turn their knowledge against themselves...

...It wasn't meant to be, was it?...

Spoiler for Green Night:
Long ago in a not so far away place, there lived an ancient race known as the Ancestors. They were a rather brash and unpredictable race, and were closely neighboured by four other factions. The Korans, the Drentu, the Reyghs, and the Lerogh. With these five factions in such close proximity,it was only a matter of time before war broke out, and thus, the battle for resources was fierce. It was on this very day, thousands of years ago, that the war of the factions ended...

The Korans, sturdy and patient, crumbled at the hands of the Reyghs...
The Lerogh, swift and angry, fell to their knees underneath the Drentu...
The Reyghs, Malicious and sneaky, beheaded one by one at the hands of the Drentu...

And the Drentu and the Ancestors were all that remained. They faced each other down on this horrible day. The Ancestors were an angry race, and would not back down until each and every one of the Drentu were dead. So they raided their home colony, slashing direcly into the heart of the Strong and peaceful people of the Drentu. The battle was fierce, and it seemed no one remained. No one but the Ancestors. But their anger did not fade, and they became hostile to anyone who dared even look their way. The came to a shocking realization, They needed a way out. This universe was becoming too small for the evergrowing race of the poisonous, demented race. So they began collecting their resources, and stealing them from others. Research needed to be done in a more fleshed pursuit, and soon the ancestors found their answer. Star dust. Star dust could be converted into material, it could be made to create a portal, create an extra pocket. They began dissecting the possibility in secret. Stardust...

They worked undercover for years, with no outcome. The very idea of stardust being used was vain and impossible. Or was it? A scientist by an unknown name has given them the answer. Stardust wasn't the answer, no, the answer was beyond their control, but stardust was a key of some sort. With this new knowledge, they made haste of their work, and in no time at all, they were gone. Wiped from the universe with no more than a whisper. of memory. They did not wish to be bothered further by outside sources. At peace with where they stayed...
Now here we are, intruders? No, avengers. The war was never over, and it will never be over so long as these monsters exist.

Spoiler for Battlestar Go Frak Yourself:
Found in ancient scribes from the last remnants of broken planets ravaged by the Ancestors, we have been gathering information on what may have possibly happened to them, and how they left. Their technology bewilders us, and we can make little sense of what information we can gather... but upon seeing them in person, we have connected a few bleaker areas of the mystery.

The first information we found regarded what we can only understand as a ritual. A being able to harness mass amounts of electrical energy (this part we were unable to understand until we saw the Ancestors in flesh), enough so to hold and maintain a cross between worlds.

The second thing they needed were beacons. These were represented by the artifacts that we have found scattered across the universe. These beacons keep the link intact, allowing them to gain knowledge of our universe, ensuring that other aspects of the plan are stable.

The actual ritual, the way they were able to escape to a different universe, is mostly unknown, but something strikes me as strange. In our first contact with them, they said:
""You have have meddled with forces you do not understand! We are the ones you call the Ancestors. Thousands of years ago, we realized that the universe was not big enough for both us and all the other races. We wanted everything.""

But this doesn't make sense. A race will not show mindless rage, especially one with such intelligence as the Ancestors. My theory is that they were searching for something, and stopped when they found it. That is the true reason why they left us. But why did they leave the universe then?

What were they trying to find on the other side?

...What were they running from?

With one of the Artifacts in my hands, so close to the Ancestors, I can tell that its power is at its strongest.

And it can feel me, too. It doesn't understand what I am. It thinks I am an Ancestor - and it tells me its secret.

I fall to the ground, knees hitting the metal floor of the room. Pain courses through me. The Artifact is weaving its way into my head, into my mind, into my memories...

And I remember. I remember what the Gate looks like. It is perfectly clear in my head, as if I myself had just constructed it.

Without a moment's delay, I grab a piece of paper and a pen and I place onto the paper what I can see in my head, what the Artifact has told me - every detail, every artefact, everything I would need to know to build another.

And then the memory fades, and I look at what I have drawn.

Spoiler for Hidden:

It's useless. The Artifact has done nothing for me, after all. I am no Ancestor.

Then I realise something I hadn't even considered. If the Artifact believes I am an Ancestor, then why would it try to tell me what the Gate is? I would already know.

Of course. It wasn't telling me what the Gate is, it was trying to remind me. It wants me to take it back. Just like them - the Ancestors - it wants to go back. It wants to join them. I can feel it; I can feel its hopes, its dreams, its desires.

The Artifacts were never mere machines.

Spoiler for Hidden:
An Epic Conclusion | BASIC TASK
Describe how your battle with the ancestors ends however you like: with images, a story, or maybe a play-by-play of when your deck beats theirs? Or maybe after the initial battle you manage to talk to them? All up to you! This task has no length limit, aside from maximum 65535 characters.

Spoiler for Paratus:
Final note by Dr. Andersen: While it worked wonders in terms of fending off angry Ancestors as well as some of the third party people, we did miscalculate that after the fight we had an entire swarm of pesticides, enlarged to be big enough to devour both us and the Ancestors combined, and ask for a dessert afterwards. Thankfully, the devolution staff neutralized most of them, but couple of smaller ones did manage to bite through our suit. Agent Muffin did devolve the buggers, but we think he was a tad bit too slow, since the hermetic seal was no longer there... and stuff. We started to lose air, rapidly so. Half of our body atrophied due to cold temperature and lack of oxygen, and the rest... we don't think we're gonna last for much longer...

Muffin and Trouble are aware that we're not going with them... Well, we are... sort of, we're just not gonna make it back alive. They tried to connect us to the medical bay, but even at that point, we were too far gone. Even if we weren't, the power wasn't anywhere near enough to maintain us breathing, and most of the supplies were used on fending off literally every piece of space creature that wanted to bite our heads off... Anyway, boys should get a promotion. Or a vacation... Whatever the higher-ups decide. Just, you know, give them some consolation for this mess. Do that for us, will you?.

Tell you what... we've worked a lot with Humans before, and sometimes with Therphaty. Since plants don't really feel pain, it was always... fascinating to us that the whole lot of you does. Many plants' dream is to feel pain same way you people do. But now, as our roots are freezing over, our leaves atrophy and wither, and we can safely say that we feel the pain in its most real form... it... hurts...

Dr. Andersen lost their consciousness after recording this message. Doctor Cinerias Andersen were declared deceased approximately three minutes after the recording ended. Recording was sent to the Parliament as an attachment to the distress signal from Agents Muffin and Trouble. It was later determined that Paratus had been subjected to massive damage, most importantly, the energy storage, which was determined to be the indirect cause of Dr. Andersen's death and disallowed two agents to return to the space of the Interstellar Union.

Following the last will of late Dr. Andersen, both agents Muffin and Trouble were offered a promotion. Muffin accepted his new post as a Space Commander in the Interstellar Union, while agent Trouble declined the offer and has quit his duty in Serenity.

The Ancestral-Human War
From the perspective of an Ancestor

Spoiler for Green Night:
The Ancestors, Legend? Truth? Completely made up story?

Story says that a long time ago there was a race called the Ancestors. They were evil as can be and destroyed many a thing in this universe. Nothing and noone could defeat them. Then you ask, why are they gone now? Well, this is the part many do not believe.

Apparently, some crew called ''Green Night'' went to fight with them. But the field advantage was to the Ancestors. They were faster, stronger, smarter. The Green Night had nothing but hope, a strong bond between it's members, the support of the universe and a wish to avenge all the lost souls.

The Green Night cannot tell you about this fight because they never came back from it. However, neither did the Ancestors. Maybe they all died in a very bloody war? Maybe the Green Night was victorious but decided to depart on another adventure rather than come back for congratulations? Maybe the Green Night could not win the fight and instead found a way to close the portal between the dimensions and cut the Ancestors away from us forever? Maybe time goes at a different speed on that dimension than in ours? We may never know.

This fight happened about 80 years ago. Some people will tell you it isn't true, espescially if you talk to people from blistermarch, Serenity or the colonial fleet of the twelve colonies. These people will deny that the Green Night ever even existed. But I know that it has, for I have been on board. I believe everything that is said about them because I met Lord Joey myself.

I wrote this article because I am now dying. I have waited all my life for the Green Night to come back but they never did. Not only did it contain it's crew, but aboard the Green Night was everyone I knew. My aunts, my neighbors, the dog of my cousin Nancy who once killed a duck under the bridge and even my son. The only reason why I escaped this fate is that I was sent on a very important mission to save an artifact, and for the sake of the mission, I could not get back on board.

My name is Indiana Jaune. And I swear on my name that all these stories are true. Who knows, maybe there will be a movie about this, maybe it will even include me. To the Green Night, if you ever read this : Don't you worry about me. I lived a fantastic life. Went on many adventures after the one with you but you're the kind of people that can never leave a memory.

Lord Joey, I want to thank you personally for giving me this opportunity. Thanks to you, I lived a long and happy life. Somewhere, my heart wants to believe that the Green Night is still alive. Maybe someday they will reappear. Maybe whenever the universe needs Saviors again.

Indiana Jaune

Spoiler for Iron Manta:
'THEY'RE IN MY HEAD! THEY'RE IN MY HEAD!''

Russianspy came flashing back into the Iron Manta control room. As he teleported in, he was clutching his face and seemed to be trying to force his hand into his head through his gills. He ran straight into a wall, which seemed to bring some sense back to him.

''They... I can STILL HEAR... them, but THEY ARE QUIETER... now...'' Russian was panting and periodically shouting. ''Everything I tried they were prepared for. I tried opening fire but after just a few shots, every weapon I fired seemed to assimilate into their weird staves, which shot back the same attacks but two or three times as much firepower. Then I heard them. In my head, thousands of voices in thousands of languages.. they... GET OUT GET OUT GET OUT''

He started jamming his hand into his gills again, blood started to snake its way into the water in the control room. Solaris grabbed Russian's arm with one of his tentacles and yanked it away before he did more damage to himself. Solaris nodded to JonathanCrazyJ. The Octo-Mechanic had been silent since his accident, but his presence back in the crew heartened the Orbit Admiral more than he could express.

''Mindreaders'' mumbled Espithel. ''It makes sense, how would they have such advanced wisdom compared to other budding civilizations at the time? By connecting to every thought of every civilization, any scientific breakthrough would be assimilated and they could advance at an incredible rate.''

JonathanCrazyJ was panicking now. He could handle crew-burning explosions, violent mechs and those DAMNED priests, but nothing terrified him like the idea of someone knowing the kind of frequently horrifying thoughts he relished.

He looked around at his beleaguered crew. He looked at Russian's hands, webbed fingers slick with blood still frantically trying to claw into his own skull. He looked at Solaris the mute holding Russian back with his two good tentacles, the other 6 still charred. He looked at Espithel, whose brilliant mind was just as scarred and impossible to fathom as ever. Espithel may not have been injured in this voyage, but he was damaged. JonathanCrazyJ always said that Espi's thoughts were like a pendulum missing a mark. You knew how they started but you never knew how they would end. Oh... wait...

''Open a comms link with the Green Parent Frakkers -''

''- Err sir I'm not sure how much attention you have been paying to briefings, there are actually 3 rival ships, Green Night, Paratus and Battlestar Go Frak Yourself''

''I only concern myself with threats. But fine, just bring them up''

_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

''Captains. We are backed into a corner. Each of us has attempted initial assaults on the Ancestor fleet and have been met with unstoppable resistance. They know our entire attack strategy even before we do, every time we get near them. But what if, when we get near them, WE don't know our entire strategy. What if we don't even attack? We, of the Iron Manta believe that collectively we can take down these thought-snatching star-lickers. But you have to trust us. This will only work if you do not know the whole plan, not in its entirety... As a token of our trust... Captain ji412jo of the Green Night... take our Artifact. When this is all over, we expect it back, but consider it an insurance policy. If we had more we would share them with teh rest of you.''

_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

''GN, Paratus and BGFY are all in position ready to beam aboard the enemy ships sir. Out of interest, how did you come up with this idea?''

''Your mind, Espithel. I never know what you are thinking.''

''Usually it's 'could I fit my toe in that' sir. Fascinating things toes, I have always envied yours. I only have 3, and...''

''Ready to beam!'' shouted Admiral CleanOnion, closely echoes by Captains DoctorC and ji412jo.

The following few minutes were frantic. The first thing the BGFY team did was panic and open fire on the ancestor hoard, and they took heavy casualties as their assault was echoed 4 times over back at them. Then... a strange calm. It became an oddly twitchy but still battleground, the Iron Manta crew following on the body-cameras of their one-time enemies, as they safely watched from a lightyear away.

In each ship, Ancestor battalions stood motionless, as the crews of the other ships made no aggressive move towards them. instead, the crews were all creating scores of energy points and quanta generators. Some Ancestors, looking puzzled replicated them and created energy of their own, but they seemed to be unable to turn this strange pacifism strategy against their foes.

''Quanta is approaching fantastic levels, sir...'' Espithel muttered.

''Not yet''

''Care to make an appearance, I'm not sure how much longer until they just use those staves as a beat stick'' crackled DoctorC on the radio ''I wish you'd just told us what you had planned...''

''Couldn't. Not yet.''

''QUANTA MAXED OUT ON ALL 3 FRONTS, AND OUR ON-BOARD WATER PRESSURE CRITICAL SIR''

''Alright'' JonathanCrazyJ said calmly. ''Now.''

_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

The Iron Manta flashed into proximity, and jettisoned massive steam machines and toxic, vacuum proof jellyfish. Within the Ancestor fleet, the Ancestors were frantically building piles of quanta generators, outpacing the Captains 6 to one. They were concentrating so hard, they were unable to comprehend where these new threats were coming from, as the Steam Machines and Chrysaora started leeching the accrues power, and channeling attacks.

''WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING?'' yelled CleanOnion ''Why get us to make these quanta sources and risk our necks if you're just going to destroy them?''

JonathanCrazyJ glanced at the BGFY monitor and saw several of their generators pop into shattered, smoking shards. ''Look again'' he replied.

From the smoke of those generators formed vicious, bloodthirsty nymphs who set upon the Ancestors, who looked bewildered as they could not understand where these things came from. They had boundless energy to use, but none of it was equipped to replicate these attacks. They had only been able to garner half of the plan, and were paying the price of they lack of original thought.

''Lots of quanta down there now'' mused Russianspy. He had recovered, though looked exhausted.

JonathanCrazyJ disconnected his radio. ''The nymph captains have orders to consume all of the generators before turning on the other crews. The machines are programmed to protect artifacts from the carnage.''

He reconnected the radio. ''What did I say? We're right behind you...''

It asks for cloak to be in play, not to be on your side of the field.

Spoiler for Votes:
Spoiler for Decks:
Basically a tie. The FG decks were all decent. The counter-FG decks were all decent counters. I gave the extra voint to the FG decks I felt fit the ancestors better, and the extra voint to the counter-decks that used their card designer's cards best.
Spoiler for Mechanic:
I liked Iron Manta and Paratus' cards the best. Green Night's Flying Thorns was satisfactory, but not very interesting, and Shiv gets minus voints for the lack of proofreading. BGFY's card was a bit too much RNG for an :aether :earth combo.
Spoiler for Mapper:
Paratus have the most polished design, and are the clear winners. BGFY's gif is a nice touch, but it would work better if the initial image wasn't so bland. Iron Manta has a pretty clear image, but I'm not sure I agree with the costume choice. I liked the background in Green Night, and they get second place for this task.
Spoiler for Log Keeper:
Iron Manta and BGFY's stories were interesting and the most engaging to me, with a solid background and interesting concepts discussed. Paratus had a good idea, but it feels odd that a primordial entity like "Time" would refer to "The Ancestors" by that name. Green Night's story wasn't bad, but implies that the story of the Ancestors was passed down through the ages, which sort of contradicts the earlier rounds.
Spoiler for Bonus:
The image was the most unique and none of the stories were particularly engaging, so BGFY take this one.
Spoiler for Challenge:
Not a fan of the task. Iron Manta put in the song that was being parodied for the sake of comparison, so they win. Definitely not because JcJ has a better singing voice or anything.

haha late boi

Spoiler for Space Trooper:
Iron Manta: Decks seems a little lacking on quanta - running a Diamond Shield and the protection off only the Mark seems a little thin(forgot 3x mark gg me), and there's not a lot of extraelemental generation to power cards drawn from the Mindgates.

Green Night: I'd like to see some justification or explanation for the deck - there's a lot of content preceding, but unrelated to, it, and the only explanation is an in-universe explanation of FG deck rules which for some reason presents the deck not as a representation of something but literally a deck.

Paratus: Deck seems fairly standard for Gravity and isn't really that interesting. Not really sure on the title of the deck, either.

Spoiler for Mechanic:
Iron Manta: Could be wrong, but my instinct is that this is too powerful for its cost - with 6 Fortifications in play and perhaps only one creature on the field, we're talking +3|+3 per round, on average, for negligible cost.

Green Night:Flying Thorns is simplistic and seems balanced. I like it. Only complaint is the removal of full stops on the upped card and the spacing between the :air and the colon. Shiv's interaction with cloak is interesting and makes an immediately overpowered card quite balanced, I think. I'm glad you finally worked out the card table tool.

Paratus: "Amplify" seems like a poor word choice for accelerating the growth of creatures, although using time quanta is a nice touch. The actual effect of the card seems overpowered to me, though the quanta used might offset that.

Spoiler for Captain:
Iron Manta: Minor complaint, but I question the decision to add a width or height element to the image - it was the right size already. Appreciate the effort to make a custom deck image even if the execution isn't quite on par. Could do with a proofread - I saw a "teh" in place of "the", which weirdly enough also happened in another of JCJ's comments in this thread.
Note that per the reference in the final line, at this point I went to read (and review) the Iron Manta bonus task.

Green Night: Use of Damselflies in place of air pillars is a nice touch. I'm not so much a fan of the references to etg terminology in the text of the submission itself.

Paratus: Only 2 accelerators? Bump up the :life generation and ram some more in there. You're gonna have a lot of scarabs, this seems underpowered.

Spoiler for Mapper:
Paratus: Sort of hard to tell what's happening here. Is the blue thing a web? A giant sci-fi control panel, behind which the ancestor's legs (if any) are obscured? I think some more clarity here would be useful, and as usual the pixellated style doesn't really help.

Iron Manta: Was not expecting any conventional humanoid creatures. Kudos for that. As usual, extra kudos for being hand drawn. I have an issue with the clothing - that spike between the breasts would dig in and be quite uncomfortable for long periods of time, I'd imagine. Love the face, for some reason.

Green Night: Darkness here makes it sort of hard to see what's going on, especially as the ancestor itself is so dark. I think I'd like to see some more detail on the ancestor, as it is, it's fairly non-distinguished.

Spoiler for Log Keeper:
Iron Manta: The human's response to "What are you trying to achieve?" secures this as an excellent piece, even if the ending is pure exposition.

Paratus: The actual creation of the pathway is completely glossed over, contained within the word "decided". The description of the events prior to this only build up to the fragmentation of ancestral society, which seems irrelevant to the pathway as it's before "things were calming down".

Green Night: Similar to Paratus' submission the pathway itself is glossed over for the most part, with a lot of the history offering very little context. "Star dust." What is stardust? Has this been defined somewhere and I've missed it? "They worked undercover for years." Why? "They made haste of their work, and in no time at all, they were gone." Is that it, just gone?

Spoiler for Bonus:
Paratus: ...but what? What happened to the bugs in the black hole? Where'd the devolution staff come from? Blue text makes this sort of difficult to read, and the content of it seems sort of fluffy.

Green Night: I like the personal touch of this guy telling us about his life. I don't so much like how what happened is never actually elaborated on.

Iron Manta: "The first thing the BGFY team did was panic" wow rude
" ''WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING?'' yelled CleanOnion " wow rude, I'm not that dumb
Story felt a little cluttered - JCJ is the only character, really, everyone else is just a plot device or a gimmick. A lot of speech in the first section is quite exposition-y, and there are some sections where more emotional transition is required - for instance after Espithel speaks and the next line is a passive reference to JCJ panicking. There are a few plot holes - if the Ancestors read minds, why not read JCJ's mind? If they can predict the next move and duplicate it, why not predict the Steam Machines, conveniently vacuum-proof jellyfish or the Nymph Tears?

Spoiler for Challenge:
Solely for formatting, my vote goes to Iron Manta.

You draw pillars through mindgates. card run off opponents marks is the ancester's weakness

6 cards for +3/3 a turn? deffo not Op :)

They could predict them, but because sthe deck runs quanta off mark, they couldn't play them.
