FAQ
Q: Who hatches first?
A: The opponent will be able to hatch their Frogspawn First.

Q: Why is Frogspawn 4 hp?
A: The Spawning + instant Firestorm would be OP. 4hp means it can be killed by most single target CC, but not by mass CC, so the opponent will have the chance to hatch most of their Spawn.

Q: Giant Frog? the 5 / 3 upgraded one?
A: Yes. This allows the card to be used aggressively (Aflatoxin, rol/fractal) OR stally.

Q: Why is this Fieldwipe?
A: Fieldwipe is a broad term. I consider it a way to flatten the playing field. Sure, if you have 10 creatures and they have 3, it will stay like that, but the creatures themselves will be equalised.

To add to the darkness stall, here's a boardwipe that hits both sides. If a creature has an active effect (Be it triggered like vampire or activated like devourer), it's lobotomised, opening it up to the next sorrow. As most creatures have active effects, the unupped is indeed quite weak.

The upgraded removes this gimmickyness at a cost. It's comparable to firestorm by this point, trading raw damage for attack reduction and lobotomy.

The lack of cloak removal is intentional; it's already shooting itself in a foot a little bit.

This is a shield.

Basically, any attacking creature, be it momentum or spell damage, will generate stacks. At 10 stacks, the shield explodes, dealing damage to enemy attacking creatures. Now this does look wildly OP, however considering the relatively low damage, it is counterable, the same way that neurotoxin is. Basically, do not play creatures until the ones you have die.

"£", "£", "ÆCalm, and calamity. Disorder, and discipline. I am becoming Void, and The Void in turn becomes me. Such is the nature of the highest balance. From one Source came all things. To one End go all things. Only through recognition of this balance may we experience the universe in truth and principle. To experience water, is to be of water. To know fire, is to be fire. To understand Void, one must become Void. The words of the wise echo as I sit in the shade today, pondering the existence of a tower, its sudden presence in our domain a mystery. A mystery the likes of which the Zeteitic Elench has never encountered before! What a fascinating object! Its walls are made of a simple, obsidian-esque material, but this building cries out into the heavens with a passion I have never perceived before. This is the craft of no mere stonemason or enchanter. This building demands the universe to recognize its presence. It screams to me, it beckons and begs, sending a torrent of emotions which I am unable to fully comprehend. The energy it produces in these outbursts is pure; no voidcrafter or lightbringer or shadeweaver could ever match the sheer power I sense within this construction of black rock and cyrstal. I fear that I will never gain a true understanding of this place, for to know the tower, I must become of the tower...+ÃÆ

"Ú£",|"ã", "À|'|, "ÆIt has been three days since its arrival. We of the Void are not prone to excessive activity, but it appears that this object has caught the interest of others. This tower is unique. The Council has decided to restrict access to "The Domain of the Obsidian Tower," as they have named it, and forbidden further contact with the object. Preposterous! The tower's arrival is the first of its kind, and it has not failed to let loose bursts of energy at least once per day, as if by some sort of mechanical design; indeed, like clockwork. This is an unknown at work, and it must be understood. The sanctity of our Void must remain whole, and I will ensure that it remains as such. I sense that the Tower calls to me, and it is a force that will not-- and must-- be stopped. Today, I enter the tower. Today, I become of the tower."Ú£",|"À|'|, "ã"Ãã", "â€

ƒÆÃÀƒâ‚¬¢ƒÆ¢ƒÆÀÀ¢ÆÃÀƒâ‚¬¢ƒÆ¢ƒÆÀÀ¢
The being, this 'elemental' does not understand Void. I have tried to show it the Void, pointing out the error of its ways. It only knows darkness; such a limited manner of thinking! But it is stubborn; how may I better understand this being? To know darkness, one must become darkness...¢¬¬ÃƒÃƒÆÀ¢ÃƒÆâ‚ì""Ãã"

¬¬ÃƒÃƒÆÀ¢ÃƒÆâ‚ì""Ãã Agony. This existence is like an inverted mirror, a twisted landscape of wrongness. There is so much light everywhere. Sounds. Sensation. It burns at my psyche, it freezes my limbs. I am enfeebled, weak. I can feel the energy of life tainting the air and befouling the earth. The heavens are filled not by Void, but by hated light and soothing darkness. A universe etched not by the void, but by its antithesis. The state of this universe is wrong. Above me, I sense a presence similar to that of the tower. It is the elemental. It seems to be what is keeping me alive, in this wretched diminished state. Its arms are raised in cocnentration, and I can feel the foul energies emerge from the tower. And yet... how I long for its darkness! The darkness is all that I can recognize, all I can sense. All that I can understand, my senses inverted. I feed from it now, as it has fed from me. To understand darkness... one must create more darkness!

A Tuesday in the Life of Balaenoptera musculus (A Blue Whale):

Another day ruling the deep sea. Another pod swim with the grandkids. Another 4 tons of krill devoured.
This is a good life.

Today is my 127th birthday, and I’m almost certain that I’m the oldest living Blue Whale, at least in this hemisphere. I’ve been getting birthday cheers from miles and hundreds of miles away. My neighbors are kind. But sometimes I’m nervous that they’re too close.

I sing. At night, when the lightless ocean somehow gets darker, and everything settles down, and I let the water just dance around and through me. When the sea life that I’ve always known grows silent. When no one says anything to anyone, I sing. Sometimes a low note, maybe I can’t even hear myself, maybe it’s that low, but I sing. And sometimes it’s high, a mysterious creaking through the deep waters, a sonic seance, resurrecting sleeping kelp. Under the far reach of the moon, and the darkened blanket of the deep I hum a small tune, at first something minor, something from my childhood, and then I build a little courage to a song I’ve made up a thousand times in my own head. A melody and a harmony and music theory I’ve developed entirely for the ocean to hear. Only the ocean.
Though I fear my neighbors are disturbed by the anti-silent waters, I will sing a little louder, for today is my birthday, and I am the oldest Blue Whale in the deep black sea.

Spoiler for Translation:
RESEARCH FILES DAY 1

I have come to this strange land, it has no rhyme or reason to it. It makes very little sense. Such senseless disorder will not be tolerated, whatsoever.

My master has sent me here for one reason. Master, yes. You may think it foolish to serve a master, even one like him, full of power and strength, but I do not care. His offers, his desires, I do not care. We share a common goal, and I am happy to oblige, as long as we both achieve the same results.

I have come across one that calls itself something foreign to this language. I cannot pronounce it, not with this twisted tongue of mine. The words refuse to speak, and my responding hisses have only frightened the creature beyond any chance of communication. No matter, it was a delightful feast.

I shall find of their culture some other day, but the portal has severely weakened me. I do not know why, but I feel out of energy, and certain artifacts here resonate strongly with me.

RESEARCH FILES DAY 2

This land is broken. It refuses to accept my call to its magic, and only by being near such pillars can I manipulate objects, and when I can, it is of a specific nature. So far I have come across 3 pillars, each of individual power. There is an 4th a much weaker pillar, but I can summon any magic if I stay beside it long enough.

Below are my results;

Brown and stone - these pillars control the earth, predictably. I can increase my defense rather powerfully if I remain with it long enough, though the feeling is unpleasant, as if my skin was turning to rock.

Glassy – these control the skies, for lack of better term. The electric air, each ion that dances individually, they are charged and discharged by this anomaly, one that feels foreign even to this world. Perhaps it is a parasite.

Black and domesticated – They look like the towers of a fort, square rather than round, and emanating a cowardly malice. Being near them sapped my strength, though these resonated strongest with me. Perhaps in this land this tower is my allegiance, so to speak.

Old ridged marble – This one has no particular allegiance, if the others have a specific one. It is able to easily call the weather, and many creatures flocked around it of different types.

Based on this, I would presume that there are at least an even number of specific pillars, each dealing with a different attribute, plus the ridged marble one.

RESEARCH FILES DAY 3

I tested my comparative strength against the denizens of this place. Apparently they fear me and not just for my superior knowledge. Their strikes miss when they attempt to hit me, and their magic is severely limited, especially compared to mine.

I did run into trouble with the Bright Ones, however. They were rather peaceful, and when my claws and teeth attacked them, they burnt. I was able to siphon the life of one, but I have learned my lesson. My affinity to the Dark Towers leave me to burn in the light.

I was assaulted by a Frost Maker and a Storm Caller. The Storm Caller did not respond to the Glass, but instead invisible eddies of wind that only appeared when debris danced through the air. The two seemed confident that I would be bested, but when the Frost Maker had tried to frost my fur, it had missed. The Storm Caller went first, feathers flying as I ripped its throat out, and the Frost Maker followed soon after.

After this, none dared touch me. I wonder what power the Frost Maker and Storm Caller possessed together that could have given them such confidence.

Tomorrow I will rest and compile a dictionary for you, confused reader.

RESEARCH FILES DAY 4

You must be wondering how I write, if I am snouted and four legged. The answer, of course, is magic. You may be a bit disappointed at that answer, expecting something else; let me explain. I shift into a winged form, and the talons write neatly.

Of course, now that brings up the question of how I have intelligence beyond typical creatures, magical or not. It is a trait of my race; we have a long history. Ask the Ravens, they know, for they are our chroniclers.

This entry is half the dictionary, for further reference.

FRAGMENTS - the power sources of this land.

The Glass - An alien parasite, it slowly spreads, and is nearly completely invulnerable to everything. It grows into tall shards, translucent, and draws power from beyond the stars.

The Dark Towers - Strange ornaments left behind by an ancient kingdom, they draw and grant the powers of night, lies, deceit, and trickery. Perhaps that says much about my character.

The Carrion Heaps - Grisly edifices of death, creatures and beings that have died are laid here to rest. The toxic plague that visits this place is enough to push all but the attuned away.

The Eddies - Nearly invisible, they are self-sustaining miniature cyclones of wind that lend their power to the sky. They are what the Storm Callers use.

The Torches - The resulting effect of destruction of a fragment, when the magic grows out of control. They consume everything, and in return grant powerful explosive magic that is easily destabilized, but not without great cost. The Glass does not return this when destroyed.

The Stars - I cannot touch these, so I do not know their true nature, but from afar, they look like fallen stars. They radiate poison to my skin, but to others, they heal.

The Jade - Similar to the Glass, but the natural form. It would not surprise me if the Glass was left to wage war on the Jade, given both their propensities to quickly strike with immense power and replication. Regardless, the Jade is friendlier than the Stars, but both are linked intrinsically.

The Cages - They look like Torches, but are a striking violent violet, trapped in weaving vines of rock. They are simply cages, and the magic that escapes lends itself to eternal destruction, not unlike the burning of the Torches. This magic, however, is far more powerful as it also lends itself to rebirth.

The Sands - For lack of better words, these are large hourglasses. They are not natural, like the others, but do generate a natural power. Perhaps not all the creatures of this realm are clueless about magic.

The Pillars - Stone pillars that have been generated by the weaving of wind and water, they grant protection similar to the Stars effects on others, but are less picky of their protection.

The Geysers - Predictably, their name gives it away. They are simply geysers, brought about by the flow of magic through water. They seldom appear over land, but desiccate the nearby life when they do.

The Weights - One of the strangest fragments, the Weights stand on tiny stilts, but float in air of their own accord. They tug at you, and unfortunate beings who have gotten too close to the Weights themselves are sucked in and simply vanish.

The Undivided - The marble pillars that grant equally and to all, these are pillars that generate when new magic is used, and eventually convert to a different fragment when the magic is used for a certain affinity, so to say.

In an effort to space these out, I will not write the names of the denizens of this realm. Perhaps I shouldn’t say names, but classifications, as they all have different powers.

RESEARCH FILES DAY 5

Classifications;

Storm Callers - These use the Eddies to manipulate their magic, and are most proficient at controlling the sky. All that I have seen are winged. They have a closer secondary affinity to the Jade and to the Torches. I did find their confident power with a Frost Maker; when they unite, they can instantly shatter a creature.

Frost Makers - These use the Geysers, and control the pressure of water. They remove and add it, and are mostly known for their ability to instantly turn an entire battlefield into frost and ice. Their secondary affinity are weaker, though I noticed one with the Torches and with the Carrion Heaps.

Carrion Eaters - Carrion Eaters are vile creatures that survive on the Carrion Heaps, and spread its plague to all they touch. Their secondary affinity are the Dark Towers.

Shades - Like Carrion Eaters, Shades are lesser respected creatures, often feared for their affinity to drain strength and life the way that toxin simply erodes. Their secondary affinity are the Carrion Heaps, and both Carrion Eaters and Shades are refreshed by nightfall.

Bright Ones - These originate from the Stars and are deadly to Shades and Carrion Eaters. Unfortunately I am included in this group, but I luckily can resist to a point. Pacifists by nature, they prefer to let others do their work, which is why it is surprising that their secondary attunement is to the Torches. They also have a secondary affinity to the Jade, which is more expected.

The Arrogant - Travellers, the Arrogant do not much care for the world, and prefer to stay in secluded locations with their Glass. They have no affinity, being not from this land.

The Enduring - From the Jade, these can withstand harsh punishment. Individually, they are weak and easily defeated, but together, they replicate at impossible rates and can easily overtake all. Their secondary affinities are the Geysers and the Stars.

Pharaohs - One of the Frost Makers was able to understand me somehow, through a mental connection. I promised him his life if he told me information, and I was told that the Pharaohs had built the Sands, and used the Sands to reign in eternal kingdoms. Their secondary affinity was to the Dark Towers and to the Glass, having used the Sands to evolve alongside.

Cheshires - Trickster beings, they often duplicate themselves with the illusion of death. They draw power from the Cages, though strangely rely on their luck rather than pure magic itself. They have no secondary affinity, their magic unstable and constantly cycling through all types.

The Armoured - Heavy beings that use the earth as protection, the Weighted are powerful and often strike unexpectedly from under the earth. Their secondary affinities are to the Sands and to the Weights.

The Indomitable – Creatures that effectively rule the land, the Indomitable cannot be moved unless it is their choice to do so. Their secondary affinity is to the Cages and the Torches.

Sparks – Short lived beings, Sparks are the ones that align with the Torches. They have an incredible fighting prowess, but are delicate beyond imagining. Their secondary affinity is to the Stars and to the Pillars.

RESEARCH FILES DAY 6

Today, I was woken up by a Frost Maker, one that could speak with me. I sat patiently as she explained what she had been sent to do. She was sent as a peace envoy, to talk or perhaps to sate me... Unfortunately that was not what I had in mind.

Hunger does not come to this land, so I do not think I will have to eat more. I had only needed to eat in the first place for wounds that I had apparently received when I had gone through the portal. It is for that reason the Frost Maker is alive.

I commanded her to speak to me of the culture, and why they did not know magic well. She did not tell much that I did not already know, and nothing of significance to be recorded.

I sent her away and slept again. Tomorrow I will put the plan in action.

RESEARCH FILES DAY 7

My master had told me to take over this land however I could. With these beings’ lack of ability, it was easy.

They trembled as I made the air explode, as I destroyed parts of the Glass and the Jade, as I undid the flooding, took back my power, and consequently destroyed theirs.

They now lavish me as a God, though I am not one. I have a feeling that is what they call me, a False God. Perhaps they will attempt to send ones to defeat me, but I am invincible. Or perhaps, almost, but Bright Ones are afraid of me, and do not try.

I did not feast, as there was no need or desire. This land defiles what we should be, what we are. I am a predator, but I no longer hunt. My claws and my teeth are unused, and will continue to be unused if I do not bring my master here.

I did mention I wanted something from this land. I wanted escape, but there is none here, none that I want. It is hell of waiting and praying. These beings do not understand me, and the Frost Makers that could do not get near me. That suits me fine, though their confusion of not being able to satisfy my desires makes them do unpleasant panicked actions. Can’t have everything I suppose.

RESEARCH FILES DAY 8

It turned out that the Glass was most conducive to the portal. Its ability to draw from beyond the stars must have also been an ability to open a gate to wherever that was.

I called that magic after forcibly evicting the Arrogant that had chosen to live at that Glass, and I had opened a portal to my master.

I had padded to him rather than he through, and I left that ravaged world. It could do whatever it liked; I suspected other False Gods would rise and fall, but that world was not for me.

He looked at me in confusion, and pointed to the portal, where a shadow of me still existed. The magic of the world had been so deeply affected by me that it even left copies. One left behind powerful blasts through the air, another using the replicative properties of the Glass to sap strength from all that faced it. Perhaps those would be a start of the new False Gods. Not all of them became the Gods, however; some remained simple creatures content to tug at the night and the shadows.

For good measure, I pulled, will pull, these files through, held in my jaw, and the magic kept it there, and either the copy or the original came. I could never really decide. Either way, if you find this in that wretched land, you have already defeated one of my copies. Enjoy learning about where your rulers come from.

NOTES:
Spoiler for CARD: Justify yourself!:
Fluzards are giant, fluffy, boneless lizards that snuggle things. These snuggles can be used for a variety of methods, but they uplift both the snuggled and the snuggler, spending a turn cuddling each other to get stronger.

To the fluzard, fur is everything. They welcome each other with cuddles, can communicate based on how they rub each other's fur, and even tend to communally sleep in one big fluffball.

Their emphasis on their furs is so vast that they skin their dead and turn them into blankets, as an act to remember them by. Just the utter softness and warmness of these blankets can cheer up anything, but being reminded of a lost relative can make them feel a surge of happiness.

Mechanically, this card is playing around with life CC, and is already similar to the warden. The strange upgrade is how I decided to differentiate the two; Whilst the warden has one role that it does very well, the fluzard trades vulnerability and cost for options and the ability to deal large amounts of damage end-game.

The delaying does stack, and it's when the fluzard dies, you get the blanket.

Spoiler for STORY: Watch a fluzard be a fluzard (perv):
I've felt so inspired this week! It's been only three days since I adopted that human child, and it's completely settled into the pack. I was worried that the others would either cast him away or explore him so much, he'd feel violated.

But the pack's managed to tone down their instinctual urges to wrap around and snuggle, and their cultural urges to keep as far away as possible from humans. Maybe the Orthodoxy was right; Both sides could live in harmony, snuggling together. That'd be fun. More people to hug! But... Back to the here and now.

There's weirdness with this kid; just coiling and feeling around his body, you can feel so many grazes and marks on the lower half of his body. They look recently inflicted, and he grunts in slight pain whenever I apply pressure into them. I've applied some natural oil onto these wounds to ease the pain and make him heal faster. Also to make him fall asleep, so he won't fidget as much... I'm going to have to look at these scars once I write this day's entry.

And just who let this kid to die anyway? It's the middle of winter, it's freezing up here, no human lives for miles... How did this child even get up here, yet alone die? I just found him unconcious, underneath a tree, as if he was placed by another force there. What irresponsibility! Only the gods above could've performed such a miracle to keep him safe!

... Does that mean this is a sign, then? The Orthodoxy's always promoting trying to heal the wounds the humans and fluzards have towards each other, but... They made us near-extinct trying to steal our pelts, and we made them near-extinct out of spite and revenge.

How deep does a wound have to cut before it severs all limbs, all understanding of the other? Whilst the Orthodoxy is wrong as of now, I should definitely consult their advice, given their influence.

Am I to heal that wound? ... I'm too weak to do that. I could cook and care for him, but as far as making him an example that we can bond? ... I need to show him the world. I need to keep him as an honoured guest, but not one of our own. He has to be distant, but distinctly still human.

... Oh, what am I saying? Travel the world! Let him grow old enough, then tour! If we can find some fluzard who loves human society and studies it, at a distance, he can teach this child to be its own kind! It learns from us, but can still go down there and evangelise!

For Isol's sake, I'm so excited! Me, just a humble little lizard at the outskirts of a small village, destined to raise one of the most important figures of history! I can't contain myself! The fluzards and humans, they can live in harmony, and I'll help create the stitchwork!!!!!!!

... Sorry, diary. My oil's calming me now... sorry for yawning in your face, too. No, there's still one problem. Bigotry... This child. If he goes into human territory and declares that he likes fluzards, he's going to be attacked, much like how these humans attack their... What are they called again? "Hoemoesects"? Whatever that means. It's something a human does, so clearly it's not right an -... I'm going to have to unlearn those jokes, too.

Likewise, what would other fluzards think of a scoundrel, a low-life like me, snuggling what they percieve as a deadly threat? Would they scorn me for putting him under my sacred uncle's blanket?

... Nevermind; these are questions I simply can't answer now. I'm too weak. I need to find the people to give me the strength to raise this child correctly, to glue both worlds together.

Well, the rest of my life is going to be busy. I'll give this child a good rubbing before I fall asleep with him; he likes it just underneath the shoulders, but oddly enough, hates his knees being cuddled. He's under the blanket of my uncle; Maybe the kid'll inherit his wisdom and clarity. I hope he does!

Here's to a brighter future, then.

Spoiler for LORE: What are fluzards?:
Fluzards are a bizarre species of animal, most closely related to lizards. Distinct features of a fluzard are its diverse but large size, ranging from 16 to 28 feet in length, as well as their odd skeletal system, based on pads of hydrolic fluids, giving them the ability to coil like snakes.

If there is one word to describe a fluzard, it would be multi-faceted. Every limb of a fluzard is

The most important aspect of a fluzard is its sheening white fur, which can be used for warmth, hunting, communication, and reproduction. Fluzard fur permeates many aspect of fluzard life and culture, but is only grown at around 7 years of age, during puberty. Without it, fluzards are a complete jet black.

Fluzards began primitively by living in snowy mountain environments. Their fur kept them both warm and camouflaged as they stalked their prey, mostly deer and wolves. When one of these carnivores set their sights on prey, they would jump out and ambush them, coiling around their bodies to restrain them. Once latched on, a fluzard has two main options for causing the final blow: its claws, or its oil.

Fluzards can strangle their opponent like a constrictor, coiling and choking the life out of them. Fluzard oil is a weaponised form of medicinal sweat, used to clean the fur and numb the pain of wounds. But the use we're concerned about right now is how this oil calms those rubbed onto it, making it harder to fight back. This is the preferred option, as blood can be tricky to get out of fluzard fur.

Alternatively, should the prey have too much energy, fluzards have two claws, one on each arm. These claws quickly extract and have no edge; their power is entirely in the thrust created by a quick unsheathing, and is used to penetrate vital organs or the neck. They then coil around the corpse and drag it back home, trying not to get blood on their fur.

Fluzard culture consists mostly of snuggling, cuddling, snuggling, a stong sense of community, and snuggling. This is simply because, compared to a human, a fluzard is hypersensitive to tactile, vestibular, and kinesthetic stimuli. It only makes sense for a species to base itself on its main senses.

To put it simply, a fluzard's main sense is the ability to touch. The biggest example to provide of this is how they structure of other beings simply by feeling around it, a process known as exploring.

As a result of their touch-based society, many aspects of fluzard culture is quite strange to humans, and vice-versa; Most fluzards don't develop a sense of personal space, and must be trained to respect it if they want to come into friendly contact with humans. And to the untrained human eye, fluzard culture looks completely perverse.

If one snuggles a fluzard for their first time, they'll notice a complete lack of crotch. This is simply because their entire fur, as hugely multifaceted it is, also is their genitalia. Whilst it is uncivilised to bring up such a topic, this difference is the huge chasm between fluzard and human cultures, one that poses some difficult questions that do challenge contemporary philosophies.

Because of their obsessive need to snuggle with each other, there is no role considered more noble than the prostitute. Whilst humans look at such an act with scorn - and rightly so, perhaps - the fluzard equivalent occupies a variety of roles, from its literal sense, to therapist, social worker, eldery carer and even priest.

Prostitution, to the fluzards, is an art, a craft. The Prostitution Orthodoxy is a century-old religion and methodology to try and perfect this craft, with many devout followers; its teachings are the main religion of fluzardkind.

Fluzard politics is a blend of aristocracy and democracy. Instead of parties, fluzards vote on families. The most hotly debated topics as of late are the monetisation of the prostitution orthodoxy, as well as trying to close the scars of war between humans and fluzards.

Now that you've read this lore, read the story again.

Spoiler for Writer:

Spoiler for Lore Background(Read First):
For this setting, a kitsune is a rational fox who may have between one and nine tails, with the scaling of tails indicating growth in experience, power, knowledge, and perhaps age (they can live a rather long time). He or she might appear to be an average vulpine, or perhaps take a humanoid bipedal form, or even disguise as a human - it's always a little hard to tell with shapeshifters and illusionists. A wide range of abilities have been attributed to them, and they may be found aligned across the Elements (for demonstration and card purposes, the writer is a Time Kitsune).

Spoiler for Consideration for Council Audience:
(To the Council, for reference: Lapse is approaching the time to be called in for testing after which he may proceed to the next stage of his training. This and other journal entries which will be available shortly have been transcribed from his effects in the past three months in order to determine when to call him. As you are likely aware, he will move on to his fourth tail and learn shapeshifting next if he has Our approval and blessing. This will thereby release him from his position as a familiar, held since his sudden Knowing and his becoming a feral kitsune from previously being a human three and a half years ago. We will determine next week whether to summon him then or wait. -I.K.M.)

June 21, 2016

Dear Journal,

Today was about as unusual as any other in the past while.

It's been...it seems like a long time. I'd look at my tag, but the sole mirror this house has isn't really reliable - it talks half the time when anyone gets close to it, assuming they're Knowing. What a strange term, Knowing...accurate, I guess, but the existence of magic to start with is unbelievable. Well, I guess would have been unbelievable besides the fact that I live it. Past few years, spent in the chains which two rituals bound, one disbelieved and the other unhopeful...not that Baltor is unkind, but I miss freedom. From what I have learned and what has been promised, I know that the world - and much more besides - can be my tool. The mission to advance the study of magic, or something like that. Yet I can't speak, I can't leave this house unless I'm constantly with Baltor, I can't get things except carrying them in my mouth, can't even scratch an itch without the danger of tearing my fur - and that's only if I can reach the itch to begin with.

I am not free.

...

...shouldn't spend too long being introspective. Last time I did that my mind went fuzzy and when I woke up my fur was covered in glitter. Took a week to get it all out. Broke a leg afterwards, too, but it was worth it to dismantle that wild pixie nest in the attic. You know the story, that was when I started writing. Took a long time to learn to write with my mouth, and I still don't care for the taste of this phoenix quill, but at least it's something. At least I can talk, even if it's just with myself.

And today I definitely wish I could talk. Ugh, just like an ill-fated wish so long ago. Not that I expect this one to come true either, so it probably will. That seems to happen a lot when magic is involved. Went walking with Baltor today and he managed to lead to some granted wishes - and I don't think the unsuspecting people expected them to come true either. Of course, I had to illusion myself (finally able to get it on my own) as a domestic dog (blegh) since a three-tailed fox would draw too much attention from the Unknowing. (You already know what I think about magic being hidden.) No leash; when he tried a leash last time, his supply room...well, despite his arcane shielding on the door, I made sure most of his ingredients were rearranged by the next time he went in. But I had fun with the oblivious people too. He was guiding pairs of people together - 'chance encounters' as they'd put it - with what they thought were innocuous gusts of wind while I went and held up one of them by being pettable (and getting in their way, if need be) and by corralling them with tails. Turns out that prodding people with fuzzy tailtips is a lot of fun when they can't tell the tails exist.

...granted, it's also rather painful to have them stepped on. No idea what I'm going to do when I have more. After causing a few meetings, a possible relationship, and several curious water balloons in crowded streets, Baltor and I headed home. Suburbia doesn't look like a place where a wizard would live, and he looks strange dressed in a business suit with his blue tie ('essence of cobalt', apparently). It was good to be back inside with all the scents which have become so familiar, and my burrow which keeps growing, and his starred robe and pointed hat (despite how stereotypical it is).

Although he dragged me out later to help with his latest experiment. Recently, I'm not sure if I've been more help or damage control, since his work on mono-pole magnetics for Shilke continues straining the testing locker's wards and occasionally requiring me to nip Baltor to get him back to reality. (I have some doubts that my role in absorbing stray essence is good for my health, but Acuria said I was fine...I miss her and wish I could be with my kind again - no, there's 'wish' and that always works out the requested way rather than the expected way.) It was pretty good that I was there today...Baltor tried a phasing shield between him and the one-and-a-half pole substance but the repercussions of his tampering with natural laws got through. If I hadn't been able to charge through the shield while patrolling the room he might still be stuck there in serious shock, vengeful lightning exacting an electrifying toll.

Unfortunately, having taken the blow for him, now I'm stuck back here in the burrow with the fur singed off the better part of my numb forelegs. Baltor rubbed them with a sweet-smelling salve after sealing off his creation and waking me. I just hope I can move again when I wake up. (Having the fur back would be nice too.) So I guess I'll try to get some rest and that's it for now, journal.

Regards for Future Self when reading back,
- J. 'Lapse' Z.

Hello! We are the Brawl team "Fiery Hot Mixtape", and we deliver you the deck Flown SoFree SoBra Long Swords. Evident from our lengthy title, the deck's entire strategy is composed of using Flying Weapon, with a Long Sword equipped, to pump out damage, with the aide of Shard of Freedom and Shard of Bravery.

Card by Card breakdown:

Flying Weapon: Part of the 3 card combo feature in this deck. It's used to "animate" a weapon, or in other words, place your weapon on the field with an identical ATK stat, and a bit of HP. This allows the Long Sword to use Shard of Freedom to supplement it's damage. These are strategically unupgraded, as not to take away quanta produced by your Fire mark, used to fuel Shard of Bravery.

Long Sword: The heavy lifter of this deck. Without it, the deck would have no way to do damage, and fail miserably. As stated before, it's part of the 3 card combo, with Flying Weapon and Shard of Freedom.

Shard of Bravery: This card is a supplement to the 3 card combo. Shard of Bravery's effect of drawing up to 3 cards are invaluable to the deck, since it lets you cycle through your deck quicker, letting you draw your combo cards faster.

Improved Fog: Unfortunately, Shard of Bravery also draws cards for your opponent, letting them get more damage out as well. Improved Fog's 40% chance to make enemy creature's attacks fail, taking the edge off the drawback of Shard of Bravery. (Fog Hax, anyone?)

Shard of Freedom: Everybody's favorite shard. Shard of Freedom gives your Long Swords a 25% chance to deal 50% more damage, and best of all, the 25% chance stacks, giving a 100% chance to deal 50% more damage.

Strategy:

The strategy is simple, and does not differ much based on your opponent. You simply play a Long Sword, then cast Flying Weapon, to pump out more damage as you draw the set pieces. Play Shard of Freedom to supplement your Long Sword's damage, and play Shard of Bravery as needed to draw through your deck. Be mindful of decking yourself out, though!

Weaknesses:

Reverse Time: The bane of any combo deck. When Reverse Time'd, you do not receive the Flying Weapon, nullifying the effectiveness of Shard of Freedom, as it does not work on weapon-slot equipped Long Swords.

Damage dealing/delaying CC's: Long Swords don't do damage if they're delayed, frozen, or just straight up dead.

Large amounts of healing: This deck's damage is linear, as it does not have any finishers included within it. This means, that if a deck can outheal the damage you output, you will not be able to break down their defenses.

I decided to go with a mana cost of 2 because that's where pretty much all of the good, cheap attackers are.  Ideally, we'd have novae in there, but that would cause the stock market to implode, so Quantum Towers it is and may RNGesus bless your quanta!

This build has the minimum number of upgrades (Towers + cards whose cost is changed to fit the restrictions).  With the the modifications of the Lycans being upped, -1 tower, -1 Arsenic, +1 Nightmare, + 1 Vampire Dagger the deck holds a 92% winrate against AI3 and 50% against AI4.
This build, however, holds only 83% in AI3 and 30% against AI4.  But I figured I'd include an alternative with fewer upgrades to show that a a deck like this can work without so many upgrades.

Spoiler for CHALLENGES:
A Toadally Newtral Team VS Abyss Brawlers
ji412jo VS JonathanCrazyJ
Hi
I'd like to challenge abyss brawlers to this task!
Write an elements-related story with a major plot twist. Must contain 750 +-75 words.
STAKES: 8 points

Spoiler for A Toadally Newtral Team:
First brother
There are days that just look sad. You wake up to rain and thunder, look at the sky to only see dark clouds. You can't go outside, because a thunderbolt would kill you. Perhaps with some patience you'd be healthy enough to survive the storm, but you're not patient. You want to find a solution NOW! So you go outside and die instantly.
Second brother
Still a sad day. Especially since you just saw your dumbass brother die to thunder. So you decide to be smarter than him, and use patience before going outside. You still die from thunder.
Third brother
Woah, woah, wait wait. You thought patience was the key. It rains so much outside, it's starting to flood the whole field. So you think hey, you know how to swim. This flooding is no problem, it could even help you survive. So you get outside, and die instantly.
Fourth brother
Damn. Your brother didn't even have time to get to the flooding and still died. So patience won't help, flooding wont help. You don't think using both would help you either, but you're running out of options. Now you think, "Hey, what if I upgrade myself?" You're now much buffer. You go outside, get hit  by a thunderbolt, stay alive. But then the thunderstorm kills you.
Fifth brother
Now, you're probably the smartest brother of them all. Let's use everything. Upgrade yourself. Have some Patience. Go out in the flooding. Now thunderstorm and thunderbolt won't be enough to kill you. You are now the king of the world! You go outside, and get hit by 2 thunderbolts and die.
Sixth brother
Well, your whole family just died. Good news though, the storm is over. There is no more thunderbolt left to kill you. But, why was it that your family wanted to leave the house? Oh right, to get to the battlefield. And off to the battlefield you go!

First sister
There are days that just look sad. You woke up so cold. You look outside and there's snow everywhere. Great. You know it's freezing cold out there. Oh well, you still have to do this. You get outside, and as soon as you're out, you get frozen solid.
Second sister
Still a sad day. Your sister just got frozen solid right before your eyes. How would you do, what can you do. You tell yourself alright, we're good. LET'S DO THIS. You inject some adrenaline in your leg, and jump outside.
You still get frozen solid in an instant.
Third sister
Whoa whoa wait wait. You thought adrenaline was the key. You take a look at an old shard from your great, great, great grand parents and put it on your door for good luck. You're so grateful this shard exists.
You think It will help you out, so you jump right out, but how would it, its just a piece of broken glass. You are frozen solid, but you notice your younger sister thawing out. Maybe an adrenaline use wasn't such a bad idea after all.
Fourth sister
Alrighty! Let's start this party! Adrenaline in your body! We're gonna crush this, baby! You know It's freezing outside, but you're a frog! You're cold blooded! You can do th...  Just have to wait until you defrost. Wait a second, your first sister! It's coming back to life! While it takes longer, you notice you really do not need adrenaline if you can wait a bit.
Fifth Sister
Well, you are upgraded. You know that adrenaline isn't quite as effective on you as your younger sisters. Should you still use it?  You just saw your first sister thaw out, so you decide not to. Out we go!
Sixth sister
Before you go out, you realize that your family's getting quite weak. You decide to use some Healing potions to make sure this fight won't be lost. Yes. Because you keep in mind what the outcome of this is. This is a fight you can't afford to lose.

Frogs are ready to go. Tons of frogs on the field against one single abyss crawler. This should be an easy win. This would be an easy win if the brawler wasn't waiting for ages under his shard of patience. Heals won't help. Shards of gratitude won't help. And all 6 adrenaline frogs got annihilated by one single abyss crawler.

Morale of the story. Next time you issue a challenge, you shouldn't wait until the last minute to pump the adrenaline and give it your best shot.

Spoiler for Abyss Brawlers:
“It’s too well defended, sir.”

Nomos swore violently to himself. It was becoming harder and harder to find abandoned resource points, let alone ferret out new ones. The war had whittled everyone to the bare bones of rations, and the endless, ravenous maw that called itself ‘The War Effort’ was insatiable. Nomos lead a cavalry division, proud, seasoned warriors all. Their normal duties involved scavenging the battlefield for helpful equipment, tools and resources, yet all too often recently, their duty to fuel the rest of the army had taken them to far less heroic destinations. This was mainly due to their current godless enemy. It was hard to take anything away from a battle with a Ghost of the Past, be it resources, your life or your sanity.
And now this. Their scouting had revealed a small energy reservoir close to the enemy’s eastern flank. Knowing the intense skirmish that was in process on the main battlefield, Nomos had assumed this nugget of power would have been overlooked. As he joined his outriders on the crest of a nearby hill, he noted the shamed looks of fear on his men’s faces. Before them stood a strange, ornate shaft driven into the ground, bordered by a beautiful array of what looked like the shells of magnificent beasts of the sea. Nobody manned the contraptions, yet they emanated power.

Nomos cleared his parched throat.

“Would you have it said we cowered like smacked children when there is not even a single enemy before us? If I returned to our Leader, the battlefield, or to my wife having fled from a few Shells and a glorified tooth-pick I wouldn’t even be able to look my steed in the eye!”

“So we won’t.” piped up his lieutenant. “Anyway, I’d be more likely to flee from our leader, the battlefield, or your wife.”

Taking advantage of the brief mirth and the courage it inspired, Nomos yelled an incoherent battle cry, and charged.
And then stood still.
And then charged.
And then stood still.
As he finally neared their destination…
He was standing once more on the hill.

He looked down in dismay. His men were still going, yet without formation, having simply followed his lead. Nomos watched as each of them froze in their tracks every few paces. As they neared the reservoir one by one, they shimmered with strange golden energy, and reappeared on the hill, exactly where they had stood by a minute previously.
Nomos smiled. No deaths, merely a puzzle. Nomos liked puzzles.

Nomos knew he was valued by the Great Leader, and that gladdened his heart, but it was not for the Great Leader he fought.
As Nomos lay with his beautiful wife, Rhoy, on the eve of another mission, he told her with pride how he had organised the men into two waves of attack. As each wave was frozen by those strange Tortoise-shell shields, the other caught up. They reached their target simultaneously, and the strange time-warping weapon hadn’t been able to cope. By sheer organisation, he had been able to scavenge resources and relay vital information to the Great Leader.
She simply stroked his head with her huge, warm hands.

“I wish I could help as often as you do,” she sighed “Our Leader -”

“- GREAT Leader.” Nomos interrupted.

“Yes, him,” she continued, “he seems reticent to send me out this battle. I -"

“- Good. I would give anything to keep you safe.”

“Nomos. You have done well. With your information we have finally managed to pinpoint the location of that accursed Time-Staff. We have deflagrated it, and will be launching an attack early next morning. You and your riders will lead the victory charge.”

“Thank you, Great Leader.” Nomos bowed.

Rhoy burst into the tent. Her heart still thumping from bloodlust. She trod on a table and shattered it in her excitement, having still not returned to her usual size.
“Nomos! It was wonderful! The Great Leader used me, I served him so well! I kept growing larger than any of his others! He had not forsaken me, he just hadn’t thought I would survive before he destroyed that Time-warping thing you found! He…”
Rhoy realised Nomos was not in the tent. As she moved her foot, from the shattered table, she noticed a small note that had been left.

Dear Lava Destroyer Rhoy,

Your spouse, Nomos of the Gnome Rider Cavalry, died in service today. My condolences.
Cause of death: Cremation.

Signed The Great Leader.

Incidentally, Gaia's Pride (Boss, Artist, CD), Fiery-Hot Mixtape (DB/FE) and League of Shadows (Writer) should PM me their choices for R3EC.

BossThe Chaosomes: Now I do not know how card balancing works, but this seems balanced enough and a somewhat creative interpretation of "fieldwipe" using time.Abyss Brawlers: seems like a good card.
Artist/FEFiery-Hot Mixtape: The pictures of the loading screen are pretty bad and indecipherable, but from what I can see, it seems like a good loading screen.League of Shadows: I like how there's a quick link to the forums in this loading screen.
CD/WriterAbyss Brawlers: the card is good and the story's pretty good, too.Gaia's Pride: the card seems pretty good, and the story is humorous and fits the card very well.
DBLeague of Shadows: A deck that follows the rules and seems to be a good deck in the game too.Gaia's Pride: A deck that follows the rules and also is just a good deck overall.
Challenge 1A Toadally Newtral Team: I'm choosing this one because I didn't get the twist of the other one.

Community VoteRound 3by
BossLeague of Shadows: Reason being that it's the only card that doesn't have fixed quanta, it is based on the quanta you have (more thought needed on when to use and when it's most effective)***
Artist/FEGaia's Pride: Reason being it has forum news! Only bit of criticism would be if it was more adapted to darkness, since they/we won the war, so I feel it'd be traditional/more erm, suitable to theme it that way.League of Shadows: Same reason as Gaia's Pride.
CD/WriterI dislike reading some decently long stuff, so no votes here to keep things balanced.***
DBA Toadally Newtral Team: Reason being is that it's somewhat hard to build a bow with same card costs. Props to them!!Abyss Crawlers: Reason being that they used somewhat expensive cards!! Great work guys!
Challenge 1No vote here.

Boss Task: Balanced Fieldwipe cards:

Rain of Fire | Firestorm costs 7 :fire + 1 card |5 :fire + 1 card and deals 3 damage to every creature.
Plague | Improved Plague / Retrovirus costs 4 :death + 1 card |2 :death + 1 card and kills every creature after it gets to attack for some more rounds.
Personally I expect a creature to have around 4-6 hp on average. Make your own estimate before reading further but follow along using your estimate.

Now onto the Bosses's cards

Rebirth | Rebirth(upped)
Rebirth(upped) costs 7 :life + 1 card + 1 upgrade. It kills all opponent creatures but lets them deal 3 damage each as a parting blow. Compared to this Firestorm + Improved Plague(ignoring the duo) costs 7 :underworld + 2 cards + 2 upgrades and lets the creatures deal 1-3 turns worth of damage. 1 turns worth of damage is can be as low as 3 damage per creature but 1-3 turns worth tends to be higher.
Rebirth(unupped) costs 5 :life + 1 card and does the same as the upgraded version but requires the owner to play around it. Harder to judge but at less than half the cost of Rain of Fire + Plague, I am doubtful.

The Spawning | The Spawning(upped)
Hard to make a good cost comparison, however I will try:
You reduce your opponent's strength from Total Atk to 5*Number of creature
They pay 2 :underworld per creature
You increase your strength from Total Atk to 5*Number of creature but then lose 1 turn of damage.
You pay 15 :underworld + 1 card + 2 :underworld per creature

If you had 4 photons vs 2 10|5 dragons, then this would cost:
You increase from 4 to 20 attack, but lose out on 20 damage. Let's call that +9 attack.
Your enemy drops from 20 to 10 attack. Let's pretend that is similar to +10 attack on our side.
Your enemy paid 4 :underworld to your 23 :underworld + 1 card. Let's call that 17 :underworld + 1 card.
So for 17 :underworld + 1 card you gained +19 attack. So it sounds reasonable in this specifically chosen favorable case.

Gravitational Surge | Gravitational Overload {Yay! No need for (upped) tags}
A simple 1/2/3/4/5 damage firestorm that costs 5/9/13/17/21  :gravity + 1 card | 4/7/10/13/16  :gravity + 1 card. The flexibility means we should expect some inefficiency. However I think the author erred on the side of caution too much (13 :gravity|10 :gravity +1 card vs 7 :fire|5 :fire +1 card)

Drown in Sorrow | Drown in Sorrow(upped)
A -2|-2 is probably equal in value to the -0|-3 of Rain of Fire, if accounting for the flexibility, when it comes to AoE effects. The question is, how valuable is mass lobotomy? The current cost sounds about right if mass lobotomy made sense for ~4 :aether + 1 card. I think this one might be balanced or quite close too it.

Time Warp | Time Warp Again {Yay! No need for (upped) tags}
I think I can easily abuse it: Only play 1-2 cards(1-2 time factories) in the first 5-3 turns, then play this to reshuffle all their pillars(and anything they played with the quanta they gained so far). Then play your remaining opening hand pillars. However triple check my evaluation of this one, this kind of effect messes with my intuitions.

Triboelectric Shield | Triboelectric Shield(upped)
Due to the counterplay being as complex to human intuition as the counterplay to neurotoxin, we would need to skip to playtesting to reach an initial correct cost estimate. I think I would use 4|3 creatures at a time. Each would live for roughly 5|6 turns(3|2 blasts). It is hard to tell, but I think it is reasonably close for such a hard cost to estimate.

Andre, is that landscape your design? If so, it seems you have a ready submission for round 4 :P

BTW, are forums news necessary in LOGIN screen? I think it would be enough to have that kind of info in actual game screen. Maybe I'm wrong but login screen is just for login. It is what I thought at least. Now I can see I was wrong :P

Note that that is a trick that would only work once since after the first time, your opponent would start holding a few things back.  Also note that if you are employing that strategy, you are passing up the opportunity to damage the opponent while they damage you.  One last note: Your quanta is reset, your opponent's is not, so they come out at an advantage for getting cards out faster.  Now you might be able to pull off some interesting things by playing this, then playing towers to power out a creature at an empty field, but that takes a lot of effort.  So yes, with the right setup this card can be pretty strong, and that's the point.
