Most of the time, Elementals kept to their own when not in War. However, if one wished to learn the ways of all the elements, they could simply apply for the Forum; the only multi-element school in the world.
It was a place where Elementals train in the arts of others, and make friends with those from all around; a generally friendly place, with the occasional rough-and-tumble tournament and competitions.
But this is the world of Elements, and nothing can remain civil for long.
So one day a group of Time Elementals challenged some Gravity Elementals to a battle of wits, while a couple Entropy Elementals followed suit and challenged a gang of Death Elementals to a creativity contest. And then more challenges were issued, until almost all elements were participating in this brawl in some way. It got so out of hand that the rulers of the Forum weren't even able to stop it, no matter how hard they tried.
And now one cannot go to the Forum without being mixed up in the Brawl somehow. It will never be the same.

Brawl, the "sport" of warring ruffians was in full swing here at the tavern of the Windswept Lodge. It all started not too long ago, maybe a year? Yeah. Somewhere in the vicinity of a year. Fire and Time, the losers of war 5 had been spending plenty of time in the Lodge drinking their sorrows away, muttering half-curses at Aether, who had won... something. They didn't even know what they were fighting for in the first place... relics?

The doors had slammed open behind them. A quick glance backwards revealed Aether in a merry mood, no doubt due to his performance last war. A round was bought for everyone inside the tavern as Aether sauntered over to the bar and ordered a shot of Amber Moon. Aether then sat right by Fire, who shot him looks filled with loathing.

"You wouldna won if it wasn't PvP!" slurred Fire. "I'd have stomped you in anything else!" Time seemed too out of it by this point to agree.

Aether turned and smiled predatorily. "Is that so? Then why don't we have a little wager? I was never satisfied with taking your relics. I think this time I'll take... everything else. And if you win, I'll give you your relics back. Or... are you too scared to face me again?"

Fire snarled. "I won't lose to you. Not again. Never again."

Aether looked at Fire with contempt. "6 rounds in anything you happen to choose. You can bring your little friends with you. I can deal with you."

And thus was Brawl born in a tavern, forged between a drunk and a ruthless general of war. From then on, we have kept the tradition of brawling after the dust has settled from war... with whichever team that wanted to join.

The Beginning

Gargler the Ortugh dreaded the moment he and his party of Ortughs had to return to their village.Everyone else’s eyes were on him, hoping that he had brought something back. They would be disappointed.To see his people so scrawny and skeletal filled his eyes with tears. Most painful of all was the sight of his wife and children, who both resembled twigs.

Suddenly strange noice sounded over the village. Gargler’s heart began to throb faster. Was this some kind of animal he had never heard before? Can he eat him?
Gargler hoped so as he and his friends rushed to the village’s central plaza. The sight that greeted them was indeed spectacular, but it was not quite what he had expected.
Trotting into the plaza were two creatures that look like a voodoo and another a dark angel.

“Greetings from the Brawlmasters of elementsthegame,” he began to announce. “I am Chapuz, and this is my friend Naesala”

“Yes,” Gargler said. “And I am Gargler the Elite Ortugh. What brings you to our village?”

“It is to our understanding that your people’s land have suffered from a horrible famine ever since the war of elements, and we would like to address this.”

“Hold on, hold on!” Gargler said. “Brawl? Does that mean we have to get involved in war and fight again? We have had enough of this.”

“Of course not. We have competitions instead. like singing, drawing, dancing, taking amazing pictures, making videos ”

“What?? We honorable ortughs doing this? ” he said.

“And..... eating competition,” Chapuz said back with a knowing smile. “Any volunteers?”

Almost all the villagers hands' shot up and waved in the air. The brawlmasters smiled. So did Gargler who found new hope for his village.

In the days of old, the wars raged, and they claimed many lives. Then began an era of suspicion; skirmishes would break out in the street. The elements lived under the rule of one, but they still acted as opponents. And so it would continue, until the inevitable day when a new war would begin.

But the day after the fifth great war, an artist named Splatterpaint arrived in town. He was dressed very strangely – all of his clothes were colorful, and not just one color, either – they included every color of the elements, which was illegal. Needless to say, a pugnacious young Fire knight named Splatterbrains immediately challenged him to a duel. Splatterpaint theatrically accepted:

“I accept your challenge. We will duel… with art!” As he said this, he pulled two paintbrushes out of his jacket.

Splatterbrains looked very confused, but eventually he realized the goal was to put some colored stuff on a white piece of paper. Being unaccustomed to such an endeavor, he painted with only one color – red, as for his team – and his final effort was a large red square. Splatterpaint, on the other hand, painted himself – maybe a little bit handsomer, a little better-dressed, and a little more smug, but there could be no doubt as to the resemblance.

Nobody knew who had won – the Oracle was called in. In typically enlightening manner, he looked it over and said: “Today is a day to take risks!” Of course, it was now clear to everyone that Splatterpaint had won. From that day on, everyone made sure to carry a paintbrush, or a guitar, or a pen, in case someone challenged them to a duel. And so the elements brawled in peace… until the next war.

About a Hundred and one years ago...

        The 100 years of the 4th Council was the longest term a council ever had. While much chaos ensued over that time, one incredible feat was achieved: Forum Brawl was born.

                ...Head of the Council, ScaredGirl is in charge of developing what exactly will take the place between Trials and War. She did a lot of brainstorming but nothing prominent came from her thinking. Signing out of the time clock, she headed for home with her jury robe in her arms. After making a cup of tea, the very calm ScaredGirl sat in her armchair staring at a stone tablet in the candlelight. She couldn't focus; she read only a total of about 4 lines before falling alseep.
               
                                                                                                                                   
She had the craziest dream.
                                                                                                                                   
               
                Willng3 and Jenkar were in the middle of a fight. To ScaredGirl's surprise, they weren't fighting with Frogs or Flies, but a fist-to-cuffs fight was ensuing. Confused and concerned, ScaredGirl found herself out of a ring that contained the two combatants. She was amongst green women cheering for Willng3 while blue damsels on the other side of the ring were distressed at Jenkar's losing disposition. The entire scene was incredible. Jenkar was seriously wounded, but seemed to almost glide over the ground in the ring. ScaredGirl, completely involved in watching the fight, was surprised when Jenkar expertly countered Willng3 and proceeded to launch him out of the arena. Willng3 landed on top of many frogs burtling some through the air. ScaredGirl turned and saw a frog almost in her face and--
               
                    "Ah!" She exclaimed, waking up, "that's it!"
                     
                             That's just it...

Twice a year, the greatest elementalists from each nation go to War to see who will control the land. Not a soul is unaware of this grand event.

However, something happens in the towns when the elementalists leave. The scribes, the artists, the architects, and all the rest that lack the desire or skill to raise their weapons in War… join together to fight their own kind of battle.

Instead of swords and shields, they use their pens and their minds.

They dubbed this event Brawl.

Before each Brawl starts they select 2 Brawlmasters who will decide the tasks that need to be accomplished. Then each team works together to complete each of the tasks. This is usually done by giving each member a task they specialize in and allowing them the creative room to come up with a great submission.

At the end of each day, teams gather and vote on which submissions were the best. Brawls last one week, the first day is the selecting of the Brawlmasters and then the 6 rounds that follow.

The team with the most points at the end of the week is declared the winner.

When they're finished, they quickly clean everything up and prepare for the warriors to return.

Life returns to normal. To this day, the warriors remain unaware of what happens when they leave...

- Randomizer that generates semi-realistic random stats of a player

Description
The Initiate Mage has no quanta pools thus Bolts only deal their base damage.
Rare spells are those with markings on them.
Functions like spells on a stick, cost of the absorbed Spell is the same as the original.
Still much weaker than Nymphs at alchemy due to the "cooldown".
The delay makes sense since an apprentice will need much longer to cast a spell than the master.

"The universe has mystics, which could be known, but never understood. Parallel universes make an infinite variety of these worlds and the rules are always in flux. But by breaking this shell of a paradoxical world, we can find a pure land, where the materials of the other universes can be found. Like the pearl. It’s purity in its minority. It’s contains everything in this tiny landscape. It is here that the constitutive elements of the universe come from and return to in their endless flow. Never merging or annihilating, never making each other extinct. Just trying… The entities of this dimension (consequently called Elementals) live by their own rules. The differences in these rules sometimes cause confllict. And this has already made several wars and countless wanted or compulsory pacts. The wars and the change is the only inevitable fact of life here.
That change is how the first Elementals, as well as all those who came after, were formed. But not every change is beneficial. The sensitive stability of our Elemental world is shifting. There are weird anomalies appearing and disrupting the fields. We don't know how or why. These anomalies can deconstruct the known world and form something... undefined. It's just can't be sorted to any category. It's seems like a gap in the pearl. The Etherian Committee decided on an immediate investigation about this situation. These investigators are not well-experienced, but highly talented and gather information in a very efficient way. The main benefit of these mages is that they can leave Etheria. Their mission is not fully defined and their 'over productivity' makes other elementals think that they're being spied. Not without reason, either. The 'investigators' analyze the other elements' structures and consume everything unknown to them without permission from the local leaders since they already have the instructions from Etheria. The troublesome part of it that the arrogancy of Aether mixed with their mission, which can allow them to disregards the rules is not really tolerated everywhere. As we know, the leader of the Fire, Sorall, already sent some of them to the depths of the crater. And from the Darkness... they just never went back. Zerath doesn't say anything, and never let any information to come out of the Land of Darkness. They are the eyes of Etheria and they have permanent mind contact with the city. The Pact between Aether and Entropy allows them to conduct research in the allied zone. Despite this, their valuable work is really important for preventing possible disasters."

If the card discarded is a spell, it gains that spell as an ability with the cost.
If the card discarded is a permanent or creature, it gains its active ability.
If there is no ability on the discarded card, it lobotomizes target creature.
The ability costs the same as the playing cost [spell] or the ability cost [permanent/creature].

Hurr swung his shortsword, cleaving the last of Maxwell's demons in half.   Hurr grinned; he liked War.  Except the shortswords.   Why the general denied them morningstars...?  Still, better than the daggers from last War...

"Got the last one!  We won!"  Hurr surveyed the field; they were the last Crusaders standing.

Durr grunted.  "Demons?  I killed dragons, AND an abomination."

"Whatever;  that micro 'abomination' was barely butterfly sized."

"It wrecked our sanctuaries like a Pulverizer.  Killing it saved us from their Discords."
 
"Yeah, whatever," Hurr said.  "Dibs on salvage!"

* * *

"Hurr?"

"Durr?"

"That graviton thing's taking our salvage."

"Hey!  Give that back!"  Hurr snarled.  The salvager looked up, startled.  It held something small in its hand.  Durr drove his sword between the salvager's neckplates, felling it instantly.

"What's this?"  Durr picked up the trinket.  "Some sort of... sigil.  It's shifting... erratically."

"Let's see." Hurr snatched it.

"Hurr..."

"What?  I'll give it back."

"Behind you!"  Hurr turned.  Skeletons were rising from the fallen graveyard.

"We need holy light!"  Hurr screamed. 

White radiance burst from the sigil, incinerating a skeleton.

"Nice!"  Durr said.  "But that's just one."

Hurr brandished the sigil again.  Another beam of light, and another skeleton exploded.  The undead hesitated.  Hurr didn't.  Within moments, they had won... again.

"I like this thing,"  Hurr said.

"Me, too," Durr replied.

The fire elementals charged.

Hurr and Durr laughed out loud.

Brimstone and ash filled the air.  Lava Destroyers advanced.  Durr shouted, "Hey, morons, over here!"  As one, the destroyers turned, hurling firelances.  Durr raised the sigil; his armour shimmered, reflected the lances, immolated their creators.

"Owned!"  Durr shouted.

"My turn next,"  Hurr reminded him.

The earth tremored.

Shrieking graboids burrowed from the soil.

Hurr watched them come, sigil in hand.  He crouched, and then jumped ten, fifty, a hundred feet in the air, then dove straight for the earth elemental.  It was so surprised, it didn't even have a chance to scream before Hurr disemboweled it from throat to groin.  All of the graboids convulsed and collapsed.

"Like a pegasus!" Hurr cried.

The aether elemental concentrated.

"It's mindgating!"  Durr warned, "this could get nasty."

Hurr lunged.  A flying shortsword appeared, parrying Hurr's blow.  The elemental concentrated.  An erratic sigil appeared on the shortsword.

"Durr..."

"I got this."  Durr snatched the shortsword, endowed its abilities.  Another sigil appeared in Durr's hand.

"Sweet!"  Durr cackled,  "No more sharing!"

The elemental gestured at the stolen sword, magically twinned it.  A sigil appeared in the elemental's hand.  It animated the new sword.  The living sigiled weapon began to mindgate...

A sigil appeared on the sword's hilt.

The elemental touched the sword's sigil.  Eight sigiled swords swirled into existence.

The sentient swords mindgated...

"Durr!  Do something, quick!"

"I got an idea..." Durr announced.   He used the sword to mindgate the elemental.

"Durr, what are-" 

Durr twinned Hurr.  Hurr2 appeared, swords in hand.  "-you doing?"

Hurr2 mindgated, twinned Durr.

The aether elemental concentrated, fractalling Durr2.

"Hurrhurrhurrhurrhurrhurrhurrhurr..."

Durr2 fractalled Hurr2...

Facehugger/Xenomorph




Description
We chose as a theme the Facehuggers and Xenomorphs from the Alien franchise.

Some notes on the card mechanic:
-Xenomorph is not a stand alone card and can only be obtained via Facehugger
-Facehugger must deal the final point of damage killing the creature, but you can use CC to speed up the process
-Playing a Xenomorph from your hand gives you a Xenomorph with no abilities
-If a Xenomorph was generated via mitosis it will have no abilities
-When a creature with mitosis dies because of a Facehugger, it generates a Xenomorph with mitosis (as if mitosis had been cast directly on the Xenomorph)
-A facehugged Malignant cell would generate a Xenomorph with Infest, which would generate Malignant Cells
-Aflatoxin takes precedence over Facehugger, killing the creature before it can become a Xenomorph

Some ways the card can be used:
-Facehuggers + low cost/low health creatures (specially deja-vus, for its ability).
-Using facehuggers against your opponents creatures to force them to either give you a strong creature, or killing their own creatures.
Lore
The only recorded contact with the xenomorphs took place on the year 1326. That year a spaceship crashed on the Plains of Rhilo. Ghais Bilthorn, the sole survivor of the party that was sent to investigate the crash site, provided a detailed narration of the events. The following transcripts belong to recently declassified files containing recorded interviews performed during Bilthorn’s quarantine:
“ … the vessel was in good condition. We struggled to break open the doors. Once we got inside it was difficult to move. The corridors were narrow and dark. Adamon had to cast Luciferin constantly to see the path ahead. And the smell… it’s like I can still feel it in my nose…”
“… we wanted to turn back, but we lost our way on the corridors. That’s when we lost sight of… I think Milos and Kraven. But at the time we were still more curious than afraid, so we kept on…”
“… the bodies were definitely humanoid. They reminded me of Ulitharids, though they were different… And they were all… they had been wounded. On the chest…”
“… there wasn’t enough room. We could only summon small creatures and cast some spells… but the crabs were fast. They attached to our guys and to the creatures alike. There were so many of them…”
“… we spent days in that room. We managed to shut some doors and keep off the creatures. But they were relentless. Then the rest arrived. When we failed to show up they decided to call for reinforcements and get in themselves… they shouldn’t have done that…”
“… that was the first time I saw one of the big ones do something strange. I was about to kill it with a Fire bolt, when it started to contort. Then a second bug…  came out of it. I couldn’t face both so I ran. And then I remembered. Claeb had been summoning Deja Vus to fight the crabs. And the crabs attached to them… Do you get it?... the new bugs… they somehow stole our tricks…”
“… then I woke up. I couldn’t believe I was alive. Somehow the crab was dead at my side. I was alone. I didn’t know if there were other survivors, but I sure wasn’t going to wait for death in that damned room. I crawled through the air vents…”
“… I found the door. I was relieved to see that it had been shut by the guys… it meant that none of those things got out. I burnt the last of the bugs that had noticed me and escaped. There was no one outside. It was nighttime. I knew what I had to do… I gathered all the strength I had left and unleashed fire storms over that ship, one after another until I passed out… when the reinforcements found me they thought I was dead…”

Bilthorn died during quarantine by unknown causes. The state of his cell suggested that he casted Immolation upon himself.

Description
The passive skill (Injured) is detrimental to the creature. It cannot use its ability and its attack is reduced to zero.
The ability for this permanent is one-time-use and lasts while it is on the field. When removed the targeted creature loses the (Injured) skill. (If you hover over this permanent with your mouse, the targeted creature's border will glow 'yellow' indicating the connection)
The card is Gravity since that brings things to the ground where injuries often arise from.
With 5 copies of Injure and a Flooding in play, you can effectively shut down your opponent's offense. (There are a few other synergies that I'll let you figure out)
Lore
Injuries and sports go hand-in-hand. Whether it be running, jumping, twisting, turning, diving, or fighting... participants are going to get injured.
In sports, players are often injured by hitting the ground or a pole.
Creatures in the World of Elements cannot escape this same fate. For them, the structures scattered across the land can become a source of injury.
When injured, motionless they sit, no action, no aggression, just silence.

This deck functions by waiting until you have a deceptive doppelganger available to play and then having a vitamin in your hand ready to play in order to counteract the weakness of doppelganger having a high Att stat that def. This also allows the doppelganger become immune to all CC and buffing it in the process. The rabid bite allows passage on shields that would normally stop such a strong creature such as gravity shield or dimensional shield, while Dark Guarding only serves the purpose of eliminating mass CC and being a foddler.

Statis is the weapon of choice because it allows you to recover the Deployers, offers resistance to deckout, and acts as soft CC. The Graviton Spores can act as soft CC as well. As for the Sludge Collectors, they are decent hitters and allow you to use up excess aether quanta.

Deckidea: CC based Control/Rush
The main card in this deck is the Steam Beetle which can either use its ability for CC or for additional damage each turn.
Ghusting Butterfly is there for PC support and mainly used as a card for most combos in this deck.
 - Opponent has an annoying shield? Well, let him play it again. and again...
 - Accidentally returned your own permament to hand? Fair enough, more quanta for you.
 - Overuse made it useless? Better turn it into a Phoenix for more damage and CC resistance then.
 - May even cause drawlock in a deck with loads of permaments, as they are sent back to hand all the time.
Magus / Sage can either use it's ability for Lobomizing creatures or turning stuff into Phoenixes. I added both of them, because you neve know which one has the better use: more damage or cheaper control?
Sigma is either a great finisher, or can be used to kill all your fire creatures so they may nicely respawn as Phoenixes a turn later.
Vial of Half God's Blood was kept unupped, because otherwise it might screw up the quanta draw. It's important to start with at least one Pillar/Pend in this deck due to the rather heavy quanta usage of the skills in this deck.
Playing this deck should prove to be fun. 14 Quanta sources might be a bit much, but anything else you draw can greatly used to mess things up on your opponents side of the field.

This deck provides a great rush at mid-game, while providing CC and healing to survive. First you will want to play Godspeed early to gather as much as quana you can, while putting up shields. Use the shield's ability wisely to prevent the opponent's early rush. In 4-5 turns you are ready to play Stymphalia with Time Disruption, together with Vague Recollections to achieve a Fractal-like effect. If you can't draw a Vague Recollection early then Godspeed can still help to clear the massive ammount of Stymphalia in the deck.

Description
This is a deck-out deck, a type of deck that doesn't really exist in EtG, outside of big stalldecks. First play Godspeed to make both you and your opponent draw faster. Stall with some Fragments of Darkness + Despair, while playing Labyrinth to delay your opponent's creatures a bit extra.
You want to save the Corrupting Rituals for the "killing blow". If your opponent have a lot more cards than you, or you feel you want more Fragments to power your shield, play Time Disruption to get some more. When your opponent are low on cards, finish him with as many Corrupting Rituals you have, and watch him lose when he can't draw any more cards.

How the CIA voting should be changed, the polls should be removed from the top of every thread and moved down to match the card submission. Each submission should be above the ability to vote, hidden in a spoiler. So, if someone wants to vote for a card but can't seem to remember the exact name of said card then you can scroll down to said card you'd want to vote for click on the spoiler and make sure you're voting for the correct card.

To add any more would be overkill, but if a player wants to vote for a certain card by seeing how it would function in game, deckbuilders could create decks using the current cards in game to show how a said card could be used to the fullest. Say I wanted to show off Dark Gaurdian you could add a deck underneath it utlizing fractal devourers/vamps so players have an idea how it could be used and not looking at a card alone.[/td][/tr][/table]

Changing the voting for the Card Idea and Art section requires changes in two areas: changes in the actual voting itself and card submission changes.

Voting Changes
The problems of anything that has to do with voting is, in short, people. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of people who do take the time to consider what they're voting for before they vote. However, there are more who just look at the art or the mechanics and completely ignore card balance or feasibility.

Therefore, what I propose is this:
  • Tiered Voting
I believe it would be a good idea to give people with higher post count (Full member/Sr. member or above) an extra vote. These people are much more likely to be the ones who will consider how good a card actually is before voting. Of course, people will complain about their vote not being equal in value. This would honestly be remedied by 1) posting more to get to the post count requirement or 2) being recognized as an "expert." (see below) There's also the problem that people will still be as superficial even with a higher post count, but certainly the ratio would be lower than if you considered only Jr. members and recruits.

  • Expert Panel
An expert panel consisting of 4-6 experts at any time would also help remedy the problem of people who vote based on looks. These experts should consist of people who understand what a card needs to be balanced and have intimate knowledge of the current cards and how a card would fit. There would be no compulsion to vote for anything, of course, but if they do choose to vote, they should obviously give every card candidate a chance.


Submissions Changes
Voting changes are great, but if we can improve submissions themselves, then there's less chance of someone voting for something that only looks good but doesn't work out.

To this end, I propose an addition to card submissions:
  • Mechanics Comparison
In this section the card designer is asked to compare their card's mechanics to that of another card already in the game. This exercise should help people better understand card balancing.

Level 1 - Crucible

  • No art on the card image when submitting to prevent any distraction from the card's mechanics and balancing.
  • Focus should be on originality.  Card cost aside, is the concept good enough to pursue?
  • If art wants to be included in the post for an idea of how it looks or for future use, put it inside spoilers in the pre-existing art section of the table.
  • Allows Curators to re-upload card images with proper art later if the Designer becomes inactive and/or the image host goes down.



Level 2 - Forge

  • Focus should be card balance.  No need for a card to go further if it is unbalanced.
  • While most balancing is done in Level 0 - Smithy, this keeps designers from altogether forgetting about their ideas, especially if new cards do get added to the game.
  • Card art can now be added to the card images.



Level 3 - Armory

  • Focus here should be on whether people do want the ideas to be implemented to the game.
  • By now, the card should be balanced and be modified so that the text is clear and understandable as to prevent confusion regarding the text.
  • Cards require art before be added to Level 3 - Armory.

CIA Voting System Revised

- The Central Intelligence Agency needs improvements!



While hiring two new Card Curators, some new improvements for the CIA voting system might be useful. Some cards fail in the voting when they shouldn't, while "bad" designs proceed. This has caused some problems in the CIA section – and we want to stop that! The positive side is that it does not need much improvement, just some small changes.



Something which will improve the quality of crucible cards by heaps and bounds is that you cannot submit your own crucible cards. With this, I mean someone else have to submit your card in the crucible. Of course, you can ally with another one, but they'll most likely not submit bad ideas anyway.

Now that we're settled on this, let's focus on the main thing: Voting flaws.

Art is essensial for how long a card fares in the votings. A bad designed card with amazing art might be added to the armory, while a great, balanced card with bad art or even without art fails in crucible voting. To prevent this, I propose an Expert Panel. Much like in brawl, three elected forum members vote in each poll, and their points count double. They'll be unbiased in their voting, and vote based on three factors:

•   Creativity
•   Balancing
•   Theme

To add on the quality part, cards with less that three votes are instantly archived (if they do not proceed, of course). Those cards would not suddenly recieve a much greater amount of votes next voting, anyway.



I would also say something about faster updating, but those two new curators should manage that perfectly. With smoother and more accurate updates, the CIA experiences will improve for both participants, Card Curators and the spectating third party.



With these changes, I'm sure CIA will take the next step and be more enjoyable regarding quality. There is only one thing left to say:

Forum expert task - Reworking the CIA vote system.
The first thing to do was to observe the whole current voting system and identify the problems it has. This is crucial if one wants to come up with a system that works better than the current one.
After checking the weekly poll as well as some card ideas and consulting with the members of team Surf Ninjas, we came to the conclusion thatone big problem with the current voting system is that newer cards generally gain a lot of votes and older cards stay in the polls for a long time.
Another problem is that with the current voting options, it's the sheer amount of votes in a short voting period that decides which cards advance into the next level of the card idea compilation. We would like to eliminate this phenomenon as it reflects not the card quality in itself, but rather the amount of people voted in the voting period, which can be misleading. That is why we want to make the valuation of card ideas a continuous thing.
The idea is that with every card idea submitted, there is an option where everybody can give a score between 1 and 10 to the card in question. The appearance of such an option should be automatic, and coded into every topic that is submitted in the CIA section. Naturally, every member could only score an idea once.
The card curators could check the average score given to each idea as well as the number of members that voted. At regular intervals, the cards with the highest average would be moved up one level. There should be a minimum threshold of votes when a card is considered. (This is because after a certain amount, the extreme ends of the spectrum affect the average less and less, so the average score represents the quality of an idea better.)
Another interesting thing to notice is that the more experienced players can generally evaluate a card idea better. That is because playing the game (preferably at a competitive level) helps one understand the exact mechanics of a card, and helps them see how the idea would affect the metagame. This is why we would like to weight the votes of different members. We should be careful not to make the votes of new members insignificant since they could think that their votes won't make a difference.
The votes of the new members would be weighted with a multiplier of 1, the votes of Jr. and Sr. members with a multiplier of 1.2, and 1.5 for everyone above that, and finally weigh the votes of Council members with a multiplier of 2. These numbers (or something similar) shouldn't make anybody's vote much more significant than the other's, while still giving a little weight to more experienced players.
Card curators should monitor the CIA section regularly and take note of the cards with the highest averages. After the cards spend a certain amount of time at their current level, and their average has stayed consistently high, they should be considered for moving up a level. This process should be continuous, since the evaluating of the cards would be an ongoing process unlike the current system, where cards are evaluated periodically in the form of weekly polls. In the current system newer cards as well as cards whose makers can create "buzz" during the voting have some advantage.

ForumExpert: The main problem is the failure of the voting system to reveal the true quality of cards, though it's not always the fault of the voting process itself.
Oracle: And why is it not always the fault of the voting process?
ForumExpert: Look, card idea voting polls in the Crucible, Forge and Armory levels are not seperated from the rest of CI&A section, which often has a negative impact on the polls.
Oracle: And why does that happen, may I ask?
ForumExpert: It's because of the way CI&A is organized. The way topics and polls are seperated, the criteria through any crucible candidates are accepted, the card format, art, almost everything could be done quite better if you ask me.
Oracle: Pardon, but your task is to 'Rework Voting in the CI&A section in a way that would better show a card's quality.', it doesn't mention anything about reworking the CI&A section as a whole.
ForumExpert: Look, you can't talk about 'apples' without explaining what 'fruit' or 'trees' are. Furthermore, if you want to make a genetic transmutation to apples, you also have to genetically transmutate the tree that produces them. In our case, you can't make the polls better without changing the rest of CI&A.
Oracle: Still, don't you think you've gone quite off-topic here? And, if I recall correctly, you're not even an Off-Topicker!
ForumExpert: Heh, nice one. However, keep in mind that the CI&A voting system extends into domains far outside its polls. Polls are just the 'tip of the iceberg'. To 'fix' the iceberg, you can't just fix its tip; you have to dive deep into the cold artic waters and mend any problems that may lie in the darkness, if you get this metaphor.
Oracle: Why you think the whole CI&A structure is so bad and lame?
ForumExpert: Let me clarify the following; I definately do not find the current CI&A structure and voting system bad or lame. Quite the opposite, I find it very good and it clearly shows the time and effort that has been put into it by our community. However, since we can reconstruct CI&A in an even better way, why not do so?

Oracle:And how does this help in showing the quality of a card?
ForumExpert:If the above change occurs, then every weekly poll will include cards of both the same card type and element. Right now, a voter has to choose between a Life Creature and a Life Permanent at Crucible or a Life Spell and an Air Spell at Forge and Armory. This is like comparing apples with oranges. On the other hand, with my suggested modification, even inexperienced voters' life will become simpler, since you can easily compare Fire Permanents with other Fire Permanents, Air Spells with Air Spells etc.
Oracle:Nice plan, but there's a flaw in it; the amount of cards available at each poll will be reduced dramatically. Are we going to vote between just 2 or 3 cards? Where is the variety?
ForumExpert: I understand your reservations, good Oracle, however, people can visit the Archive of each Level and compare Archived cards similar to the ones in polls in order to objectively vote on them. Furthermore, since lacking cards hurts a poll so much (it does indeed do so and I'll explain why next chapter), our Card Curators may return a few Archived ideas back to their respective polls to fill the empty space.
Oracle:Searching the Archives? There's chaos in there, you know!
ForumExpert:Indeed, but we can make searching Archives topics a much easier process if we organize them by the same method we organize the active topics of each level (see the Spoiler above).
Oracle:And how will our Card Curators be able to manage such a vastly increased amount of topics and repsective polls?
ForumExpert: If their work is such a burden, we can always recruit more Card Curators (and I don't deny we need more of them).
Oracle:I understand. Do you have anything else to add?
ForumExpert: Nope, we can move on to the next chapter. (proceed to Chapter 4)


CHAPTER 4:  Changes At Weekly Poll Winners.
Oracle: You mentioned Weekly Poll Winners before. Is there really anything wrong with that topic?
ForumExpert: The way the topic works is wrong if you ask me. I personally dislike its 'Weekly' aspect; it should run according to the overall amount of cast votes. I also dislike the amount of cards being moved in and out of the Crucible, Forge and Armory levels. Finally, I dislike its decision to move cards according to their elemental category from Crucible to Forge.
Oracle: Since you have such a judgemental opinion here, I hope you have a good suggestion to make.
ForumExpert: I believe so. Clumsy and disorganised moving of cards between Levels leads into either polls full of cards or empty ones, resulting in difficulty comparing quality and objectively voting for card ideas. First of all, no poll should ever contain less than 5 cards. Also, too many cards causes a similar problem. A maximum limit of 'X' cards per poll is a must.
Oracle: And why should we put a minium limit of 5 card choices at each poll?
ForumExpert: As you mentioned in the chapter before, it would be 'boring' to choose between just 2 or 3 card ideas. Actually, it won't be just boring, it would be fatal! We need enough card variety to have a worthy comparison between them, otherwise we will either overestimate or underestimate their quality. 5 must be the bare minium.
Oracle: But, as you previously suggested, Card Curators should be able to return Archived card ideas in order to prevent empty polls...
ForumExpert: Sure. But moving a card from Archive back to the polls ought to be an extreme and not permanent solution. Polls must be kept full via the following; if cards are going to be removed from a poll and their removal reduces the cards in the poll to less than 5, then their move is postponed until replacements arrive from lower Levels.
Oracle: You've mentioned a maximum limit of 'X' cards per poll. Is this a fixed number?
ForumExpert: Yes, a fixed number indicating the maximum amount of cards per poll. Though it could vary from poll to poll (eg. each Crucible poll should have a somewhat low number, while the Armory must has a very high one) I think 15 is a pretty good number in general. This may seem as very few cards, but if you combine it with the greater variety and amount of elemental & card type topics (see chapter 3) it is more than fine.
Oracle: Can you further explain why a limit of 15 cards per poll should exist?
ForumExpert: For the same reason a minium limit of 5 has to. Human judgement loses focus when it compares high amounts of things at the same time. You possibly can't pick the most high-quality card out of 100 ones, can you? But you can find the best card out of 15.
Oracle: You said you dislike the 'Weekly' aspect of the Weekly Poll Winners. What do you mean by that?
ForumExpert: I meant I dislike the fact polls are changed at a fixed scale per week or month no matter what. That leaves some polls either empty or full of card ideas. But probably the worst of all is changing polls in which almost no one has voted! How a poll is going to show the quality of cards after a dead month of 1-2 votes per 10 cards? The activity of the community should determine when a poll ends and not a pre-set timeline. In my opinion, a total of 20 votes per card idea in a poll should be the closing signal of it.
Oracle: Aren't all these going to dramatically delay the refreshing of any CI&A poll?
ForumExpert: Sure, but I am NOT here to make the voting system faster, but to increase its quality instead!

CHAPTER 5: Changes To Card Submissions.
Oracle: You said Card Submissions need reworking too, am I right?
ForumExpert: Absolutely! I think the card aspect that causes the most bias in the voting must be removed; and that means the card art.
Oracle: Isn't  completely removing card art heretical?
ForumExpert: I don't think so and I never said 'completely'. The card art must be removed from the card (that means an 'image' made via Elements Card Image Builder must be blank and include only type, text, cost, stats and abilities), however it still can be included within card's submission topic.
Oracle: But still, this is the Card Ideas & ART section. How can you possibly remove such an important part?
ForumExpert: Let's get serious. Inexperienced members tend to be extremely biased towards cute or "awesome" card art. My task is to reveal a card's quality, not to keep it hidden behind the paper-shield of pretty art. After all, art won't lose its CI&A purpose as long as the Card Art thread remains active.
Oracle: Understood. What else would you remake?
ForumExpert: The thing that most directly shows the greatness of a card is a deck based on it. In other words, we need CI&A decks posted in the submission's table or inside spoilers. The deck must include the card idea at least once and the rest must be EtG cards. Either 'Relic' or '???' can be used to represent the submitted card idea within the deck code.
Oracle: Is just a single deck idea enough to reveal the capabilities of a card?
ForumExpert: Of course not, however we can't demand that card idea makers create 100 CI&A decks or something. But we can demand they post up to 3 different EtG cards with which their card idea has good synergies. However, the chosen synergetic EtG cards have to be different from any EtG cards used in the deck, otherwise we're just posting the same thing twice!
Oracle: Do you find all this stuff too much or too little?
ForumExpert: Good question! Truth is you can't reveal the full potential of a card idea within a piece of text, no matter how hard you try. So, it is always too little...
Oracle: Wise answer. Any other improvements in this area?
ForumExpert: Just one more. The cost of the card should also be mentioned as a generic :underworld cost which represents any elemental cost. For example, 5 :fire is equal to 5 :underworld, 4 :entropy is equal to 4 :underworld etc. with the exception of Other (:rainbow) cost which is (usually but not always) 1/2 of the in-element cost (2 :rainbow is equal to 1 :underworld, 3 :rainbow to 1.5 :underworld etc.) and Pseudo-Element cost which can't be always represented.
Oracle: And what happens if a submission won't include the above?
ForumExpert: I suppose it won't pass above Link Crucible Candidates Here!, but I'll talk about that during next chapter.

ForumExpert: Nope! However, I do think that the upgraded version of the card must be posted along with the unupgraded one. Obviously, the upped version must be artless too.

Oracle: Any of the possible synergies at candidate's submission?

CHAPTER 7:  Changes Needed At Voting.
Oracle: Ok, now for the voting process, what changes would you apply?
ForumExpert: The first change is to allow voting only by community members who have at least 15 good-quality posts in the CI&A section.
Oracle: Isn't a minium of 15 CI&A posts a harsh voting measure?
ForumExpert: Look, we have to avoid double-account voting and ensure that voters have a minium level of CI&A experience. This is vital!
Oracle: Yeah, but isn't this unfair on new EtG members?
ForumExpert: Same could be said for Weekly Tournies; but we keep the 15-posts-minium measure there 'cause it actually works!
Oracle: Seems fair. What else would you rework?
ForumExpert: I would completely rework the number of votes a person has.
Oracle: So, how many votes per person do you suggest?
ForumExpert: No limit, actually. A person can submit as many votes as the amount of cards at the poll, voting for a different card each time. Honestly, if someone thinks every idea worth his/her vote, then he/she must be able to vote for all of them.
Oracle: Isn't this going to flood polls with careless votes?
ForumExpert: Voters must have at least a slight level of responsibility and CI&A experience (hence the 15-post-minium) in order to avoid that. Also, having results hidden from public and revealing them only at Weekly Poll Winners phases can help here too.
Oracle: So, having voting results concealed is really going to prevent needless spamming?
ForumExpert: Yeah, it will. Any spamming bias generated by looking at the current results will fade off. Moreover, the voting process ought to be secret in order to ensure objectiveness. 
Oracle: Any other changes here to suggest?
ForumExpert: Not really...
Oracle: And what about the Polls? Is their structure going to be changed too?
ForumExpert: Let's talk about polls in the next chapter... (proceed to next chapter)


CHAPTER 8:  Changes Needed At Polls.
Oracle: Except for the things mentioned in chapter 7, what else must be done to the polls?
ForumExpert: First of all, we have to change the way cards are represented within the poll-related topics.
Oracle: What do you mean by 'poll-related' topics?
ForumExpert: I mean every topic inside Crucible, Forge and Armory that includes a poll about cards of a certain element and type (see chapter 3). In these topics, under the polls, the votable cards are represented with an image-hyperlink. Well, image-hyperlinks include card art and they shouldn't!
Oracle: Why such hate for card art?
ForumExpert: As I said in previous chapters, there is no greater voting bias than the optical bias an image can cause.
Oracle: So, that's all? Remove card art and everything is fine?
ForumExpert: Surely not. There are other things needing fixing as well, like adding Upgraded (artless) card image-hyperlinks at the respective poll-related topic, as well as the deck code and synnergies posted alongside the card's submission (see chapter 5).
Oracle: Any changes envisioned for the polls themselves?
ForumExpert: I definitely have! In polls, the only thing mentioned about a card is its unupped | upped name. That's a problem. You can't gather any precious info by just looking at polls, which is a shame. Furthermore, if you see in the polls 3 ideas called 'Tornado' you don't know which is which and may vote incorrectly.
Oracle: An existing problem indeed, but how will you solve it?
ForumExpert: Simply, by adding more info to the polls. Poll making forum code enables the use of elemental icons, symbols, slashes etc. So, why don't we include the card's name first and after that its cost/type/abilities/text etc.? Something much like this:

In the end, we need the following main changes:

*Remove card art from voting, cause it may act as an optical bias.*

*Remove any limit of votes, so people can vote for every card they deem worthy.*

*Votes must be invisible to public in order to ensure objectiveness.*

*Add CI&A deck images using respective card ideas to poll-related topics.*

*Add synergies with existing EtG cards to card idea topics.*

*Include card's type/cost/stats/ability next to voting dots.*

*Always divide polls between elements & card types for better comparison.*

*No more than 15 cards & no less than 5 cards per poll.*

We have a steady stream of ideas being submitted however we do not have a design that fits an ever increasing number of ideas.

I like how 3 teams used a card I've made but my team didn't  :-\

Note for Team abSTRACT: Rabid Fury does not get past dimension shield, only gets past cards that stop attacks like Sundial, not cards that prevent damage.

Artist Task Review

  :darkness AbSTRACT
Holy crap that is a LOT of menu's. I have no idea why anyone would ever need that many.. It doesn't help the design much, I feel. Random elements thrown in doesn't really feel harmonious, and this'd be the cause of a lot of extra downloading. Purely aesthetically, there's a lot of very plain boxes, with very little design elements to it. The font choice is pretty poor, and nothing really work together. Aside from the changing colors and background (which, in my opinion, is sort of gimmicky) there's just not very much to this. I would have much preferred more work went into the actual finish of the layout.

  :entropy Team Entropwny Cowboys
What. The. Shit. This is absolute madness - in a good way! It's a very well-done design; it's stylized and comes together very well as a whole, but I expect this style of menu in a cartoony arcade game. It just doesn't work very well for a game with Elements' theme. Though the AI representations are freaking brilliant.

  :fire Team Fire
Pretty solid, but there's a few things that hold it back. First of all, the background texture is blurry and it's at a weird perspective. The color also doesn't help it much. The button effects are my main gripe, though. They're simplistic, and between the high saturation and the 'shine' effect they remind me of early flash games. They cheapen the overall look, and that's sad because they layout on the buttons is solid. Remember, manual effects accomplish a lot more than layer styles!

  :time Team Expensive Clocks
Pretty true to the original in style, but it fits the game. I like the stylized, simplified layout - it's not too busy, and it has everything it needs. No major effects to distract the eye, either. Not too sure in the positioning of the lemniscate, though - the way it lines up with the top box is pretty weird. Also, it's got a different style to it than the one the game uses, with the thin lines where they cross rather than one thick line and one thin line. I really like the incorporation of the current deck.


  :water Team Surf Ninjas
It's simplistic, but perhaps overly so. I really like the clean aesthetics, but I don't feel it's doing much for user-friendliness - it's a lotta clicking that you don't really need to have. Also, the icons for the same option seem to change based on what menu you're in, and that's a pretty confusing way to lay out a GUI. I really wish you'd have taken this design and worked it into a more complete layout, even if you'd have used mockup windows for options, games, etc. It would've helped to know what the heck was going on.


I strongly recommend everyone voting based on their own taste and perception of beauty. This is merely my own.
