I can only see Shields being useful in a NovaGrabby that lacks Fog Shield/Dim Shield, but don't underestimate it there. It can turn battles around if it's out early. In NovaGrabbies without Arsenic, a Short Sword is a perfect fit.

This event card can also be used to avoid suicides, which might help some teams. I really like it :>
I'm also pleased to face both Earth and Entropy. I'd rather see Time doing better than both of those, and this is a chance to hurt their vault. It's also our chance to improve our stats against Earth x)

I assume you meant if we are to choose between the 2, but we must pick only one event card for the team, not one per deck.

And I will try my best to bring earth  team down to ear... well you get the point!

I think we should just choose the sword. I'll do a vault analysis workup on our opponents and then proceed some deck suggestions accordingly, probably tomorrow. We have great players. I see no reason not going 6-0 this round :)

I will agree with you on that. The only 2 shields though that would be useful are fire and solar ones. The second one mostly for our light aether stall. Though I see more potential on taking the sword rather than a shield. Our opponents most of the time come with deflags or steals, so they may think we packed more dims even. So I say let's surprise them with the swords. =)

The Event Card is a bit confusingly formulated, but allow me to clarify. The word "Shield" refers only to this specific card:

And the word "Sword" refers only to this specific card:

We can't even upgrade either, or else anyone could get a big boost in either stalling or rushing capability. The challenge is in fitting these two subpar cards into a deck for a reward.

Vault analysis

[All other than :entropy & :earth are mostly complete. These two elements are enigmatic]

Gen. willng3 vs UTAlan

Team :life
Vault size: 91 cards. Fielding 2 players.
Other opponents: :entropy
Expected Deck: Fractal frogs / mitosis dragons or vampires.
Deck: Devtal possibly (Sanctuaries are a bit scary but i don't think they will use light against us)
They have these decks from round 5:

Comments: Judging by their vault size, r5 salvage isn't really useful to them other than aether cards. Also since they field only 2 players, and already saved 2 decks from round 5, they don't really need conversion. So we can assume they will loot aether cards only unless they saved some earthquakes in their vault. 60 cards + 18 cards from salvage. 13 remaining cards. Now they saved 9 cards from agentflare's deck (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,33675.0.html) which we can assume :life cards since 9 fire cards being enough to put up a deck is questionable. But who knows they can still put up a firestall if they try hard.

So the possible 5 decks for them are: flying staves (life + light), fractal frogs, mono life, PU jade dragons and a weak firestall. If they improvise, they can make some kind of a mitosis-vampire deck too i guess
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

jippy99 vs hainkarga

Team :death

Vault size: 206 cards. Fielding 6 players.
Other opponents: :entropy -  (lt) :water - :earth - :time - :underworld
Expected Deck: Death & Earth EQ deck.
Deck: Fractix with pillar variety from :fire salvage against EQs, and enough power to beat down bonewalls.
This deck might include all the fire pendulums / pillars. If Evaria uses a fractal deck, she won't need them.

Comments: 156 cards from their surviving decks + 18 from salvage above, 174 cards. 32 cards hidden which might be determined from their round 4 decks. Frankly, their EQ deck is yelling "USE ME AGAINST AETHER OR UW". And high chances are we will face it. I'm meaning to use fractix deck against that, but i should test first.

Comments: Here we can see 73 cards of their vault, leaving 44 hidden which we need to extract from earlier rounds. But among the two decks above, they'd come onto us with that entropy deck. Altough an early discord is troublesome, it can be countered by a phase dragon deck. Tho judging by their :darkness deck being ineffective against their other opponents and we being weak against quanta denial, they may also bring that darkness deck. There is a possibility that they will loot them 6x momentums and face us with momentumed-air dragons deck.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gen. Higurashi vs Bonestorm

Team :entropy

Vault size: 312 cards. Fielding 7 players.
Other opponents: :earth - :air - :death - (Gen) :time - (lt) :gravity - (lt) :life - (lt) :fire
Expected Deck: Some sort of a rush deck with discords... or something. In their last 16 matches they only used stall twice, and lost one of them. They tend to use rushy decks. I think we gotta stall'em.
Deck: Higs will *sigh* this. But i suggest 34-35 card deckout deck with full set of each bonewall - DS - lightning . Or like mrpaper suggests, bonebolt mummy thingy.
Comments:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

CCCombobreaker vs lt. mrpaper

Team :earth

Vault size: 330 cards. Fielding 8 players.
Other opponents: :entropy - (lt) :time - :death - :gravity - :light - :underworld - (Gen) :darkness
Expected Deck: I don't expect an EQ deck from them, i expect a rush deck with a few PC. If i were them i'd expect a graboid from us.
Deck: As oddly as it sounds, Mono aether with full set of lightnings, some upped pillars and 6x Phase spiders (or dragons)
Comments:

Gen. majofa vs Odii Odsen

Comments: 69 cards out of 106, leaving 37 cards hidden which might be extracted from previous rounds. Those 37 cards might change their decks hugely so we gotta go and look at it. But among the two above, they will likely bring Rol/hope deck against us. Which we can face off with a graboid deck with discords and momentum. Other possibility is they bring an army of angels with assisting deflags to revenge the reason of their previous loss (our DS)

nice decks analysis, here is my thoughts on em... by the way, we seem to have got a really lucky draw for our matchups, facing the only member of air that ain't lt or General, and facing one of the few death people that ain't lt and General, avoiding time which is still really strong and avoiding to face the lt or Gen with earth and Entropy ... of course we got 2 generals, but those are from weakened teams so let's see how it goes!  Also, teams facing us might decide to go for shield in the event (especially low cards remaining elements), because 1 hit less from fract cards can be useful.

For  :life I would think they will go with a darkness duo since steal is the only way they have around our dimension shields. *** I would go with a 31-32 card deck here in case they bring adren jade staff and sanctuary to heal forever against us (unless we go fractal and deal A TON, like a possible 1hko, of damage)!  They are likely to bring the thorn carapace against us too since our dragons get poisoned anyway and it takes care of fractal pretty well, wo we need a few deflags in this deck.

For  :death Interesting fact, they seem to be almost out of poison, so purify ain't as much needed as it usually is against em.  Eq against us is a possibility yeah, bone wall deck not so much if they expect fractal (they should!) but they're dimension shield deck/fractal could be use to give us a taste of our own medecine.  Solution: have 31 cards and as many Dimension shields as em.  They also have to steals, so we need to be sure they won't use it or it won't matter much.. they won't use steal AND fractal on us so we should be able to absorb a 1 turn hit by em, but maybe steal ourselves and go devtal here?

For  :air  They can try to go at us with momentum cards, but they seem to only have 3 available, so even if they momentum 3 dragons, they can be taken care of  with 6 lightnings (should be in the deck!).  They're other possibilities is to go with steals again (so many have still access to that!) or discord (maybe a trio with momentum and bh for gravity).  I would stay away from graboids in case of the surprise wings and would try to go with lots of aether quanta to put dimension shield on and avoid BH.

for  :light, they only have 2 things that can beat us, deflags and a ROL deck, to beat deflags, we need more DS then EM, or just don't rely on that at all and let the deflags be kinda useless! To beat ROL, though, we need momentum creatures, but it's a big risk if we don't have something to take care of the lobotomizer because they will have 1 for sure to remove that special effect.  31 card deck might be an option here too if we go with the idea they will go ROL.

for  :entropy, looking at what we know only, a duo with darkness, filled with steals, lycans and discords (see rush6 deck) could do well against us.  A quasi mono with explosions would do almost the same too ( see Rastafla deck).
They also have a light stall but that is unlikely since our fractals would destroy that ( and any attemp to survive with antimatter!)
Last but not least, they could go  with a classic Discord BH duo.  My verdict here would be to go with fractals and outrush em since Higs have the advantage on upped cards with either upped bonewalls to have a chance to put it in play fast or Dimension shields and some upped quanta (they might have some surprise EQ too so it would help in 2 way).

For  :earth .... Well Hello EQ! some upped quanta is much needed for me here.  They have many dimension shield, so they could try to prevent our fratcals that way (see Sevs deck). They also have 2 stall with fire and Stone Skin for one and light and Stone skin (see MithCairon and Kuroaitou deck), it would be pretty effective since the diamond shield protect 3 damage from our creatures, so we need deflag or steal to prevent that.    Maybe a graboid deck is the best way to go for me.

I strongly expect those momentumed dragons / wyrms against our DS, because :air looted 9 cards from that deck and there are 6 momentums in that time deck. And they would feel more confident since the HP of dragons is resistant enough for lightnings and momentums nullify our shields. Fractix should take care of any case.
Edit: I edited thoughts on most of my deck suggestions on vault analysis. I keep editing it, expanding my reasoning. Please read when you have time for it.

I disagree going mono aether on my deck, the others deck all seems like they should win unless we got it all wrong!  Mono aether will loss to any of they're 2 stall and would hardly win against a graboid deck with deflags/steals or also packed with dimension shields

Sure, i don't think we need graboid deck specifically against another element (perhaps :light). So it fits to you imo. Who knows what :earth will do with their gigantic deck anyway.

Against : :light:

I expect a RoL/Hope Deck, so I create this Deck:

Hover over cards for details, click for permalink
Deck import code : [Select]
4t4 4vj 4vj 4vj 4vj 4vj 4vj 55q 590 590 61o 61o 61o 61r 61r 61r 61r 61t 61t 61t 63a 63a 63a 63a 63a 745 745 745 7dm 7t9 8pl

3 Elite Charger from our Salvage. I know they have 1 Lobotomizer, thatswhy I put a Deflag and a Steal in this deck. I'm glad, that we have a Momentum.
I want to use an upgraded Steal and Deflag because of the high costs of the PC cards. If you have some ideas to replace steal, just say. Steal costs maybe too much. 3 :darkness with 6 Nova is to much.

No matter of sword or shield. I can play both. Shield could be better against RoL/hope
